SPRING 2012

All right I'm being optimistic but we might as well start the new site on a positive note. Today has been bright and sunny in the main with the occasional black cloud scudding across and spattering us with light rain. Glass is rising at 29.8" and we are promised frost tonight. Not bad weather for January.

By contrast, we have endured near 40 degree days for the past five days.
Can't eat, can't sleep, and can't be bothered doing anything much.
Hate living here...have even looked at real estate in cooler climates as an alternative.
Just don't know what to do with myself these past few days, though I find that putting a few inches of cold water in the bath and sitting in it fairly regularly revives the brain cells.
I don't even want to think about February, which is traditionally our hottest month!
We haven't seen a drop of rain since the week before Christmas...

BBC is showing snow, I've looked out the window and it's not.

Morning you two, I'll bet you both got the message asking if you'd had your breakfast! Kev's right, we were warmed first of frost and then snow but to me it feels like cold horrible rain! Sky very clear last night, we are told we might see the Northern Lights low on the horizon. Glass has risen to 29.9", usually a sign of impending frost in January.

Oh...I have stopped inappropriate greeting messages by setting my time zone thingy in my personal profile, Stanley. It should be asking me what I am having for evening meal shortly.

I noticed that you seem to be posting later than the time on our clock. Never mind, we'll eventually sort it all out!

PS something strange happening with the clock, my time is wrong as well! Must go and have a furtle in my profile!

Problem solved, I was on Central European Time! I think we have it right now.

Time for the early walk. It's looking cold and nasty out there, not far off sleet and snow. It's going to be a good inside day!

Can't take much more of this hot, horrible and humid weather we are having.
Here's a thought - maybe if I check out the weather forecast on another channel, it might tell me something different.
Ha!! Going a little bit troppo here I think. :(

Half an hour out in the cold rain would cure you! Just back and it's not a nice day.

Hmmm, we were on Autumn into late November and now we're on Spring in January, I take it we don't like Winter ? :D

Ha...may the snow be up to your gutters by Saturday. It is not wise to dismiss Winter.

Now that's naughty Maz, just because you are sweltering..go and read the etiquette page I'm sure you're not allowed to wish snow on people (you can tell i was the youngest eh?).

I can see I am going to run headlong into trouble with this etiquette thing.
I shall have to pop a plum in me mouth and screw me lips into a tight button shape before logging on.

( let it snow, let it snow, let it snow). :D

Stop nagging Plugs! It'll be Spring before you know it! Drimmy and cold yesterday, no Letcliffe. Got Crombie out at dinnertime. Broken cloud at the moment but no rain. Glass at just over 29.7. Could be a lot worse. Don't worry about etiquette Maz, you wish snow on us as much as you like!

Winter normally happens from the East cold winds over cold earth or the North Westerly Cold Winds over cold water . So far this year Winter has been stuck in North America and the winds have come up from a warmer south. It sometimes happens , be pleased that the Gas bill is lower and less road accidents lower insurance to come ? and old people not killed off so much. February is not unknown to be a cold month despite the longer days so we still have shiver time left.

Too right Whippy, February can be a cruel month. February fill dyke black or white. Quite mild outside, damp but no rain at the moment. Broken cloud and glass has dropped to below 29.5". Forecast is reporting icy roads in some places and giving rain and snow for later in the day.

it was light enough to let the hens out at 8.00 this morning, which means my outside jobs can get done a bit earlier. The car was coated in ice.

Just back from our early morning walk (bacon butty going down well!) and it's much colder than I thought. White frost on the grass and some cars iced up. Wendy's right, clear and light earlier this morning. Funny thiung is that the longer the days get, the more supportable the weather. Mind you they are forecasting snow for us later and it's all Maz's fault!

It is the way the weather forecasters keep saying Snow is on the way / here when they mean West Coast of Scotland or Shetland/Orkneys. While it my might be useful for residents of those areas it is hardly surprising during the winter months and a explanation ( along with the Highland Clearences ) of why there is less human population in those areas. With perhaps the exceptions of the High Pennines and Buxton area snow is more random during winter elsewhere in Great Britain , hence the unpredicitibilty of how much , and when , and what type of Snowfall may occur even in the Upper Pennines / Yorkshire Dales areas.

They mentioned Pennines above 200metres which includes Barlick. Getting colder and the odd nasty shower this afternoon.

Just talking to Doc on the phone and he mentioned there was a white-out at Prospect, heavy snow. Looked through the window and we had heavy hail and snow down here. Eased back a bit now but what a good job he did his slating repairs this morning!

Mild, bright and sunny here in the flat lands. Just about ok as I am on a week's holiday (excepting the 31st when I have to go in). Looking forward to getting stuff done. Local forecast shows Monday with a chance of snow.

Colder further east, but no snow yet.
