Just checked our height above sea level and the GPS on my phone is saying 300m which is 984ft 3.04inches. That's sat at my kitchen table.

So sitting in the loft would add 16ft to make it a mountain ?

Don't mountains start at 2000ft asl? I say this because Penyghent is a mountain but Pendle is only recognised as a hill.

You might be right , I was going on where I used to visit,Leith Hill, Surrey where the 1000ft objective was attempted, i was always told so it could be a mountain, but I could have misunderstood.

"Most geologists classify a mountain as a land form that rises at least 1,000 feet (300 metres) or more above its surrounding area." (I'd have said sea level....)
Apart from the frost, the main feature of yesterday was the afternoon freezing fog. By 20:00 it was calm, dry and relatively clear with thin high cloud. This morning there is evidence of a light snow shower during the night but at the moment it's cold, dry and we have high thin overcast. The glass is up on 1006mb and still rising slowly. The forecast is for a clouded dry day with perhaps sunny spells by late morning. The constant light NW wind gives a high of 4C and a low of -3C with a -3C wind chill most of the day. The outlook is for very similar weather to this for the next week.
05:15. I'm back from my short early walk. It's calm and we have a full moon clearly visible through high broken cloud. There's a thin covering of snow but it doesn't feel to be freezing too hard. Not a soul about except for one car and a milkman.

I love the distorted view of Bleara from the security camera out front. Ive been carrying that snow on my car for 4 trips to Airedale and back! The Skoda still has 6ins on top.

Sorry you didn't share in our thaw Wendy.....
It started thawing late morning and by the time I had my afternoon walk as 15:00 there was only the occasional patch of snow left in the town. At 20:00 it was calm clear and dry. First thing this morning it was the same and we have a frost. The glass is on 1012mb and could still be rising. The forecast is for it to stay clear until about noon and then cloud over but remain dry. The light NW wind gives us a high of 1C and a low of 0C with a -2C chill all day until this evening when it becomes -3C. So it will be freezing all day. The outlook is for the weather to stay cold but dry and overcast. Looks like January weather!
05:15. I've had my early walk. Calm, clear and very cold, we have a sharp frost· Very quiet, nobody at all about, not even the Co-op workers opening up for the day.

There's been a change in the forecast and we have a yellow warning for snow and it's falling at the moment. My mind flies to Wendy immediately. I hope we don't get too much.

I've seen speculation that this winter may be 'the coldest since records began'.

Did they not keep records of 1962/63 then?

I remember it well David, I was tramping and it was hard. There was also the small matter of 1946-1947.
Yesterday's forecast gave us cloud but not snow midday. At 20:00 it had ceased so I shovelled the snow to one side in the yard and put a bit of salt down. The sky was clear and it was calm and dry. Later we had a brilliant moon lighting up a snowy world. This morning it has clouded over, the moon is looming through the cloud, it is calm and not as cold, there has been a very light shower. The glass is up slightly on 1016mb. The forecast is for a dry cloudy day with a constant light to moderate mainly NE wind that gives us a high of 3C and a low of 0C with up to a -4C wind chill. It will feel like below freezing all day and the outlook is for similar weather to this.
There is some talk about conditions being right (a blocking continental high) for a repetition of the infamous Beast from the East. Let's wait and see....
04:50. I've had a short walk, well, if I tell the truth I've walked up the back street and onto Wellhouse Street only treading where the salt has removed the snow! I know my limitations and am not taking risks. It is clearer now, the moon is behind thin broken cloud and clearly visible with just an odd star. It's calm and not really cold, I have a suspicion it's actually thawing at the moment. Be careful if you are out there!

There having a laugh, I was at primary school in 62/63 and because there were no coke deliveries the school had to be shut. Council dug a tunnel through the ginnel at the top of Lower North Avenue because the snow was up to the bedroom windows! Teachers and all the kids still tipped up but we were told to bring our sledges and a sandwich for lunch. We spent the next two weeks sledging on the hills round Barlick. Gisburn Road and St Joseph's used Loughborough. Rainhall Rd and York Street were up King Hill and Bob Preston's. We roamed round the lot to be truthful there were teachers in charge at all venues. All us kids loved it!

Didn't do us any harm missing a fortnights school. Contrast this with all kids must go back on the 4th mantra or they will be disadvantaged. Unless they live in London and surrounding tier 4 southern counties that is.
