Another good day but noticeably colder at 21:00. First thing this morning it was dry, a light breeze and heavy broken cloud. I've just looked outside and the overcast is heavier now with rain on the wind from the North, a change! The glass is down with a bump to just under 1011mb. The forecast is for a bright overcast day on the whole with some sun but a high chance of a band of rain mid morning. It gives the wind as west but it's definitely NNW at the moment and will settle in that quarter for the rest of the day, increasing slightly to moderate. There will be a considerable wind chill, the forecast high is 8C and the low tonight 0C. The clear message is that we have a change so wrap up well today!
06:40. All change this morning! A stiff cold NW wind bringing enough rain in on black clouds to wet the roofs and the roads. If anything it was heavier when we got back home. I think we have to say goodbye to early Spring weather for a few days.... But it will come eventually!

Just went out to fetch the ponies in but they were having a wild moment careering around the field and I had to leave them to settle down a bit before I got halters on. I think they were sensing an approaching hail storm, which just skirted past us as I closed up the barn door. The wind has turned to the north west and the weather station tells me that it's 2C or -3.5C with the wind chill. Brrrr.

That's right Kev. It was snowing at just before 9PM when Jack had his late pee.... It's clear and cold at the moment with a frost but dry. The glass is down a touch at 1008mb. The forecast is for a dry day with scattered cloud and plenty of sun. The high is 7C and the low 0C with a moderate NW or N wind that will give a significant wind chill. It will never feel better that 2C and the frost will hang on until mid morning.
06:20.A bracing walk! Clear and dry with a sharp frost. The wind hasn't got going yet which is a good job as it is very cold out there. The outlook is for this to last another day and then start to warm up very slowly.

It was a cold dry day yesterday if you discount the occasional flake of snow and a sharp hail shower at around 16:30. It was cold and overcast first thing, it's clearing at the moment, no frost but cold enough for one to develop. The glass is up at just below 1015mb. The forecast is for a bright sunny start but deteriorating from mid morning to more cloudy but dry. The high is 8C and the low 4C. The wind is a light northerly for most of the day but starting to vary and swing about late tonight. There will be a wind chill all day but perhaps marginally warmer than yesterday. Still cold so wrap up well!
06:30. A cold dry walk under a clearing sky. I still think there could be a touch of frost. That's about it actually, nothing exciting but our weather at this time of the year is better if it is boring!

Again, brighter than forecast yesterday, at 21:00 it was calm, dry and a clearing sky. This morning first thing it was a clear sky but misty. I've just looked out the door and it's calm and dry with what looks like a tin overcast, hard to tell. The glass is steady on 1014mb. The forecast is for a mostly overcast day with an outside chance of light rain during daylight but more likely after dark, the cloud will break occasionally to give sunny spells. The high is 10C and the low 2C. The wind starts light but increases to a moderate WNW and late tonight falls light and variable again. On recent experience it could be brighter than forecast, it's slightly less cold and the outlook is for this slow warm up to continue. Quiet weather.....
06:20. Back from a quiet walk. That was overcast and it produced light rin, so light it only dampened the roads and pavements. The light wind is still cold but overall it's an improvement on yesterday. Quiet weather and it will do....

Yesterday was definitely mixed! At 21:00 last night it was murky and raining. First thing this morning it was drying up under a clear sky and significantly milder. At the moment it's still clear, a bit cooler and the high wind direction seems to be northerly. The glass is down very slightly at 1013mb. The forecast is for a bright overcast day with some sun and almost no chance of rain. The high is 10C and the low 5C. The wind is a light Northerly at the moment but will soon swing into the west and strengthen slightly but never more than a light breeze that will not chill us much. The outlook is for a gradual warming up over the next few days. This is a very quiet change and bodes well for the start of May.
06:45. A pleasant walk on a calm, milder morning. The sky is clouding over but it doesn't feel like rain. That's about it! This and better will do.... Proper Spring is just round the corner so cheer up!

Very pleasant late morning and early afternoon but it clouded over later on. At 21:00 it was calm, overcast and chilly but dry. This morning its dry and some stars peeping between the clouds. The glass is back slightly on 1010mb. The forecast is for a brighter day with a high of 12C and a low of 7C. There is a very light southerly wind all day until late tonight when it might swing into the East. The outlook is very settled and on the whole, dry and warming up nicely. May might even bring us an early proper Spring.
05:55. Early walk on a very quiet morning. Calm and mild, the 100% overcast is tending to break up, tiny patches of blue sky appearing. Good quiet weather and more of it to come. Lovely!

Yesterday was as predicted. This morning we have 100% overcast, dry and a moderate cool easterly breeze. The glass is is down at just above 1001mb. The forecast is for a bright overcast day, dry and with plenty of sun. The high will be 14C and the low 8C. The fresh easterly wind is constant all day and will give a wind chill of up to 4C even in full sun. Nothing to complain about here for the last day of April!

I was sat out in the sun on the side of a lake in Lancashire. Lovely day. It's overcast this morning but mild. The glass is back again at just below 997mb. The forecast is a re-run of yesterday, dry, bright and a high of 13C and a low of 7C with a constant moderate easterly wind. This and better will do!

It was a lovely day yesterday. At 21:00 last night it was daylight, with a clear sky and a nice crescent moon, mild and a light breeze. This morning first thing it was the same but with some scattered cloud, I've just looked out and it appears to be 100% overcast now but dry. The glass is up with a bang to 1014mb. The forecast is for another bright overcast day with very little chance of any rain, if there is a shower it will be light and we shall have plenty of sun. The high is 14C and the low 5C with a constant light east wind which will give a couple of degrees of wind chill if you are exposed to it. Another good day.
06:10. Another nice walk. This is good weather! Some clear patches coming in from the east.

Another good day yesterday! At 21:00 it was clear and a good half moon in the sky which was still light. This morning we have a mild dry morning with scattered cloud and stars peeping through. The glass is up again at 1022mb. The forecast is for a mild, dry bright day. The constant moderate wind is NE and will strengthen during the day. High of 13C and low 7C but up to 4C wind chill in the cold wind. Still a good day!
06:10. Back in from a nice walk on a fresh morning. Clear sky, the sun is coming in already and while the wind is chilly, not too bad. The ground is very dry, a bit of rain would help growth. This and better.....

Beautiful day yesterday and at 21:00 it was mild and overcast but dry. This morning it's the same. The glass is rock steady on 1022mb. The forecast is an exact rerun of yesterday, dry, sunny and a moderate NE wind that will give a wind chill of up to 4 degrees on the forecast high of 13C and low of 5C. This and better.....
06:20. A very pleasant walk with low sun coming in under the eastern clouds.
Remember the white hen in Butts? It's still foraging down there and Mark, the streetsweeper. was telling me the other day that the bloke sold his hens but on the day when he sammed them up the white hen was AWOL so it remains down there living a solitary and almost feral life. Don't worry about it, if I am any judge it's doing well, looks in good condition and if anything fatter!

Another lovely day apart from that wind chill, even so it was a Spring Day! Last night it was mild with broken cloud but the wind was moderating a bit. This morning, clear sly with scattered cloud and much less wind. The glass is up a shade at just under 2004mb. The forecast is exactly the same as yesterday, wall to wall sunshine. The high is 13C and the low 5C with slightly less wind chill, about 3C, from the moderate ENE wind. The outlook is basically no significant change.
Back at 07:00 after a very pleasant walk in full sun.Apart from the growing qualms about possible drought, it doesn't get much better than this in early May in Barlick. So don't allow all the froth of modern life to hassle you, just enjoy what we have got.

Another good day yesterday and at 21:00 it was clear, cool with a moderate east wind. This morning it was overcast first thing but still dry, at the moment it's clear and almost calm. The glass is down a bit at just below 1014mb. The forecast is for a cooler overcast day with a chance of a very light shower almost any time. On previous experience the forecast is almost always too pessimistic for Barlick's micro climate. The high will be 11C and the low 4C with a wind chill from the constant moderate NE wind. A bit more pessimistic than of late but still good settled weather for early May.
06:20. A very pleasant if cool walk. A clear sky but cloud in the east blocking the early sun. A procession of large jets coming in from the NE from the Atlantic. 300 tons doing 500mph at 35,000 feet. It's still a miracle to me!

The forecast was correct yesterday, overall a dull overcast day but no rain. Last night at 21:00 it was dry, overcast with broken cloud and a light breeze from the East. This morning first thing it was the same but clear, I've just looked outside and it is still clear but some cloud visible in the east. The glass is up slightly at 1016mb. The forecast is for a dry, brighter day with more sun. The NE wind is lighter and the wind chill only 2C. The high is 14C and the low 5C. Slightly better and still settled weather. Good for Ian's walks!
06:10. A pleasant walk on a dry fresh morning. The cloud has come in from the East but it's broken, plenty of blue patches promising sun later when it gets up. Another good morning.....
Afterthought, I picked up more than my usual quota of litter this morning, we human beings are such an untidy bunch! The cans and bottles on my walk offend me but obviously not the people who deposit them!

Yesterday, despite the wind it was almost balmy. At 21:00 last night it was dry, mild and almost calm under a clearing sky. This morning it's very similar but with a light NE wind and we have already had our walk. It looks like another good day! The glass is up at 1023mb. The forecast is for a dry day with plenty of sun. The constant moderate NE wind cools things down a bit, 11C for the high and 4C the low. Quiet settled weather.

Almost boring but another nice dry day. At 21:00 last night it was overcast bit dry and mild with a light breeze. This morning it looks like light overcast but still dry and fresh. The glass is rock steady on 1024mb. The forecast is a re-run of yesterday, dry, tending to overcast. The high is 11C and the low 3C. The difference is that the NE wind is lighter and during the day will back into the west. Never more than 1C wind chill which is an improvement. The outlook is for more of the same.
The dry weather is starting to ring alarm bells, particularly in the SE of the UK where streams are drying up and we are approaching drought conditions. This could be the big story in the next few months if the present weather continues.
06:10. Out early this morning under a thin layer of broken cloud which is clearing slowly from the east. Almost calm and not cold. There was a trickle over the dam in Butts yesterday but nothing this morning. The only flow in the beck is via leakage in the clow and the stonework. Not watermiller's weather!

Yesterday was dull until dinnertime but then full sun all afternoon. At 21:00 it was clear with a light breeze and this morning it is still clear with a brilliant full moon low in the SW. The glass is down at 1007mb. The forecast is for a day of full sun all day. The high is 15C and the low 6C tonight. The constant west wind is very light with negligible wind chill. It looks as though it's going to be a lovely day!
06:25. A lovely walk on a perfect morning! Perfectly clear sky so full sun is burning the low-lying mist in the bottoms. A heavy dew and all in all a perfect Spring morning.

Image

Valley Gardens is coming into full growth.

Image

However, there is always a small dark cloud as big as a man's hand.... No flow over Butts Dam, only the leakage through the stonework. We need rain!

Then another spoiler.... What on earth explains this sight in Butts? It's beyond me.....

Lovely Spring day yesterday. Clear and calm at 21:00 last night and first thing this morning. Same as I write and low sun is hitting the tops of the buildings. The glass is down with a bump at 994mb. The forecast is for another dry sunny day. The wind is light but has swung into the east and will be constant rising slightly to moderate during the day. High of 17C and low of 7C. A bit of a change in the air after the full moon but we are not into rain yet!

Another lovely day yesterday but at 21:00 last night there was a lot of broken overcast but dry. Overcast this morning and a very light west wind but still dry. The glass is down slightly at 990mb. The forecast is for a generally bright day but there is a chance of some rain in the early afternoon. The high is 15C and the low of 10C with a constant light east wind. Funny that, I could swear it was west first thing! Nothing dramatic and no significant rain, pity, we could do with a good soak!
06:45. A pleasant walk on a mild, dry morning. Hardly any wind and a pleasure to walk down to the butcher's. There is rain about further South and hopefully we might get a bit around mid-day. The ground is cracking, we need rain!

We got light rain from 11AM onwards but no great weight. At 21:00 last night it was overcast and calm but not raining. This morning first thing the flags were damp after a light shower but things are drying up now. The glass is up slightly at 992mb. The forecast is for showers until mid morning and then bright overcast for the rest of the day. The high is 15C and the low tonight 9C. The wind is a constant light SW breeze all day. A change in the weather but still good and for a while we have lost the East wind!
06:10. Had an early walk in very light rain under 100% overcast. Only thing of note was that the tyres are scattered round in Butts again. It's a mystery......

Light rain on and off most of the day. At 21:00 last night it was dry and calm but overcast, this morning first thing we had light rain and it's persisting. The glass started rising late yesterday and this morning is up to 1004mb. The forecast is for the rain to get heavier but cease by 06:00. After that it will be a bright day with plenty of sun. The high is 14C and the low 9C with a constant moderate SW wind all day. Looks like good timing for our morning walk!
06:45. The forecast was accurate, it was dry by 6AM and the cloud is breaking. Very little wind. The tyres are still floating round in Butts.... The rain gauge is showing an improvement, there is a gentle trickle over the cill so that's an improvement. The mill race through the gardens is running nicely as well. Things could be worse....

Warm Spring day yesterday. At 21:00 it was overcast, dry and mild. This morning first thing it was the same, just looked out and it hasn't changed. The glass is up at 1015mb. The forecast is for rain to start at about 08:00 and persist all day. The high is 14C as is the low tonight under the influence of a warm, constant moderate Southerly wind. A growy day!
06:05. A pleasant walk on a mild morning. The light southerly wind is bringing broken cloud in and there were the occasional shafts of watery sunshine. But the cloud is thickening and already we have spits of rain falling. Looks as though the ground could get a useful soak today.....
10:00. We've had our second morning trot in the rain. The forecast was right, it started in earnest around 7AM and as far as I can see hasn't stopped since. It's a good soak..... just what was needed.
