Ah this is another way that we differ Marilyn. I prefer showers with the hot water running down my back and working it's magic. And any dirt that comes off me is taken straight down and into the drain, rather than lying in it.
By the time you have run your bath and got in, I have finished my shower
I very quickly get bored in the bath as well.

Showers use a lot less water as well so helping to save the planet. We are ditching our bath completely when we re-jig our bathroom? that will become a misnomer then won't it.

Ian, the misnomer is us talking about saving the planet. Gaia is in no danger, it's us that needs saving and it might concentrate people's minds if we started saying that. Problem is that we might be a bit late......

When you reach a certain age remember that if you are laid in the bath or on the floor, the safest way to regain your feet is to roll over and get in a kneeling position. Far more safe to get up then.

When I get severe back pain I can't get out of bed in the normal way by sitting up so I lie on my side, draw up my knees then use my elbow to push me into a kneeling position (on all-fours), then put one leg down onto the floor followed by the other.

I tried all sorts of ways to get out of bed before my op. None of them were pain free. I dreaded getting out of bed. I couldn't even sit up for a cup of tea. It was a case of laying flat, or forcing myself upright.
Even now, almost 2 weeks post op, I have to sit on the side of the bed to have the morning cuppa. I look forward to the day a morning cuppa means snuggling up on the pillows. Can't do that yet...still painful.

So true Ian.... That's why I have constantly complained/observed that at no time has anybody seriously addressed the wider global implications of adapting to change and remaining as part of the greater whole, imperfect though it is. At what point do the Brexiteers stop wrapping themselves in the flag, stop singing Rule Britannia and parroting stupid phrases like 'punching above our weight'?
Sorry Tiz and Maz, veering off topic there.... I recognise what you both describe. I mentioned it to Susan who works in a care home and she tells me that their instructions are to always try to get an old person who has fallen on to their knees before attempting to get them up. If they can't manage this they have to use a mechanical lift and harness (like an engine crane used in a garage) which can be quite distressing for the patient.
Today's tip. If someone offers to cut your toe nails for you, take advantage of it! Susan did mine the other day and has cured a painful big toe. I had left a sharp corner on the nail which could easily have become ingrowing. This being despite the fact I can easily reach my toes......

You don't immediately get a cold if you go out without a coat on on a warm day! I have to remind myself of this every year when we have our first warm day. I think yesterday was our warmest day this year, we reached the dizzy heights of 20C! A bit of a joke for our Australian friends.....

At this exact moment it is 20C in Adelaide and it is lovely. A relief after our last few days of low 30's.

Exactly Cathy. I remember Janet asking Big Harry to pass her cardigan over as she was chilled and Harry said to me "she's acclimatised now", it was 25C. When I first went to California I heard a news item on the radio as Susi was driving me in from LAX. "Residents of Laguna were evacuated from their homes last night in bitter temperatures of 65F as a wildfire approached the coast". I knew then I was abroad......
Today's tip for Barlickers, those shorts you bought for your holiday in Spain 20 years ago aren't necessarily a fashion statement today!

The problem I see about shorts is most of them aren't. Pants with six inch chopped off the bottom cannot be described as shorts neither can any other garment where the legs come below the knee in my view. I wear "Ice Cold in Alex" type shorts and will often get Sally to turn them into such from the stupid longer leg versions. You can still find them from one or two manufacturers, who if you think about it must make more money as there is not as much material in proper shorts. Shorts should be just that, short.

I wear shorts for about 7 months of the year ( well above the knee but not so short that my backside is hanging out). I have no intention of ever feeling too old for shorts.

I wasn't particularly thinking of Lib Dem Councillors but come to think they sometimes qualify. Can you remember Eric Morecambe's shorts with the wires holding the legs open? (Have you got the scrolls? No, I always walk like this!)
Today's tip. If you wear socks with sandals and someone says you shouldn't refer them to the Roman Legions. Socks were always worn with nailed sandals.

I always wear socks with sandals but I wouldn't be seen dead in shorts. Where I come from, only poor people don't wear socks. Besides, socks complement the knotted hankie on my head. Actually, some of the people you see in shorts should be shot on sight.
