Another good day yesterday and at 21:00 it was mild, dry and 85% clear sky. This morning it's calm, dry and we have broken high overcast. The glass is down a touch at 1016mb. The forecast is for a cloudy day with a good chance of rain from 08:00 to 13:00, perhaps a glimpse of sun in the late morning. The wind rises to a moderate NE by noon, the high is 14C and the low 11C tonight. A cooler dull day but back into the 20s tomorrow and more sun for the foreseeable future.
06:30. A very pleasant walk on a calm, quiet, cloudy but dry and mild morning. Lovely run with Pepe the whippet and a meeting with Jack's old collie mates in Valley park including the one that is crippled and rides home in a pram.... No mention of thunder in the forecast but it feels close to me and I wouldn't be surprised if there were some thunder showers about later in the morning.

We had no thunder but some good growy rain which will have refreshed nature. At 21:00 last night it was dry, overcast and damp. First thing this morning we had broken overcast, a very light mild wind and it was dry, it's improved now, a very light east wind and only scattered cloud. The glass is up a touch at a shade over 1018mb. The forecast is for a bright dry day with good sunny spells. The constant ENE wind will be moderate and the high is 19C and the low 10C tonight. The wind will cool us down a bit but on the whole it will be a good day, lovely day for walkers.
06:00. A fresh walk, almost calm and cloud in the east was blocking the sun when we went out but had cleared a bit by the time we got back. Looking good, not a scorcher but a very acceptable day in prospect.

Nice day and at 21:00 we had broken could, a light east wind and it was mild and dry. This morning it's dry and we have an almost clear sky, daylight at 04:00. The glass is steady on 1017mb. The forecast is for a dry bright day, scattered clouds but good sunny intervals. The constant E wind is moderate and it will be a bit warmer, high of 21C and a low tonight of 12C. Very settled weather and no change in prospect.
06:05. Not a lot to report beyond a very pleasant walk on a calm mild morning. This and better will do!

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER

It seemed to me to be warmer than the forecast yesterday. I suspect they got the wind slightly wrong, it was a mild SE breeze rather than a cold easterly. From the weather reports we were very lucky, there has been a lot of thunder rain south of Manchester. At 21:00 it was overcast but dry and mild. First thing this morning it was the same, I've just had a shufti and it's now a uniform light overcast, mild, dry and almost calm. The glass is down a touch at a shade below 1016mb. The forecast is for the overcast to break shortly and we will have a clear, sunny day. The forecast gives a light to moderate east wind but if it follows the pattern of yesterday it could be more southerly and higher than the forecast 21C high and 12C low. Still a good outlook, everything is growing well!
06:05. Another pleasant dry walk on an overcast morning but sun breaking in as we got back home. Band on The Square is, I have no doubt, a good thing for the town and there is one more day to go. Downside for me is that there is no through access in Town Square and the amount of litter, fag ends, litter, broken glass, discarded food and spilled drink all over the town centre. The flotsam also included one falling-down drunk youth in a yellow shirt and sunglasses stumbling around in Valley Gardens. Jack barked at him, he smells drink at 100 paces! Whatever turns you on......

After another good day (we are being very lucky!) at 21:00 last night it was mild, calm and dry. This morning we have a lot more cloud but very little wind and it's dry and mild. The glass is rock steady on 1017mb. The forecast is for a dry, bright overcast day with sunny spells. The ENE wind is constant and moderate giving a high of 19C and a low of 11C. We've had our walk and it is calm at the moment and pleasant. There is no discernible change in prospect, quiet weather.

Yesterday turned out well with plenty of sun and a mild wind, our luck is holding! Last might it was calm, dry, mild and overcast, this morning it's the same. The glass is down at 1011mb. The forecast is for a bright overcast day with sunny spells until this afternoon when there is a chance of light rain. The east wind is lighter than yesterday and late tonight tends to the SE giving a high of 19C and a low of 14C. Very growy weather!
06:05. Another very pleasant walk. Listening to the forecast we are getting much better than the south. The Town Square is back to normal and I am impressed by the clean-up job in Butts and Church Street. Much better!
By the way I saw Mark yesterday plying his new trade as a canine helper with a smart van. He has his own uniform now and was busy selling his services in Wellhouse Road. I wish him well. I am impressed by the turnout!

The rain came in a bit late yesterday and was never more than light growy rain, just right. At 21:00 it was dry, overcast, calm and mild. This morning it was the same first thing and I have just looked out and it's the same, calm, dry and 100% grey overcast, no hint of the dawn in the East. The glass is steady on 1010mb. The forecast is for a dull, dry day. The constant ESE wind is dry and milder giving us 21C high and 14C low, very growy weather!
05:50. A misty, grey and very mild morning, what I would describe as 'close'. Very good growing weather.
I see the strawberry growers are forecasting a bumper harvest this year, only problem is the shortage of migrant workers to pick them....
Another thing, the new high end boutique on Church Street has given up the fight and moved out. They spent well on modernising the shop to a high standard but it was evidently not enough. I think we have enough clothes outlets in the town but still feel sorry for the failure of a brave effort.

No surprises yesterday, we are being very lucky with the weather! At 21:00 it was calm, mild and a clear sky. Same this morning first thing and I've just popped me head out, calm, mild, scattered high cloud and misty. The glass is up slightly at 1013mb. The forecast is for a bright day with sunny spells and perhaps a bit of rain around 08:00 and later tonight. Funny thing is that we are under a yellow warning for heavy rain all day.... The light wind is variable, starting in the SE and ending up late tonight in the west. High of 21C and a low of 14C. Another growy day no matter what happens and not a bad start for June! By the way, it was a full moon on Tuesday.....
06:30. A very quiet uneventful walk, mild to the point of feeling close. The sun is struggling to get through the mist in the East but losing the battle at the moment. Even so, it's a pleasant morning and definitely good growing weather... We have much to be thankful for. Now for Flaming June??

At 17:00 yesterday we had a violent thunder shower, here's what it did to the mint in the front garden, torrential rain for about 30 minutes. It was heavy enough to knock out the satellite TV signal. At 21:00 it was overcast, calm, mild and dry. Same this morning but misty as well. The glass is rock steady on 1013mb. The forecast is for heavy overcast all day, no rain in the forecast but a general yellow warning of possible showers like yesterday. The light WNW wind is constant giving a high of 16C and a low of 13C. This cooler prospect holds for the next few days.
05:55. Avery quiet walk on an overcast, misty and very mild morning. Almost 100% humidity. Everything is washed clean after that rain. Everything is green and the beck is running clear so the ground took the rain in and absorbed it. That was good rain!

The day brightened up a bit more than forecast yesterday, not flaming June but not a bad day either. At 21:00 it was cloudy, calm and dry. Same first thing this morning and I have just popped out, it's overcast, dry, no sun coming in and there is a very light NW wind. The glass is up very slightly at a shade below 1015mb. The forecast is for a bright, dry day with sunny intervals. The very light wind is mainly from the north and the high is 19C and a low of 13C. The outlook is similar but perhaps slightly warmer. Not flaming June but not a write off either.
05:50. Back from a pleasant walk on a very quiet morning, both in the weather and the state of the town. The cloud coming out of the north over Barlick is showing signs of breaking up but in the east it is still solid and blocking the sun. The birds are singing and the foliage is looking great. One thing I noticed in the Pioneer car park.... In the bad weather the grit that was put down in the car park was mainly composed of sand. The heavy rain has washed it away except where there were cars parked and the sand seems to have concentrated under them. The consequence is that every place that was occupied is marked with a layer of sane exactly the same shape as the vehicle....

Yesterday turned out nice and perhaps slightly warmer than the forecast. At 21:00 it was calm, dry, mild and overcast. Same this morning but perhaps slightly more broken. The glass is once again rock steady on 1014mb. The forecast is for a very similar day but perhaps brighter. No rain in it. The wind is very light NE and the high will be 18C and a low of 9C. Quiet weather and no change in prospect.
06:00. Another pleasant walk under 100% overcast but dry, calm and mild. The foliage on the trees in Valley Gardens has come to full growth and it is almost dark as you walk under them. No complaints, it's growy weather and will do until something better turns up!

Nothing exciting about yesterday. Dull and at times it felt close to rain but it never happened. At 21:00 it was cool, 100% overcast, a light NE wind and dry. This morning first thing it was the same, just popped out and it hasn't changed, looks just like yesterday. The glass is almost unchanged, a shade under 1015mb and rock steady. The forecast is that it will open out into a dry bright day with plenty of sun but the light to moderate NE wind will hold us back to a high of 17C and a low of 8C, a touch cooler than yesterday. we are in a spell of quiet weather and a touch warmer, we need to lose this east wind!
06:15. It was dull and overcast when we went out but with signs of a break in the cloud in the east. By the time we got back home the breaks had reached us and we were getting sun. It's a bit patchy at the moment but every sign of it improving. Cooler than yesterday but still an acceptable day!

It was a nice sunny day yesterday when the cloud burned off. At 21:00 it was calm, quite mild and dry under a cloudless sky. It is the same this morning. The glass is steady on 1014mb. The forecast is for a bright, dry overcast day. The light to moderate wind is NE and the high will be 16C and the low 10C. A rerun of yesterday but slightly less sun. Still very settled weather.
06:05. A pleasant walk on a fresh morning under an almost clear sky and with a very light NE wind. The sun is getting in at the moment but that could change. It's that time of year when we have better weather than in Perth, WA. Margaret tells me they have 100kph winds and heavy rain.

A quiet but pleasant day yesterday with no surprises. At 21:00 we had a clear sky, light NE wind and it was fresh if not cool. This morning first thing it was clear, calm, dry and fresh. By the time we went for our walk at 05:20 it was starting to cloud over. We had a dry walk but no sun coming in as yet. At the moment it's definitely dull! The glass is rock steady on 1014mb. The forecast is for some breaks in the cloud and by late morning we will have clear skies and plenty of sun, no rain in the forecast. The light NE wind is constant all day and holds the high down to 19C and the low tonight will be 10C, a touch warmer than yesterday. The outlook is for the settled weather to continue......

Another good day yesterday and at 21:00 it was almost 100% clear, just some scattered high cloud, a light NE wind and mild. It's the same this morning but slightly more high cloud. The glass is steady, just a small movement to a shade below 1015mb. The forecast is for a dry bright day with sunny spells. The constant east wind is moderate and it will be slightly cooler than yesterday at 16C with a low tonight of 10C. Not flaming June but it's quiet weather.
06:40. A fresher morning but a good walk under slowly increasing cloud cover but it's at high level. The sun is struggling to get through but it's still good weather.....

The settled weather continues.... At 21:00 last night it was overcast, dry, fresh with a light east wind. It's the same this morning. The glass is once more rock solid, dropped a shade to 1013mb. The forecast is for a bright dry day with some sunny spells. The light easterly wind is governing the temperature, 19C high and 11C low, up slightly and the outlook is for the improvement to continue. No surprises but no heat wave either!
06:00. A very pleasant quiet walk under heavy overcast and almost calm. No sun but there are suggestions of breaks in the cloud which augurs well for later. This is quiet settled weather.....

More settled dry weather yesterday and at 21:00 it was clear, calm, dry and mild. It was the same first thing this morning but by the time we went for our walk we had thick mist, you can't see more that 200 yards. Dead calm, dry and mild. For some reason someone has torn live branches out of young trees in Butts....... The gass is down a touch to just above 1011mb. The forecast is for a generally bright day with sun in the breaks in the cloud, dry except for the chance of a light shower at about teatime. The wind starts in the NE and swings to the NW but is always light giving us 20C as a high and 12C as a low. More quiet weather.....

The light rain came in in the early evening and did a lot of good, everything looks green and fresh this morning. At 21:00 it was calm, almost a clear sky and dry and mild. Same first thing this morning but no fog. By the time we had our walk, we were back before 06:00, it had clouded over but was still calm, quiet and dry. The glass is steady on 1011mb. The forecast is for a re-run of yesterday but with no rain forecast. The wind starts as a very light westerly, gradually increases to moderate but in the early evening it swings round through the North and ends up in the NE. The high is 20C and the low 11C. The outlook is for slightly cooler unsettled weather later in the week but nothing serious.

In common with many days recently, yesterday was better than the forecast and very pleasant. At 21:00 it was cool, cloudy and dry with a moderate NE wind. This morning it's calmer but still overcast. The glass is still steady and up slightly at 1012mb. The forecast is for a dry overcast day with sunny spells. The wind is light and in the NE all day until late tonight when it swings into the west. High of 17C and a low of 11C. The outlook shows very little change.
05:50. A pleasant walk on a fresh morning with a light NE wind. Dry and dull because of the overcast, no sun coming in!

Yesterday was dry but dull, at times very heavy overcast that made it almost dark. At 21:00 last night we had heavy overcast, it was dry and there was a moderate easterly wind making it feel cool. The cloud was showing signs of clearing first thing and now it is perfectly clear with early sun coming in as I write. The glass is steady on 1013mb. The forecast is for the cloud to start building again around 09:00 and after early sun it will be cloudy all day. The wind is constant, moderate and WSW giving a high of 17C and a low of 13C. This cooler cloudier trend will continue and tonight and tomorrow we may see the wind rise a bit.
05:50. A very pleasant walk, fresh, dry full sun with some heat in it and a clear sky apart from some occasional wispy high cloud. Everything is green and the brambles in Butts have a very heavy crop of buds ready to flower. If they are any indication it's going to be a good year for berries!

Not a bad day overall but a light shower late on and the wind started to rise. At 21:00 it was overcast and dry with a nasty little wind. Same first thing this morning but more wind driving the clouds over from the south west. The glass has dropped during the night to 995mb. The forecast is for a completely different day. It starts cloudy with a chance of a shower shortly and early afternoon but brightens up somewhat in the afternoon and evening. The story is the wind, a blustery strong SW until afternoon when it backs into the West and moderates slightly. The high is 15C and the low 11C. The change is due to the jet stream having woken up from its slumber and re-established a more normal pattern bringing us an Atlantic low. It's not clear yet how long this will last.
05:55. The forecast was spot on. We have walked in light rain with a blustery wind. I don't mind actually as it is a welcome change from the very settled weather (boring?) we have had lately. Noticeable how the branches on the trees were being blown about which is good for them as it introduces 'constructive stress'. Exactly like human bones, this stress encourages good maintenance of the structures and is goo for both plants and humans!
If last year was the 'Year of the Slug' this year looks to be the year of the snail, I have never seen as many and I think the Thrushes must be doing well! A good morning......
10:00. We've just had our second walk and it's wild out there! The Green is carpeted with green leaves and twigs torn out of the trees and they are getting blown about. Very easy to imagine some exposed trees being uprooted. I'm wondering what It's like up at Wendy's...... Very strong wind for this time of year and we are only getting the tail end of it. It must be bad further North.

The forecast was correct about the rain and the wind. From mid-morning it was dry but very windy and in mid afternoon the wind shifted into the west and started to abate. Very good drying day! At 21:00 it was almost calm, clear sky and a pleasant evening. This morning first thing it was the same but with some scattered cloud, same now but less cloud and higher. The glass started to rise yesterday as the wind changed direction in the afternoon, this morning it is a shade over 1008mb. The forecast is for an overcast day with an occasional light shower and some sunny spells but on the evidence of previous forecasts will almost certainly be a bit brighter and dryer than this. There will be a constant WSW moderate wind giving a high of 14C and a low of 11C, a touch cooler. The outlook is for a spell of unsettled weather but warming slightly from Sunday onwards.
06:30. A cooler morning under increasing cloud and with a significant breeze. No sun coming in. Despite this it as a good morning as long as you wear an extra skin. What struck me was how fast the green leaves carpeting the Green after the wind yesterday have dried out.

At 21:00 last night the sky was almost clear, a light west wind and dry, bit cooler but still OK. First thing this morning same light west wind and high thin cloud but dawn was showing nicely in the East at 3AM. It's the same now and a lovely rosy glow coming in under the clouds colouring everything. The glass is steady on 1008mb. The forecast is for a showery day improving slightly in the afternoon with some sun. The wind is mainly S or SW and will be moderate giving a high of 15C and a low of 10C. The outlook is for similar weather over the next few days.

Image

Lots to be said for getting up early!
06:05. Back after our walk. In the last hour the light west wind has brought in heavy cloud obscuring the dawn and bringing in light rain, not enough to wet the pavements yet. Despite this it was a pleasant walk.....
