Be nice to people! It's amazing how they never forget and pop up just when you need them most..... One of Margaret's school friends has said that I must never pay for a taxi again when going to hospital..... People give back what they get......

I have long been convinced that 'We are what we eat'. I apply this to myself and my dogs. Experience indicates that it works.... Immunotherapy seems to be a good time to stick to this rule!

Don't talk about olden times with your old mates if there is anything there you would rather forget. It tends to send you back 50 years but in my case that's not a problem. Lovely memories of happy days working together.

If you see an unusual surname that is familiar to you, get in touch. You may know something about their ancestors that they would like to know.....

Nothing wrong with having good stocks of non-perishable food in your store cupboards! Especially when supplies might be interrupted......

I remember when there was a run on sugar, and then (can you believe it?) salt. In the 1970's I think. It was impossible to get either from the supermarket, and demonstrated how fragile the supply chain - even in normal circumstances can very quickly become.

The more this topic is mentioned in the media - and I've heard it twice this morning - the more certain that panic buying will happen.

I don't see what I am doing as 'panic buying', just common sense but I have no doubt some will go over the top.

Tailor your cooking to the weather. In our case at the moment this means hot nourishing meals based on good meat. In Australia in 40C weather this would obviously be silly but I believe that here it is essential if you want to stay healthy. We are what we eat!

If you get the chance of having good friends together, call it a birthday party and take advantage! I'm doing that today, one of my lunch companions shares my birthday on 14th of February, or at least, within a day.

I used to work for RM Williams Stanley and remember being taken thru the boot making factory and being shown every stage of making the boots. Very impressive. :good:
Easy to see why they cost an arm and a leg.

They're 'well heeled' in Ilkley aren't they - in both senses of the phrase.

Ilkey shoes

I'm jealous, but it's velcro fasteners only for me.

That's the one I bought but with a lighter Dainite plainer rubber sole. When I have them repaired I shall get them to fit a thicker plain rubber sole over the old one, I like what we used to call 'clump soles', I can feel the stones as I walk in these but that seems to be the fashion today, lighter shoes. I've been pumping polish into them two or three times a day, when I sit still I am surrounded by an aura of boot polish!

I suppose I am hopelessly old-fashioned but today's tip is that the ideal cold weather diet has plenty of fat and meat in it. Dead simple and it works.....

Today's tip is one which I have always shied away from because it is taboo but I must be getting reckless in my old age. I once had a long conversation with a French lady who was noted as a celebrity and a beauty and we were discussing perfumes and the reasons why women used them. She knew her stuff and told me that the reason Civet (the secretions from a feline bottom) was used as an ingredient was because it was thought to be a pheromone and attracted men. Then she told me something which I have never heard anywhere else but suspect it is widely known but never voiced. She said that her mother had told her that the ultimate attractive scent for exciting men was to simply rub a finger between the legs and then rub it behind the ears. I apologise if that offends but if it's true (and I suspect it could be) it needs to be more widely known!
