Morning David.... They are forecasting 35C in the south today. We had a very warm day yesterday but no sun so we are spared the worst. At 21:00 last night it was very cloudy but warm. This morning it's calm, very cloudy again and warm. The glass is down a bit at just below 1009mb. The forecast is for a very cloudy morning brightening up a bit this afternoon with some sunny spells but a chance of very light rain like yesterday. The wind is constant light and SW giving a high of 20C and a low of 10C. Warmer tomorrow and very warm on Thursday. Further south it will be hitting 35C this week and records could tumble.....
06:15. When we went out some early sunshine was coming in under broken cloud in the East, this was fitful and before we got back dark cloud coming in from the west had blotted it out. It's very warm and close....
One thing that has been puzzling me for a while is the fact that in Butts, there has been a line of traffic cones down the beck side of the access road past the Pigeon Club and the clinic which has been there for a week. This morning substantial concrete barriers are in place. There is evidently some concern about the stability of the wall that divides the road from Gillian's Beck and they are keeping heavy vehicles away from the edge. I've had a nosey over the wall and can see nothing obvious that flags up concern. I'm wondering whether it is something to do with the culvert under the road that carries Calf Hall Beck to its confluence with Gillians under the road. Many years ago Harold Duxbury told me that it was in bad condition and one day would be a matter of concern, he'd been in it and inspected it in his capacity as Managing Director of the Calf Hall Shed Company who owned the mill at the time.

I told you there was a lot of cloud about.... we've just had a short shower. Hardly enough to slake the dust but nevertheless welcome!

At 21:00 we had a warm evening with broken cloud. First thing this morning calm, fresh and a clear sky. The glass has risen during the night to just over 1012mb. The forecast is for a warmer, dry bright day with no rain. The wind is very light and variable, swings all over the place all day. High of 21C and a low of 14C. The forecast for tomorrow is very warm, could be the hottest day this year.....
06:10. A fresh morning with a heavy dew and thin high cloud. The sun is getting in but not at full strength. The notable thing is three way traffic lights at the junction of Gisburn Road and Skipton road due to BT laying more capacity under the pavement. Seems like a sledgehammer to crack a nut as they have ignored the fact there is an alternative footpath, the old one down the front of Osborne Terrace.

It was very pleasant yesterday, sunny, not too warm and a joy to sit out at the Café on the Square with daughter Susan, her sister in law and little Ella, 3 years old and as smart as a whip! At 21:00 last night it was calm, mild with then high cloud. First thing this morning we had the same but a uniform high overcast. It has started clearing since and looks like clearing completely. The glass is down a touch at 1011mb. The forecast is for a very hot dry day with full sun all morning and scattered cloud this afternoon. The mainly easterly wind is light and variable and the high will be 26C and the low 16C, possibly the hottest day of the year. Tomorrow is also forecast to be hot and Friday and Saturday could see some rain. It's a full moon and perhaps we are seeing a change in the weather coming.......
05:50. Enough cloud in the East to block the sun as yet. Almost calm and cool, definitely the best time of the day. Zoe lives in East Anglia and she said she was surprised to see green grass, where she lives, everything is burned brown. We are better off than some......
07:00. the cloud has thinned and the sun has come in......

So do I and it is.

I clocked 36C on the way to Tesco about 2.00 pm. I think that's a 'personal best' for England.

However later in Cambridge about 4 pm, it rained - first in ages. Not a heavy thunderstorm just plain ordinary rain. Didn't last long enough though. Cooled down to a more tolerable 33C.

I thought about you David.... Relief may be at hand as Wendy has done a rain dance for us. Just when she doesn't need it because of the bore the weather is changing with the full moon.
Yesterday was very warm but overcast in the afternoon, no rain. At 21:00 we had 25% cloud and very warm with a light east wind. This morning we have much more cloud, a light east wind and it is nice and fresh. The back door is open. The glass is down to 1006mb. The forecast is exactly the same as yesterday in that we have full sun all day until evening when it starts clouding over. No rain forecast for us but thunder rain further south. The wind is a constant light easterly until this evening when it swings into the north as cloud comes in, The high is 26C and the low 17C tonight.
There is an Atlantic low coming in to push the blocking high over Scandinavia away to the east and we can expect a change and some rain over the weekend. The jet stream has started to re-establish itself but not got up to speed yet, we may have more of this weather after a spell of cooler weather with rain.
06:30. The cloud was clearing and the sun was coming in as we set off for the butcher's. Hardly any dew and though relatively cool, it was still warmer than yesterday.
If it is unobscured by cloud the Blood Moon tonight will be eclipsed by the shadow of the earth. It rises at 21:10. Mars will also be very near the earth and visible.

A complete change today Very warm again yesterday and heavily clouded in the afternoon. Cloudy, calm and warm at 21:00. This morning there is evidence of a shower in the night, it's calm, cloudy and warm. It's the same now over an hour later. The glass is well down at 950mb. The forecast is for heavy rain in about 3 hours for a couple of hours then a cloudy morning. This afternoon we have thundery showers with hail and breaks in between, this could mean that anything is possible! The wind starts off as a light SE but then gets into the SW and rises to moderate bringing the showers in. The temperature is 10C lower than yesterday, 17C high and a 12C low. There will be more heavy rain tomorrow. Later in the week it could dry up and be warmer.
06:00. The shipping forecast gave some clues this morning, for the first time in weeks we have gales in the Atlantic and Irish Sea.
We have had our walk. Heavy cloud and not fully light yet. More wind than of late. It certainly feels like rain and as we got back home a few isolated big drops of rain are falling.
Two things grabbed me..... A very strange looking character in a black hoodie with a black bag sat on the form next to the bus shelter. He didn't look as though he was waiting for a holiday coach but that's the only reason I can think of why he was there. The next little occurrence was a bottle landing in the middle of Skipton Road near the zebra crossing and shattering. No sign of anyone and I can only think that it was thrown out of an upstairs window...... It's a funny old world. No more large raindrops but it feels imminent!

We've just been out for a walk and a bit of fish and it's a lovely sunny morning with a fresh wind. But..... there are plenty of clouds lurking in the SW where the wind is coming from! But it's a lovely fresh morning.....

The showers were less severe than forecast. At 21:00 it was not raining but the flags were wet, overcast and a wind. This morning it looks overcast but at the moment it's dry and breezy. The glass is steady on 996mb. The forecast is for rain all day slacking off this evening. The southerly wind is fresh all day giving a high of 20C and a low of 13C. Outlook is drier and warming up a bit.
06:15. Completely different walk this morning. We have 100% overcast and steady light rain, just the right sort because it has time to soak into the ground. Butts Beck attests to this, the flow is increased but not by a lot, this signals to me that the ground is managing to take most of the rainfall in and that's just what we want. So waterproof gear and Jack had an early bath and a good rub down which will do his skin good. Too much scratching in this dry weather! Things are OK......

It was Wendy what did it with the borehole!
We had lovely steady, moderate rain all day yesterday. The best sort, it will have gone into the ground and not run off. At 21:00 it was overcast and still spotting, noticeable how it was almost getting dark! This morning it's dry, calm and a mostly clear sky with a good moon. The glass fell to 990mb during the day yesterday but is back up at 1000mb this morning. The forecast is for a bright day with scattered cloud and sunny intervals, possibly some light rain this afternoon. The mainly southerly wind starts light and than rises to moderate ending up as a westerly this evening. The high is 19C and the low 12C. The outlook is for similar weather all week. More like Barlick summer.
05:40. Back from a dry walk, clear sky, heavy dew and the sun is coming in from the East. There is a full moon in the west and it's quite amazing how quickly the Green has recovered, the scorched brown patches are green now.... Lovely!

Nice Barlick summer day yesterday. No rain, sunny spells and a nice temperature. This morning it's calm and clear over Barlick but quite a lot of high cloud in the East which might hold the sun back. The glass has risen to just under 1006mb. The forecast is for a dry bright overcast day with sunny spells. The constant SW wind will be light to moderate giving a high of 19C and a low of 14C tonight. The outlook is for similar weather, dry and warming up slightly.
06:00. Calm dry and a long sleeved shirt and waistcoat walk so quite pleasant. The cloud is building from the SW and we have no sun yet but despite that it's a very acceptable morning. No great flow over the weir in Butts but that's good, it shows that the rain has soaked into the ground.

A nice day yesterday, good for humans and plants! Last night at 21:00 it was mainly overcast a light west wind and cool. This morning it seems to be the same but I noticed a brilliant moon last night. the glass is still rising, it's on 1013mb this morning. The forecast is a rerun of yesterday, bright overcast with sunny spells and no rain. The constant light to moderate SW wind gives us 19C for a high and 15C for the low tonight. Outlook is similar , dry and warming up slightly.
06:10. We went out under 100% overcast and the tail end of a rain shower which wasn't on the hymn sheet! Not a lot of rain and as we walked round it started to brighten up and some small gaps appearing in the cloud. Nothing to suggest a rainy day ahead for the first day of August.

All I can tell you about later weather yesterday is that it didn't rain. I was busy..... I never didn't go out at 21:00 because Jack wasn't with me, he was at the vets overnight. I've had my dogless walk, overcast sky, dry, light west wind and all is quiet. The glass is up slightly at 1015mb. The forecast is for a dull, dry day brightening up later perhaps. The constant moderate SW wind will give us 20C for a high and 16C for a low tonight. Outlook is for the same.....

Yesterday was a very acceptable day and warming up again in the afternoon. At 21:00 it was overcast, a light breeze, mild and dry. This morning appears to be overcast, mild and a light breeze. The glass is up slightly at just below 1018mb. The forecast is again a rerun of yesterday. An overcast day with the chance of a light shower in the early afternoon, clearing later. The constant light west wind gives a high of 19C and a low of 14C tonight. There is no real change in the outlook for the next five days. Barlick summer!

Yesterday and evening were exactly the same as the previous day. This morning we have a mixture of clear sky and light cloud with weak sun getting in under the cloud in the east. The glass is up slightly at 1019mb. The forecast is for a slightly warmer, brighter and dryer day than yesterday with no rain mentioned. The constant westerly wind is light for most of the day giving a high of 20C and a low of 12C. Slightly warmer tomorrow.

Another rerun of the previous two days but without any rain and slightly warmer. This morning it's calm clear and cool but with some cloud in the east. The glass is again up slightly, just a shade under 1020mb. The forecast is for a bright sunny day. The wind starts very light in the SE and ends up the same but SW. Very light and variable all day giving a high of 23C and a low of 14C. Looks like a good day to wash the duvet covers!
05:45. A good walk on a lovely fresh morning. We only did a short trot on the Green but Jack did all he had to do. There is very little wind and some light mottled high cloud coming in from the SW. No sun when we went out, not because of cloud in the east but a thick bank of low mist. That has started to clear now and the sun is shining. It's a nice morning.... (The duvet covers are washing.....)

Yesterday was a good drying day, my duvet covers were bone dry and warm when I brought them in. At 21:00 last night it was calm dry and overcast, a mild night. This morning first thing we had 50% cloud, dry and almost calm. When we went out for our short walk it was completely overcast and there is no sign of the sun. The glass is down with a bump to 1011mb. The forecast is for a dry, bright overcast day. The wind is a constant light westerly and we expect a high of 19C and a low of 14C tonight. The outlook is for this cooler changeable weather to continue all week, but no extremes.

Another quiet nice day yesterday with no extremes. At 21:00 the sky was almost clear, a light wind and very pleasant out. This morning was the same first thing and now it seems to be misty, bad to see because it is still dark. The glass has fallen to 1005mb. The forecast is for a rerun of yesterday. A dry, bright overcast with occasional sunny spells in the morning but more cloud later. The constant light westerly offers a high of 19C and a low tonight of 11C, a bit cooler. This cooling trend is to continue with a chance of showers on Thursday perhaps.
06:00. We've had our walk under 100% overcast. Dark enough to trigger the yard light as we went out.... It's a calm quiet morning, nowt wrong with that!

Another quiet calm day. At 21:00 the sky was mostly clear with late sun coming in from the west and another rosy sunset. First thing this morning it was dry and calm, I have just looked out, calm, dry, cool and clear except for some cloud in the east blocking the sunrise. There is a nice crescent moon. The glass is down again to 1001mb. The forecast is for a dry, bright day with good sun in the morning but a chance of light rain showers in the early afternoon. The constant light to moderate WSW wind will give us a high of 17C and a low of 10C. The outlook is for two cooler days and then a rising trend as it gets warmer over the weekend.
06:00. A cool dry walk out onto the Green. Jack did everything he should. It's calm cool and mostly clear, a pleasant if cooler morning. Listening to the Shipping forecast we are in for some changeable weather over the next few days as an Atlantic Low moves in tracking NW over Northern Ireland and the North of Scotland. This is going to cool us down and raise the chance of a shower over the next couple of days. After that we should see a bit warmer weather.

Yesterday was quiet, there was some very light rain in the early afternoon but it hardly wet the flags. Noticeably cooler. At 21:00 it was calm, cool and dry. This morning first thing it was cool and dry and we appeared to have about 50% cloud cover, I've just looked out and it is 80% clouded now, calm and cool. The glass is up at almost 1008mb. The forecast is for a very similar day today, dry mainly, only a slight chance of a light shower late morning. Otherwise bright overcast with sunny spells which get longer as the cloud decreases during the day. The constant light to moderate west wind gives us a high of 17C and a low of 11C. Tomorrow will be a cooler day with a chance of rain but after that it gradually warms up again.
06:10. We've had our short walk under a much heavier sky. Still calm and a very light shower of rain while we were out not forecast but no big surprise. Jack saw one of his mates and has had a complete evacuation. Small things but so important!

A cool but acceptable day yesterday with late sun. At 21:00 the sky was mainly clear, the moderate west wind had dropped and it was dry under late sun. First thing this morning we had heavy overcast but still dry. By 05:00 it was very dark and we had a heavy shower of rain but that had bated by the time we went out for our walk. It's cool but otherwise OK. The glass is steady on 1008mb but the Shipping Forecast is giving a much windier picture, force 11 violent storms in Northern Waters. The forecast is for rain, at times heavy, until this afternoon and then easing off into showers with perhaps some late sun. The wind is westerly and will be moderate giving a much cooler day, 14C high and 9C low tonight. Thankfully the outlook is for it to start to warm up in the next few days.

Yesterday stuck to the script, it improved in the afternoon and by 21:00 it was clear, cool, late sun and a light west wind. It was the same this morning and we have just been for a slightly later walk on a cool sunny morning with a heavy dew. Very noticeable how much lower in the sky the sun is as the days shorten. The glass is up at 1016mb. The forecast is for a brighter, warmer day with good sun but rain is forecast for later tonight. The wind is light to moderate and starts in the west but later will swing into the SE. The high is 19C and the low tonight 14C. The outlook is this changeable weather will continue with occasional showers. More like traditional Barlick summer!

We had a mainly sunny day yesterday with late light rain, it was overcast and mizzling at 21:00. First thing this morning it was overcast, calm and damp but not actually raining. I've just looked out and we now have light rain. The glass is down with a bang on 1003mb. The forecast is for the rain to continue until 09:00 and then overcast all day and perhaps light rain again from 21:00 onwards. The moderate wind starts SSW and later tonight varies but mainly southerly. The high will be 19C and the low 15C. No danger of sunburn today and the outlook is for similar weather for at least a week.
05:40. We've had our short walk. Dark, very mild, a light wind and light rain. Not an exciting morning at all. Absolutely no sign of the sun!

Yesterday lived up to the forecast, dull, very mild and mainly dry. At 21:00 it was 100% overcast, mild and dry. First thing this morning it was calm, mild and dry but just a few drops of rain starting to fall. I've just looked out and it is the same but bone dry. The glass is down again slightly on 1000mb. The forecast is for a similar day to yesterday, murky and dry until this afternoon when there is a chance of scattered showers and sunny intervals into the evening. The wind is constant light to moderate westerly giving a high of 19C and a low tonight of 14C. Nothing exciting!
06:10. We had our first full Valley Garden walk for almost a fortnight. We rook it steadily and neither of us is feeling any pain. The morning is completely overcast, calm, very mild and almost muggy. Still dark at 05:15 and still dull now,,,, no chance of any sun.
