I know what you mean..... Jack is amazing when it comes to monitoring me especially if we are in a strange place, his eyes never leave me. If he gets out of sight on a walk when he is free he comes back to check on me. Eigg did that as well. I think it's a characteristic of a 24X7 dog.....

I couldn't resist posting this photo of my cousin's Labrador, Merlin. Those eyes follow you around the room!

Jack does the same. He loves eye contact and takes more notice of body language than spoken commands. That's the big difference between them and cats who don't usually like eye contact...... They see it as aggressive.

Did any of you see the American bloke gentling the Dartmoor Pony on a recent episode of Victorian Farm. Fascinating and all about body language......

I went a couple of times to see Monty Roberts doing demonstrations of his "join up" method of training horses when he was touring this country introducing his technique over 25 years ago. Wonderful to see how it works.

Another American called Mike Branch apparently but using the same methods. That took a bit of Googling, it was Edwardian Farm!

It's the time of year when dogs do a lot of grooming and scratching. Always a bit of a toss up whether it's dry skin or fleas. I shall give Jack a flea treatment just in case even though I see no signs.....

Bertie has a lump under the skin on his side that is increasing in size very quickly. He is booked in at Stanley House Vets this morning to get it removed. He's an old boy but the vet thinks he is up to having the op. My worry is that he will refuse to move when he has to leave Colin and then get aggressive if anyone tries to move him. He gets distressed and defensive if we try to restrain him in any way, never mind strangers!

Sorry to hear that Wendy. I hope he behaves better than you expect. You may be allowing anxiety about him to cloud the matter. He could surprise you and act sensibly, I hope so......

Colin has taken him down and he isn't worried about Bertie's behaviour, so I'm trying not to be too anxious about it.

I hope all goes well Wendy. Our moggies are very vocal on the way to the vets but then only offer passive resistance when being examined. More like rag dolls than the hunter killers they are.

All our cats over the years have enjoyed their vet visits! Bertie has to be muzzled before a vet can get near him, who knows what has happened in his past to make him that way. He is a mixed up, contrary old beggar with a mind of his own .....no one can tell him what to do!
Anyway, Col is home now and says Bertie was well behaved and trotted off happily with the nurse. Another few sleepless hours for no reason!!

Glad to hear he behaved himself. When Millie was a bit younger she was very feisty, only happened once but we had to get her down from the top of the air con unit in the examination room on on occasion, single leap from the table and she wasn't for coming down, all teeth and claw and twice her normal size, she's calmed down now. :surprised:

Bertie was home by 4pm but very weak and groggy. The lump was a tumour but it all came out OK. We could have paid an extra £75 plus vat to find out if it was cancerous or benign but there doesn't seem to be any point in doing that with an old dog like him. He has a very neat scar about 6" long on his side, with soluble stitches so nothing to take out. He just needs to sleep it off and get his strength back now. Colin will probably need trauma counselling.

It took a bit of encouragement to get him to stand up and get moving this morning (he is very weak in his back legs normally) and refused to go out for a pee, but then he had a good long drink of water and polished off his breakfast with painkillers added. We are much happier now he has drunk some water.
