Yesterday was dull and at 21:00 the sky to the east looked very threatening indeed! But we had a west wind and it's moving away from us. First thing this morning we had broken cloud, a light breeze and it was dry. This was the same when we went out for our walk. The high cloud was bright and rosy as the rising sun caught it but there is still a heavy bank of cloud in the east and no sign of any low level sun yet. Mild, there were midges in Valley Gardens. The glass is up slightly on 1008mb. The forecast is very similar to yesterday, a cloudy day with the chance of a light shower later in the morning. The wind is a light to moderate westerly giving a high of 17C and a low of 15C tonight. The jet stream is moving south a bit and is bringing in the Atlantic lows so similar weather in the outlook. We may have seen the last of summer!

Yesterday was characterised by intermittent light showers and sunny spells. At 21:00 we had a light west wind, 1055overcast and very mild. Just as mild this morning under broken cloud. We have had a dry walk, the west wind is bringing clear spells in but of course no sign of the sun, it's too low. Worth remembering we are in late August...... The glass is steady on 1008mb. The forecast is for a heavily overcast day with light rain early morning and steadily increasing rain from noon onwards, heavy at times for the rest of the day. The constant SW wind gives a high of 18C and a low of 13C tonight. There is no doubt that the Atlantic lows are in charge now......

It was damp yesterday.... At 21:00 it was overcast, mild and a light mizzle. First thing this morning it was overcast and damp but not raining. We have light rain at the moment. The glass is down on 1003mb. The forecast is for a mixed day, mostly overcast with the chance of a shower but occasional breaks giving us a glimpse of the sun. The wind is a constant moderate SW giving us a high of 16C and a low tonight of 12C. Barlick summer!
06:00. We set out in light rain but it soon bated. It was dark and overcast, a very light wind and mild. The Butts Beck has a healthy flow on it for the first time in months. It's still dark and of course no sign of the currant bun!

Sunnier than forecast yesterday. At 21:00 it was bright and dry with a light wind but chilly. This morning it's clear and dry. The glass is up at just over 1009mb. The forecast isn't very promising, cloud comes in and after a touch of early sun we have a dull day with an expectation of light rain in the afternoon and evening. The constant moderate WSW wind will give us a high of 15C and a low of 14C tonight.
06:45. We were back after our walk. When we went out a bank of cloud in the east was blocking the sun though it was getting to the high clouds and making them rosy. By the time we got back low sun had come in but at 07:00 it was becoming patchy as increasing cloud blocks it. But it's a pleasant morning, dry and mild now the early morning dew has stopped falling.

We had light rain for much of the afternoon and evening as per the forecast. At 21:00 it was damp but not raining under an overcast sky with a light west wind. This morning first thing it was overcast but dry and light rain was just starting to fall. This is steady, very light rain now. The glass is steady on 1010mb. The forecast is for the rain to cease but the day will be uniformly overcast with occasional light rain possible but nothing heavy. The constant WSW wind will be moderate but slacking off later tonight. It will be warmer than yesterday with a high of 18C and a low of 16C. I have to report I felt the chill yesterday and went back into my vest...... Not an exciting day.
06:20. A pleasant uneventful walk on a dry and very mild morning. The SW wind is strong enough to rustle the leaves and move small branches but is very mild. Jack met a large pup and had no fear of him, they socialised very happily which is a good sign. Very sheltered as always in Butts, like a church and very little bird song.

We've just had our morning walk. Dull and whilst it isn't raining we have got what they would call on the East Coast a fret. Just moisture on the wind. I think further up the coast they call it harr.

At 21:00 last night it was 100% overcast and looking very threatening in the East. Mild though in the moderate west wind. This morning it's overcast and damp, very light rain. The glass is down a touch at 1008mb. The forecast is for drizzle or heavier rain until midday when, after a period of mist it will be overcast for the rest of the day. The constant, mainly SW wind is moderate until later tonight and we can expect 18C as a high and 13C for a low. This is mainly down to the source of the SW wind, very hot Continental Europe. If and when the jet stream re-establishes the North Atlantic weather systems expect temperatures to drop.
05:55. We have had a dark, wet walk. It is still dark now at almost 06:00, no sign of light, let alone the sun. This reinforces the forecast for an overcast wet morning......
One thing I noted this morning is that the digital temperature readout on the CH boiler in the bathroom. It is a very good indicator of the core temperature of the house. At the height of the summer heat wave it hit 29C, it has been gradually falling and this morning is on 21C. A very clear indication of where our summer is at!

Nice pic Wendy and it sums yesterday up nicely. At 21:00 it was overcast and dry, same this morning. The glass is up at just over 1014mb. The forecast is for another overcast day but brighter and dry. The constant west wind will be light and the high 18C and low 14C. Barlick summer.
06:25. Back from a muggy walk on a calm, overcast and wet morning with light rain. I went out later because it was so dark. It's still darker than usual...... Not an exciting walk.

Yesterday was dull! It was dark early. This morning is exactly the same as yesterday damp, close humid and mild with no wind so no chance of any major change. We've had our walk and this is how the weather is, boring and dull. The glass is rock steady on a shade over 1014mb. The forecast is for a drier day and slightly brighter, we might see sun later on. The wind is a constant light westerly giving a high of 20C and a low of 15C tonight. Very high humidity so close and muggy. Not a lot of change in prospect, perhaps slightly fresher in the next few days.....

Yesterday was a bit brighter. At 21:00 it was bright, a light west wind, dry and mild. First thing this morning we had a light overcast and it was calm, dry and mild, it's the same now. The glass is down a bit at 1009mb. The forecast is for another dull day with a chance of rain around midday. The constant moderate W/WSW wind gives us a high of 17C and a low of 11C. Once again, nothing exciting.
06:30. We're tending to go out a bit later to get the daylight. A very pleasant walk actually, a very light breeze, dry and the overcast is breaking up, there's a large clear patch coming in from the SW but in the East it is very heavy, dark and threatening. Things could be worse!

There was a bit more rain than forecast, showers on and off all day. At 21:00 it was clearer and dry and very mild. This morning it is clear and fresh, almost calm and dry. The glass was rising slightly yesterday but is now back a touch on 1008mb. The forecast is for a mixed day of sunny spells and overcast with a shower at almost any time. The wind is SW and soon rises to moderate giving us a high of 15C and a low of 11C. Not what you'd call high summer!
06:10. The main change since early this morning is that we now have 100% angry looking cloud moving surprisingly fast given the fact it is calm and dry at ground level. Still mild and close. I've had worse walks in late August but not what you'd call a cheerful morning.
One thing I noticed, Butts Beck is running very cloudy, no climatic reason for this, the flow isn't high. It looks like a release of something upstream.
[I've rung the pollution hotline and spoken to a nice young man on a very clear line with no wait and an 0800 number. He asked all the right questions. Quite impressed by the service which is rare these days.]

We ended a showery day with a dry spell at 21:00 last night but light rain during the night. This morning it was calm, damp but not raining under a sky heavily obscured by broken low cloud. As I write it's dry and the sky is clearing. The glass is down at 1005mb. The forecast is for a day of classic sunshine and showers. The constant moderate west wind gives a high of 13C and a low of 8C tonight. A cooler day and no wonder the CH kicked in briefly this morning!
06:30. A cooler walk and one which set the pattern for the day I think. By the time we went out at just before 06:00 heavy rain clouds were looming in the west. We ignored them and as we walked round it cleared again and we might even see a bit of sun shortly. Butts Beck is running clear today......

A cooler day yesterday with some very heavy showers and full sun in the afternoon. At 21:00 it was clear and dry and quite cool. This morning it was cool and dry with a clear sky overnight with an almost full moon, it's full tonight. We've had our walk and it was dry and cool enough to allow my breath to steam. Bit of a change. The cloud is broken and we might have a chance of some sun.
The glass is up a touch at 1007mb. The forecast is for a bright dry day with sunny spells. The wind is light to moderate and will be in the NW for much of the day but ending in the west tonight. The high will be 15C and will be down at 10C tonight. If you have anything to do outside get it done today, tomorrow is going to be quite wet from mid morning onwards.

Acceptable but cool yesterday. Clear and dry at 21:00 and clear through the night with a brilliant full moon. High thin cloud first thing this morning and cool but dry, cloud is increased slightly as I write. The glass is steady on 1007mb. The forecast is for a cloudy start with a chance of light rain and from mid-morning onwards heavy rain for the rest of the day. The wind starts as a moderate southerly but eventually settles in the west late tonight giving a high of 14C and a low of 10C. Not high summer!
06:00. A dark grey walk, not as cool as yesterday but not balmy either in the light south wind. Still dry. The only thing of note was the unusual sight of activity in the Model Garage at 06:15, most unusual....
Sign of the season, the blackberries are ripening in Butts.

I think we can all agree that yesterday's forecast was accurate! It rained all day and at 21:00 it was still raining, fine drenching rain. This morning at 3AM it was damp, broken cloud bu the full moon clearly visible but just starting to rain again, As I write we have 100% overcast and light rain. The glass is down at 997mb. The forecast is for a showery day, heavy rain at times, with sunny intervals all day. The constant moderate west wind gives us a high of 15C and a low of 10C tonight. I see it is a Bank Holiday...... Not very promising!
06:15. Full wet weather gear under very heavy overcast. Light rain with occasional heavy short showers of fine rain. Water is running over the full width of my rain gauge in Butts. Barlick is like the Village of the Damned this morning, not a soul in sight.

For the previous three days the planet has been bombarded by a major solar storm. Aurorawatch showed the index up above 200 in the early hours of Sunday morning. this level means that aurora may be seen anywhere in the UK not just in the Northern parts. I did see one picture taken at Whitby with a very good display but in the main the UK has had blanket cloud cover for most of the duration so far. The storm continues today, just had an alert that the index is at yellow, if there is a break in cloud when darkness arrives tonight it could be worth a look to the North.

Pity God drew the curtains.......
Bit damp overall yesterday but at 21:00 it was a lot clearer and dry. This morning it's dry, calm and the overcast is heavy enough to block sight of the moon. The glass has risen to a shade above 1011mb. The forecast is for a uniformly cloudy day all day. The wind is a constant light SW giving us a warmer day, high of 17C and a low of 12C. Bit of an improvement but not much!
06:05. A dry, calm walk and quite mild. The broken cloud still covers most of the sky but in the west it's clear at the moment giving full sight of the almost full moon. Despite it being mild, the CH kicked in at low temperature this morning.

I've just popped me head out and we have had a very light shower. The glass is down a touch at just over 1007mb. The outlook shows little change. There's a feel of autumn in the forecast.
06:30. When we went out it was fair and drying up so we've had a calm, dry and mild walk. Still overcast and no sign of sun but nothing to complain about. Nothing exciting to report!

Yesterday was acceptable, a bit of occasional very light mizzle but nothing to frighten the horses. At 21:00 it was overcast but clearing up and it was a clear cooler night. This morning first thing, calm, clear sky, brilliant moon and cool. Just looked out and no change as yet. The glass is up at almost 1018mb. The forecast is for a better day, full sun until noon and then starting to cloud over. The light wind is westerly and around 18:00 starts to back into the north, ends up late tonight in the east. The high is 16C and the low 9C. A bit warmer tomorrow and another bright day. I note that meteorological Autumn officially starts on Saturday. My CH boiler agrees, it has kicked in at low level.
06:05. A cool, calm walk under a clear sky with a heavy dew. That's about it really. Once more, a hint of Autumn in the air.....

End of Winter here with a hint of Spring.
Except for today when we had stormy weather and they say half of Adelaide had power outages, not my half, but the wind was so strong at one point it snapped a limb off one of my trees. It's about 4 metres long.

Maz, Margaret reported this week that they had had similar weather in Perth.
At 21:00 last night it was dry, calm and mild. This morning it is calm and dry with high very this cloud, the moon easily visible. The glass is up again but only to 1019mb. The forecast is for a rerun of yesterday, a generally sunny day with no rain. The constant light wind is mainly easterly and gives us a slightly warmer day at 18C and a low of 10C tonight.
06:50. A pleasant walk down to the butcher's under a rapidly clearing sky. When we set off the overcast was heavier that early in the morning but by the time we got back low sun was hitting the rooftops.
Midges about in Valley Gardens and two small skeins of Canada Geese heading across to their roost at Gill from Whitemoor.

Another pleasant late summer day yesterday. At 21:00 it was calm, dry and mild. First thing this morning it was cool, dry, calm and a clear sky with a brilliant moon. I've just popped me head out and it is still clear but a slight overcast, the moon has a halo. The glass is rock steady on 1018mb. The forecast is for a dry bright overcast day with not much sun. The wind will be a very light southerly and will give us a warmer day for the first day of September, a high of 19C and a low tonight of 15C. Quiet and nothing to frighten the horses!
06:30. Quiet walk on a pleasant morning with the added bonus of company at various points with my mate Brian from the back street who was doing the same walk but with a different agenda. He was telling me he has had a migraine for ten days....... I often think how lucky I am, poor bugger. Fancy having to put up with that on a regular basis. The sky is clouding over a bit but not much, could be more sun that was forecast. No midges but again, two skeins of geese with three playing catch up in a diamond formation flying very fast behind the others and chattering amongst themselves. Like yesterday, heading for the roost at Gill.

Very mild pleasant day yesterday. At 21:00 it was overcast but still mild and dry. First thing this morning we have no moon so it must be overcast, mild, dry and calm. The glass is nailed on 1018mb. The forecast is exactly the same as yesterday, bright overcast, dry and very mild. The wind is a constant southerly and the high will be 21C and the low 15C tonight. Indian summer?
06:20. Very quiet walk, one glimpse of the moon through the cloud but none since. Calm, dry and very mild, so much so that it was a waistcoat and short sleeve walk. Not many of these left I think.
