Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER

I don't know whether we got East or West weather yesterday but it was a damp gloomy day and deteriorated to almost constant rain into the evening. At 20:00 last night it was almost calm and raining and was the same first thing this morning. I've just popped me head out the door and it is still raining. The glass is rock steady on 1006mb. The forecast is for the rain to cease around 05:00 and for the rest of the day to be dry with broken cloud giving us a glimpse of the sun. The constant west wind will soon be moderate and stay like that all day giving us a high of 12C and a low of 10C with between 2 and 3C wind chill. So a cooler, dryer, brighter day but wrap up warm!
06:25. The forecast was accurate. When we went out for our morning inspection of the town the rain had stopped. By the time we were in Valley Gardens there was clear sky coming in from the west and lots of stars visible. The wind is rising and it's a cool morning.
I noted that there is a window boarded up at what was the Yorkshire Bank... Empty building syndrome or a break-in?

Yesterday turned out quite well after a bit of mid-morning light rain, the afternoon was quite balmy and sunny. It was still relatively mild and dry at 20:00. First thing this morning it was cool, dry with a light breeze and plenty of clear sky with clearly visible stars. As so often is the case, two hours later we appear to have similar conditions but with a light overcast. The glass was rising strongly yesterday and is on 1016mb. The forecast is for a cooler, overcast dry day but with the chance of a shower in early afternoon. The constant light to moderate west wind will give us a high of 11C and a low of 5C with a wind chill of up to 2C. It's colder and wrapping up warm could be a good plan!
06:25. Dry breezy and relatively mild as we set off. Again, by the time we got to Butts there was an occasional star visible. So the cloud is breaking, a hopeful sign!

The afternoon showers were quite prolonged but it had dried up by 20:00 when we had a clear sky, light west wind and cold. This morning first thing it was chilly with a perfectly clear sky and a light breeze. It's the same now. The glass has risen to 1025mb. The forecast is for a clear bright day with no rain. The constant light west wind ill increase slightly late tonight. The high is 11C and the low 7C with a wind chill that will reach 2C at times. This and better will do! Not bad, we are almost into November.....
06:45. Back home after a dry walk on a calm morning with clear sky and heavy dew that could be described as chilly. Nowt wrong with that! Remember that the clocks go back in the early hours of Sunday morning!

Yesterday was a nice day and at 20:00 it was dry, cool with a light west wind and a very clear sky. It was the same first thing this morning but by the time we went for our walk it had clouded over. The glass rose steadily all day yesterday but during the night fell back to 1021mb. The forecast is for a dry, overcast and at times misty day. The wind is going to be quite strong, gusting to 40mph at times. This will give is a high of 12C and a low of 8C with a wind chill of at least 3C all day so wrap up warm. Remember that the clocks change just after midnight tonight.

The clocks have changed and we are on GMT again !
Yesterday was damper than forecast with light rain coming in on the strong gusty wind for most of the afternoon. Same at 20:00 when Jack had his evening pee. This morning we still have the wind but the cloud is broken and lots of stars visible at the moment. The glass is down on 1014mb. The forecast is for a dry, bright and sunny day. The wind will back into the North and moderate to a light constant breeze giving us a high of 9C and a low of 3C with a significant wind chill. The gardeners should note that tonight we will almost certainly have our first frost of the season. The outlook is for similar, cooler weather.
05:55. We were out in good time and we've had a good walk on a relatively mild morning. The sky is rapidly clearing and where you are in the wind, it's chilly. Both public clocks, on the bus shelter and in the Town Square have successfully adjusted to GMT.

Yesterday was slightly less sunny than the forecast but otherwise stuck to the script. At 20:00 we had a light NW breeze, a clearing sky and it was much colder. This morning it is calm and dry with a frost. The glass has risen to 1025mb. The forecast is for a frosty start and then a dry, bright overcast day. The wind will be light and variable but gradually establishing a gentle west or SW flow during the day. The High will be 8C and the low 6C with a slight wind chill. The outlook is for it to warm up slightly, we aren't into full blown cold weather just yet!
06:15. The early morning nip in the air has developed into our first white frost, not severe but enough to remind everyone that we have had an unseasonably warm October. There is a lot of very cold weather in the North just waiting for the opportunity to give us winter. It was a nice walk, Jack enjoyed the good scent conditions, he missed nothing!

Cold yesterday and later just a hint of mizzle in the air. At 19:00 last night it was dry and cool with a moderate west wind. This morning first thing there was just a very light sprinkle of rain, almost calm, not as cold and an overcast sky. I've just looked out and the wind is up a bit but the flags have dried and it's fair. The glass down, almost on 1017mb. The forecast is for an overcast dry day with the outside chance of a light shower early afternoon or evening. The constant SW wind will be moderate giving a high of 12C and a low of 9C with up to 4C wind chill. Last day of October, tomorrow it's November and that can be a horrible month. Let's see if it is as well behaved as October has been!
06:10. A nice walk on a breezy but not cold morning under an overcast sky, but dry. Things could be worse!

There was occasional mizzle in the air yesterday morning but on the whole it stuck to the forecast. At 19:00 last night we had a west wind, broken cloud, occasional glimpses of the moon and stars and it was dry. First thing this morning it was overcast, light wind and dry but there has been a light shower during the night. It's still like that as I write. The glass has dropped a bit to 1013mb. The forecast is for a dry day with bright overcast. The constant moderate SW wind will give us a high of 11C and a low of 6C with a wind chill of about 3C all day. A kindly first day of November!
05:55. We were out early and it's a mild, dry morning with a light West wind. The only thing of note is the fact that the flower beds in the Town Square have been cleared...... Be afraid....

Considering the time of year, yesterday was a very acceptable day. Still dry and relatively mild at 19:00 and the same this morning though there has been a very light shower during the night. As I write it is calm, overcast and very light rain. The glass is down slightly at just under 1009mb. The forecast is for a very quiet, dry day with broken cloud and some sun. The light wind is all over the place and settles later this evening in the SE. The high is 10C and the low 5C with negligible wind chill in the almost calm conditions. The outlook is for similar weather and if anything cooling slightly.
05:50. A dry walk under an overcast sky, calm and relatively mild. This and better will do nicely! (This time last year I was in my Crombie.....)

Another good day yesterday. This morning it is calm, dry and overcast. The glass is slightly down at just below 1008mb. The forecast is for a dry cool overcast day. The light to moderate SW wind will give a high of 10C and a low of 5C with a 2C wind chill for most of the day. This is good weather for November!
06:45. A pleasant walk to the butcher's on a mild, calm and dry morning. It doesn't get much better than this in November! However, listening to the weather in the North on the Shipping Forecast, there is the start of a NW flow of wind that could make us much colder.

Yesterday was, as promised, overcast but also there was some rain on the wind during the day and by 19:00 we had light rain. This morning first thing the flags were damp from a recent light shower and it is now calm but raining steadily. The glass is down with a bump to 995mb. The forecast is for steady rain until about 10:00 and then, after a dry, perhaps sunny spell, it will start raining again at nightfall. The wind is a light to moderate westerly, tending to NW at times and the high will be 9C and the low 3C. As the wind strengthens slightly the wind chill will get to 3C and perhaps 4C briefly. Looks like a bit of traditional November weather! The outlook is if anything for it to get colder.
06:00. It's a cold wet morning and we cut our walk short because we have to go out again at 7AM to pick a parcel up at the sorting office. Jack never complains about the rain but he can have two short walks instead of our usual morning inspection of the town. He is rubbed down and feeling no pain!
07:30. Second walk was a good call, Jack had a good run and it wasn't raining!

Yesterday was, to say the least, mixed weather, we had a lot of cold rain but mid-morning, some sun and quite pleasant. At 19;00 it was wind and cold rain. This morning the flags were damp first thing but it was dry with broken cloud and a full moon visible in the south. Since then it has rained, dry at the moment but we will be ready for a wet walk. The glass is up slightly at 1001mb. The forecast is for the rain to cease around 08:00 and then we will have a clear cold day. The light to moderate mainly NW wind will give us a high of 7C and a low of 1C, add in the 3C wind chill for most of the day and it looks like a chilly day with a frost tonight. Wrap up warm. The drier weather might mean a heavier fireworks attack on Jack, poor little bugger, they terrify him....
06:05. Fortune favours the brave! We have had a dry walk under broken this cloud with the full moon and stars visible (And the 'red-eye flights coming in from the west.). The forecast says a west wind but the scud of cloud across the moon gives the lie to that, it's WNW without a doubt. A tent has been erected in the Town Square but no sign if the large emitters yet..... Mark the streetsweeper is about and his usual cheerful self, all is well!

Bright dry day yesterday and a clear cold night. This morning we have a proper hard frost, the roofs are white under a mostly clear sky with a brilliant full moon. The glass is up with a bang on 1017mb. The forecast is for a dry, cold, bright overcast day. The mainly southerly airflow starts light and variable but increases slightly in late morning to moderate. The high and low are the same, 8C but the wind chill gets as high as 4C and we will never feel better than 4C. A bracing day!
06:20. Calm, dry and frosty under a clear sky with a brilliant moon. What my mother always called healthy weather! I nearly got the Crombie out of the wardrobe but after hearing the Shipping Forecast it seems we are in for a spell of wet windy weather so the Crombie can stay where it is for the time being, however, for the first time this winter I put a scarf on!
There must have been some overtime yesterday. As if by magic the large emitters have reappeared in the Town Square.

Yesterday was a bracing day but dry until later in the evening, at 20:00 we had a moderate cool breeze, heavy overcast and a light mizzle. This morning there was evidence of a light shower overnight. The glass is down on 1006mb. We had a dry walk in a moderate cold wind, overcast but not as cold as yesterday. The forecast is for a showery spell this morning but then bright overcast for the rest of the day. The moderate south wind backs into the NW and eventually settles in the west giving us a high of 10C and a low of 1C. The wind chill is 4C at first but as the wind moderates from late afternoon onwards, decreases slowly. Things could be worse, it is November, we should be grateful!

Yesterday was cold and there was mizzle in the air for most of the day. At 20:00 it was calm, cold and the sky was clearing. This clear sky gave us a frost first thing this morning. It's still calm, clear and frosty with a brilliant moon. The glass is up at almost 1017mb. The forecast for today is that it will be a sunny cold day with no rain. The constant light west wind will give us a high of 7C and a low of 6C with a 1C wind chill. This looks like a good if chilly day but wrap up warm!
06:15. A good walk. Calm, dry, clear, frosty and the air is like wine. Once again I think about those condemned to breathe in crap all day. It doesn't get much better than this in November and I am grateful!
What struck me yesterday was the appearance of giant remembrance poppies on lamp standards and signposts all over the Town centre. The rather unkind thought I had was do they save these for next year or buy new ones to support the British Legion.....?

Good day yesterday, bright and a bit chilly but everyone was smiling! At 20:00 last night it was calm, overcast and dry and the same first thing this morning with evidence of a light overnight shower. It's deteriorated a bit since then, we have a cold breeze and light mizzle. The glass is down slightly on 1013mb. The forecast is for a dry bright day after a bit of early morning light rain. The constant moderate wind varies between WNW and WSW all day, the high is 10C and the low 6C with up to 4C wind chill when the breeze tends to the north. Not bad but wrap up warm. I have brought the Crombie out, it's time for a heavier coat!
06:10. The Crombie with a padded shirt beneath was a good choice, despite the stiff breeze I felt no pain. We had a dry walk but there is rain in the air. I note that all four of the floodlights on the pedestrian island in the Pioneer Car Park are now out.

Fir the Pennines, yesterday was a good autumn day. We were 10C behind the balmy South but it was OK. At 20:00 last night it was clear and cold with a moderate breeze. First thing this morning we had a breeze and broken clod but visible stars and moon, it's the same as I write but perhaps overcast, hard to tell. The forecast is for a dry bright day with some cloud until nightfall when there could be some light rain. The constant, moderate and mainly WNW wind will give us a high of 7C and a low of 5C with up to 4C wind chill in the northerly wind. The outlook is for similar but colder weather. Wrap up warm!
06:55. We had a pleasant if bracing walk to the butcher's. The main thing that struck me as I walked back was that the sky was clear in the Est and even though we hadn't got the benefit the sun was coming in and lighting the underside of a striking cloud formation. It was a rolling billow of high cloud with a corrugated backing to it and it looked for all the world like a breaking wave. Very beautiful and distinctive.

Yesterday was wetter than the forecast predicted. Not heavy rain but we had light rain all afternoon. At 20:00 last night it was breezy, cool dry and overcast. This morning first thing it was almost calm, dry and as far as I can see, overcast. I've just looked outside and it hasn't changed. The glass didn't move a lot yesterday, it hovered up and down a bit but during the night it has fallen to 1005mb. The forecast is for a dry day with occasional sunny intervals. The constant light wind is from the west but tends to WNW occasionally giving us a high of 7C and a low of 2C with a slight wind chill. Looking at the outlook we can expect some northerly air flows and lower temperatures over the weekend.
06:10. I was caught out slightly, it was mizzling gently when we went out but the Crombie is quite capable of coping with that. A quiet walk with no surprises. I noted a while ago but forgot to mention that the defunct financial consultant's shop on Church Street is reopening on November 17th as a 'lady's boutique', whatever that is. Far removed from Tinsmith's and grocer's shop but that's the modern world for you.

Yesterday was broadly as forecast. At 20:00 last night there was a cold breeze but it was dry. This morning first thing it was dry, a light wind and broken cloud allowing a fleeting glimpse of the moon. I've just popped out and it is almost calm, cool, clear and full sight of the moon. The glass is down slightly at 1003mb. The forecast is for a dry bright day with good sun. The wind is NW light to moderate with a high of 5C and a low of -1C. The wind chill will be as much as 5C during the day in the cold wind. There will be a frost tonight under a clear sky. The Arctic wind is in play today reminding us that it is November!
06:15. A dry walk under clear skies but with a bitter wind, strong enough to nip your ears! Two things caught my attention, a pool of blood on the pavement at the corner of Newtown and Church Street, quite a large amount! The hanging baskets have gone and the Xmas trees are in place on the shop fronts but as yet unlit except for the ones on the block of shops in the old Salvation Army building below Gisburn Road School, they are all lit. If you are going to be stood at a cenotaph this morning put your thick knickers on!

Dry cold day yesterday and at 20:00 it was clear, very cold and a light NW wind. This morning it was the same and looking outside it hasn't changed. The glass is up with a bang to a shade over 1020mb. The forecast is for a bright overcast day with the outside chance of a light shower this evening. The wind starts light in the NW but changes to SW around 11:00 giving is 4C for a high and the same for the low. The wind chill will make if feel a lot colder. Nothing violent but it makes you glad to have CH!

Yesterday was bracing but dry. At 20:00 last night it was dry, almost clear and a light NW wind. This morning first thing we had a light breeze and mizzle but it was not as cold. I've just looked outside and it's the same but light rain now. The glass was falling slowly all day yesterday and this morning is on 1014mb. The forecast is for it to be dry and overcast with mist until noon when the chance of light rain increases for the rest of the day. The light to moderate W or WSW wind is constant all day and the high will be 10C and the low 2C. There will be a wind chill of up to 3C all day. The outlook is for the weather to tend to get colder and snow can't be ruled out. Unusually I have been feeling the chill a bit but rather than turn the CH up I have put my Damart vest on and am feeling the benefit. The Daily Mail is forecasting blizzards! Who knows, one of these days they might be right!
06:20. The forecast mist has turned out to be light mizzle, the cold wetting stuff! Jack is rubbed down and feeling no pain. I am feeling the benefit of my double Damart vest.

The Sun Newspaper recently said regarding the weather that we are to have a very cold Winter. There would be spells of snow and ice in December and lasting into January. These cold spells would begin in November. But these newspapers always embellish these stories about the coming bad weather. So, we must just wait and see what actually comes along. We might miss the very cold, snowy, icy, spells of weather. Let us have our Autumn first though!

We had no real rain yesterday but the flags were never dry all day, mizzle and no sun. Last night at 20:00 it was overcast with a very light breeze but relatively mild and dry. This morning it's damp but calm and not actually raining. The glass is up slightly at 1018mb. The forecast is for a very quiet day. Light overcast all day and no rain. The wind is very light all day starting W and swinging all day slowly through N and finishing WSW tonight. The high is 9C and the low 7c with hardly any wind chill.

Yesterday was as per the forecast and was good enough for drying washing on the line outside. Last night at 20:00 it was calm, overcast and dry. This morning first thing it was calm, broken overcast and a light mizzle. I have just looked outside and it looks more overcast but is dry and the flags are drying out. The glass is down at 1012mb. The forecast is for a mixed day, a spell of rain around 8 to 9AM followed by a clear sunny spell and then overcast mainly for the rest of the day. The wind starts moderate in the SW swings briefly into NW and reverts to SW later, moderating a bit. The high is 9C and the low 3C with a wind chill of as much as 4C mid morning. A funny forecast and the outlook is for dry, cooler weather into next week.
06:10. Back after a bracing walk! The wind is cool and rising and the cloud is breaking, a few stars visible now. No rain yet. On the whole it's cooler than yesterday, mainly due to the wind.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER

The forecast was accurate, rain around 9AM and sunny in the afternoon but chilly all day. Last night at 20:00 it was calm, clear and cool with a light wind. This morning first thing it was the same but no frost, I've just looked outside again and it seems to have clouded over but still dry. The glass is up on 1022mb. The forecast is for it to be a dry, bright overcast day except for perhaps a drop of rain around 20:00. The constant SW wind starts light but gradually increases all day to moderate. The high will be 7C and the low 5C with a 3 to 4 degree wind chill all day. Good day to be outside but wrap up warm!
The Shipping forecast reminds me that we are lucky, there are some very strong winds in the north. A large high pressure system to the SW is keeping that depression at bay. Scotland is getting snow on the hills.
06:40. A pleasant if cool walk, dry, a clearing sky and a very light wind. This and better will do!
