I suspect a false widow bit me but that is only based on the symptoms, I never actually saw it. I'd be horrified to know what bit you.

Re: HOUSEHOLD TIPS NOT FOUND IN WOMAN'S WEEKLY
That sounds nasty Maz.....
Snakes bothered me a bit. I met a rattlesnake in California, a big Brown Snake near Dubbo and a red-bellied black near Perth. I did a pic of the latter and was congratulated by a man for standing still as it passed. I didn't know the bugger was poisonous! So that's today's tip, stand still!

Re: HOUSEHOLD TIPS NOT FOUND IN WOMAN'S WEEKLY
We were always taught to stand still and yell as loud as you can. ( snakes are deaf but rely on vibrations to detect where you are).
Trouble is, it is human nature to jump about when you see one!
I was unwinding the hose one day when I huge lizard fell out of the loops onto my foot. Frightened the life out of me! I couldn't stand still. I jumped about like a woman possessed!
I won't walk anywhere near the river near our home unless I have proper boots and socks on...

Re: HOUSEHOLD TIPS NOT FOUND IN WOMAN'S WEEKLY
I never saw a wild snake in England so I tend to forget about them whilst I'm walking about here, a stupid thing to do, but every now and again I get a shock reminder. I treat them all as poisonous and avoid them. We get plenty of lizards here, Maz, and I like seeing them. I've found small ones inside the apartment several times. They get under the flyscreens. They're harmless and good for killing the mozzies.

Re: HOUSEHOLD TIPS NOT FOUND IN WOMAN'S WEEKLY
In California schoolteachers who are in charge of a class where a child is bitten are instructed to catch the snake so the venom can be identified. Susi was a teacher and said that on the whole she would pass!
When I was at Dubbo I stayed with a family where the husband worked for a big mining company and his ute had a ship to shore radio. I went out to it one day to retrieve something I'd left in there and once I was inside and my eyes had got accustomed to the relative gloom I saw that there was a BIG Brown Snake coiled up on the hood. I got on to the ship to shore and called the house, he came on and told me not to mess with the radio but when I explained why he came out with his shotgun and blew its head off. He knew there was one about and had been after it for a while.
If you have a cock-up in the shed or sewing room, don't get angry, keep calm and get even by doing it again but right this time!

One thing I have missed on this version of the site is the fact that we lost an easy way of acknowledging a post without necessarily replying. I don't know whether Ian has modified the list but he used this one and I don't think I have seen it before. I shall be using it in future!

Re: HOUSEHOLD TIPS NOT FOUND IN WOMAN'S WEEKLY
The thumbs up icon is all very well but the face behind it looks a bit on the sad side! Also it reminds me of hearing recently about the man years ago who complained that he saw a penis during a theatre production but the judge defended the producers and said it was probably the actor holding his thumb up in that position!

Best of what I could find in the smilie set we have loaded, the others looked manic.

Lighten up Tiz! I think it's a big improvement and a handy little thumb, whatever it looks like!
I was mashing spuds yesterday and justifying them to myself in a low carb diet. My attitude is take good advice about diet and enjoy the benefits but don't be afraid of experimenting with individual items to fine tune the regime to what suits you best. We all have different metabolisms. So that's today's tip!

Re: HOUSEHOLD TIPS NOT FOUND IN WOMAN'S WEEKLY
My tip still applies Maz. Only thing is that in that case almost all clothing is inappropriate!
I can still picture in my mind a group of hens in the shade under a Pepper Tree at Dubbo in somewhere round 50C. They were being sprayed gently with water from a sprinkler nailed on the trunk and if there's anything that looks more miserable than a wet hen I don't know what it is!

Re: HOUSEHOLD TIPS NOT FOUND IN WOMAN'S WEEKLY
I can/ I know! (Hello!)
I get like that on hot days...and it was 35 today...fairly comfortable under the ceiling fan but very sweaty after eating a salad for evening meal. We will be ok if a sea breeze springs up and we can open all doors and windows to blow it through before bedtime. Otherwise, it is just a wet face-washer and keep turning the pillow over all night to try and find a cool spot.
I really hate the heat. I shall soon be back to me cold baths!

You'd love it here this morning then Maz. Have a look at Pennine Weather! Proper November, gloomy, cold and wet.... (Good for the complexion!)

34C here at 6pm.
( I have just shed my bra....much more comfy!)
( not expecting visitors )
We have 14, 8 foot by 8 foot windows we can open up as soon as the sun goes down. Plus two sets of 8 foot by 8 foot doors. It's like opening up entire walls of our home.
