Obviously, you're both joined by `quantum entanglement' and the next spooky thing is that yesterday this report appeared on just that - Einstein's `spooky action at a distance'. LINK

I've worked out a strategy which has improved my coffee making. I boil the kettle every morning to bleach my pint pot and the sink and brew my proper coffee at the same time. I use the boiling water for the pot but then put the kettle down and leave it for a few moments until it has stopped singing and is cooling. Only then do I brew the coffee. It definitely makes a difference, the coffee has a smoother taste. Sounds obsessive I know but I like my coffee and buy the best. It would be a shame to spoil it with boiling water!

Common knowledge surely that you use boiling water for tea but not coffee. Boiling milk, now that's a different matter. No bother to me, I haven't had a sip of coffee for nearly 40 years.

I use a Senseo coffee machine. I found a source of compatible Senseo coffee pods online, current blend is Brazilian Santos. It makes a very nice brew :-)

www.thecoffeepod.co.uk if anyone is interested just look for the special offers. They make pods for all sorts of machines.

Not as common as you might think Ian.
My mother used to occasionally make tea with boiling milk which is how it is often made in India. I have an idea the custom was brought back by returning members of the Indian Army. It is quite good for a change, a completely different taste. She used to but the tea leaves in the milk while it was simmering and keep it in that state for a minute or two before leaving it to stand and brew.

Friends of mine have made me tea like that, I'm sure it had cardamom in it too.

The last time I had it was in the original Karachi Social Club in Bradford.

News this morning of a cunning wheeze in the supermarkets (LINK) where the shelf price showing an offer isn't reflected in the till prices. So keep your eyes skinned when you see an offer and decide to go for it!

You hear very little these days of the condition known as a 'Stepmother's Blessing'. This is a (in my case) a congenital crack in the skin on the tip of my right thumb which extends far enough down into the tissue to break open and be extremely painful. What triggers it is the skin getting hard as a response to hard use of my hands and is often worse in frosty weather. The basic cause is the skin becoming thick and dry and I have to be constantly on my guard. I find that harsh hand cleansers exacerbate it and regular use of a high quality grease based cream like Atrixo is useful but the main defence is to keep the skin at that point thin by regular use of emery boards. So if you have one, keep on top of it!

Another thing to be aware of is when the check-out person and others in the line get too chatty. I was charged twice for an item last week. $14 instead of $7. We were all too interested in talking about a small earthquake that Adelaide had had the night before, haha. I got a refund later .
I know I'm in my own little world, but it's OK... they know me here. :)

At this time of the year in the Northern Hemisphere we are entering a period where heavy rain and high winds can be common. It might be a good time to make sure that drains are clear and not blocked by leaf litter and that guttering is in good order. A stitch in time saves nine!

It's never too late to re-assess your life style and diet! We get into habits and as we age our bodies and needs change and that's the time to make adjustments, particularly if you become subject to long term health changes. At the moment I am feeling the benefit of taking advice and modifying my diet to exclude bread and spuds and increase my veggie intake. Things don't stay the same and today's tip is to re-examine your life style and consider whether change might be a good thing!

A codicil to that tip is ignore scare stories used by advertisers to promote the latest 'health supplement' or 'super-food'.

I never sort my clothes before washing them, whiter whites are not the main goal in my life. However, yesterday I had to wash my shed warehouse coat as well and it was oily as well as dirty so I put it in with everything else but went mad and put two sachets of detergent in. It worked fine and there is a noticeable difference in the other clothes as well.

No, cleaner. The sachets are evidently a minimum dose for a full load. Perhaps I wear my clothes longer than other people and need more detergent......

Is it soft water you have up there? (from memory I think so). Down here in "terribly hard water Norfolk" we always have to double up on washing powder / liquids as a minimum.

Yes Julie, kettles never fur up. I always hated the taste of London water for that reason, scum formed on the top of a pot of tea! Our water is lovely, can't understand why anyone buys bottled water in Barlick!

Ian mentioned the other day that Jack's house still has a lead water service pipe. He is not alone, many properties in Barlick are still served by the original pipes installed in the late 19th century when we first got mains water. The dangers of lead service pipes are well known and if any alterations are made to your supply investigate the possibility of replacing the feed with modern plastic which is much safer.

A very personal tip this morning. If, like I did, you revisit a death by watching a video of the memorial event don't give in to negative feelings. Concentrate on the good memories and how well everyone is handling the sad occasion. The overall feeling I got yesterday was of respect and happy memories. We were lucky, in my case I was blessed with 51 years of joy. That's where your focus should be!
