Of late I have been waking with back ache which vanishes when I get moving. At first I thought it might be my long serving Vi-spring Elite wonder mattress but have decided it is most likely to be the cheap base that has gone soft.
So today's tip is if you are faced with the same thing, replace the base and see if that cures it. If it doesn't you can go one stage further and spend on a new mattress.

Sheet of plywood between base and mattress will cure that!

Just reminded me of a little incident. A few years ago we went to New Mexico to stay with the wife's sister. She said the guest bed was too soft so she had put a sheet of plywood under the mattress and feel free to remove it if it was too uncomfortable. The trouble was the sheet was not as wide as the bed. In the middle of the night I moved onto the soft mattress and there was a deafening crash. Unbelievable, but nobody woke up!

Yes that can work. There is already one there China but the loss of support is to much for that. I shall get a better base and see what that does.

I replaced my mattress some time ago for one that required a solid base (the original set up was a sprung base). I fitted 4x1 timber battens, alongside the springs, and three quarter inch ply on top of the original base. I had to get 2 8x4 sheets of ply, as it's a 'superking' bed and each 'half' is 6ft x 3ft 3in. Still worked out cheaper than a new base though

That's probably why the plywood didn't fit my brother-in-law's bed, he used a standard 8 x 4 sheet.

I think that's exactly what I need to do but need to have a look at the rabbit. I have an idea that this base is fully sprung and I'd have a job fitting the solid top. Trouble is the mattress weighs a ton and getting it off is beyond me. That's why I have called the 'A' Team in. (Susan and Mick!)

Unfortunately my call for the cavalry has been trumped by more pressing concerns like Covid in the family. I shall have to reconsider my options!
So today's tip is when faced with a difficulty and the favoured option is knocked out by circumstance, withdraw, regroup and identify a different course of action!

Same as us then when camping, problem today is that their is always that doubt, unless you get tested. Glad they are OK.

Yes I agree with both of you, OG fascinates me. As for the outside world... Yes Maz it exists. I have just spent half an hour dealing with it and it isn't pretty. A poor lady in Shropshire is acting as trustee for my brother Leslie's will and I have had an update from her. It's a complicated estate for a lot of reasons and she is embroiled in 'discussions' with a multiplicity of bodies who are all biting chunks out of the estate, totally legally but the longer they take the more money they make. They are vultures, I wouldn't have Pippa's job (the Trustee) at any price and have told her she must charge for her time as well.
So today's tip is keep as far away from officialdom and the legal profession as possible.
Also.... Peter said "It makes you wonder what the outside world thinks of it all!" Perhaps this is why we don't seem to attract many permanent members, we frighten them to death. (Or is because we spell correctly and use good grammar?)

Tell me about it, vultures indeed. It cost a fortune to sort Dan's affairs out and he had nowt. His mobile account went into arrears of course after he died and his phone was gathered for forensic examination by the Traffic Police. I informed the mobile phone company that he had died but it didn't stop them pursuing me for arrears accrued after his death. I got a call from them asking to speak to the contract owner. I told them where to get off of course in no uncertain terms. I got he feeling at the time that there wasn't an ounce of compassion where business was involved. The bigger they are the more parasitic.

You would think they could not charge past the date their client died, or at least could only charge to the end of that billing period. Anything needed beyond that, should not be charged to the client/family.
Both hubby and I own our phones and only pay monthly for prepaid service (I pay £10 a month ) it never used to be like that. I used to pay £10 and it may last me 2 months (even 6 months) but the telco finally couldn’t cope with that. So they made it a minimum of £10 a month to maintain. ( I have about £120 credit in hand now as I never use my phone)....but still must pay or I lose all credit and service.
