It was a bit dodgy till dinnertime but then cleared up with good sunny spells. Cool and overcast this morning with what look like shower clouds blowing in on the east wind but dry up to press. Glass has fallen back a touch to just over 29.7". Not exciting but no complaints so far!
Later after a short walk in a cold blustery east wind with heavy drops of rain blowing on it, gradually getting heavier. Not a nice morning but hopefully the wind will blow the shower through quickly.

It didn't! A cold wet day that encouraged keeping warm and watching snooker! We had a full Valley Gardens walk at dinnertime but both got wet and cold. Glass steady on 29.6" this morning. Dry at the moment but still a cold blustery wind. Bracing!

Lousy day yesterday, my PV panels made more electric by 9.00 today than they did all day yesterday. It was cold, wet, windy and miserable. Its seven degrees Celsius warmer now than it got to yesterday.

Same here Moh, beautiful sunny day. I watched the shock-horror pics on the news of floods in Tiz country and reflected that there was much to be said for living in the only drought free and sunny part of the country. Glass is upo this morning at almost 30", it's dry outside with a brisk breeze from the SE and much warmer. Could be another nice spring day! Pluggy's panels could be on overtime again.
PS. May Day today, held by many to be the start of summer.....

Yes, Tiz country, from our upstairs windows, is currently a great expanse of muddy water punctuated only by pollarded willows and the odd small hill. Fortunately we are on an odd small hill and it's joined to other higher ground! For centuries the drainage of the Somerset Levels has been carefully controlled by the Drainage Board, now in conjunction with the Environment Agency but even so we are seeing today the most extensive cover of water in our 16 years here. People in Taunton are the worst hit, with the River Tone flooding the town. Taunton and Bridgwater have always been liable to flooding but it became better controlled in the late 20th Century. Now Nature seems to have caught up with the flood controls and we're regressing to what it used to be like in the bad old days. The River Tone flows into the river Parrett which flows through Bridgwater to join the Severn estuary whose very high tidal flow can back up the water and flood the towns. The drainage is manipulated artificially to flood the moors at the expense of the towns, but this time it wasn't enough for Taunton.

I think there's something else going on - remember the collapsed river wall in Bridgwater? The engineers are at a crucial stage where they've taken the top of the wall away and they can't risk the river level getting too high or it will not only flood Bridgwater but it will destabilise the wall and more of it could collapse and bring down buildings too. I suspect Taunton, as well as the moors, has been sacrificed to prevent this!

Sounds awful - we in the NW are the only area without flood warnings.

Problem is the counties affected by the drought need at least another 6 months if not more of this to even start to make an impact on two successive years of exceptionally dry Winters.

Tiz, commiserations. I rang a friend in Monmouth yesterday and she said the Monnow was still rising and they were quite worried. I can see the logic in your speculation about flood levels being managed to protect the building works. Ian, from your mouth to God's ear!
We had an overcast day with scattered very light showers, the cloud was very thin and the sun occasionally broke through but didn't win the battle until late evening. Broken cloud this morning, less wind, definitely warmer. Glass is up slightly at dead on 30" and we are promised a similar day today with the prospect of clearer skies and colder in the next few days. A chilly Bank Holiday?

I fear you are right Moh. They tell us that cold weather is coming down from the North! Yesterday was a pleasant day and it doesn't feel at all bad outside this morning, dry and a light wind. Glass very little changed, just below 30" and if anything tending to fall. Doesn't look like a bad day for voting, it will not affect the turn-out!

A pleasant but not overly-bright day yesterday. Glass is down at just over 29.5". Dry, light breeze, not cold. This and better will do!

Dull yesterday but not unpleasant. Glass slightly up at 20.6", dry calm and a light frost. A sharp frost forecast for tonight. Could this be the last cold spell?

Ysterday was similar here Eileen. Lovely bright day and warm in the sun if you were sheltered. Started raining about tea time and by late evening we were having heavy showers. Glass has fallen back below 29.5" this morning. Flags damp but not raining at the moment. Feels warmer. Showers later on? Good growing weather, Wendy's soil temperature is slowly climbing!

Clement day yesterday and rain later which lasted all night and is still with us. breeze is warm and from the SW but will swing round later as the low moves away to the NE. We will have a colder air flow after the rain. 20C in South and snowing in Scotland.... Glass down to 29.3" but it will start to rise again later. Could get to be colder and still showery.

Drought rectification measures still falling from the sky here in the flat lands, aye and still being readily absorbed by sandy soil as well. I am a firm believer that many years of water abstraction for other areas has more to do with the drought than the recent dry winters.

Heavy rain on and off all day here Moh. Jack and I just did two short walks, we like exercise but not getting wet! There has been rain in the night but at the moment it's just a dampness blowing on the west wind. Glass is 29.6". I'll guess at slightly less weight of rain but a showery day tending to get colder as wind swings into the NW as the low passes over on its way north east.

It 'bucketed down' yesterday afternoon for about an hour, the grates would not take it. The wind is in the NW now and very cold with it, it is trying to rain.
