Today's tip after a question from P. Always leave your work to relax overnight before finish machining. (It applies to building stews as well!)

Many years ago, in old-fashioned kitchens with a large coal fire a standard item was a stock pot continually simmering. This was started with bones or trimmings when preparing meat and replenished with vegetable trimmings and anything else that would otherwise have been thrown away. A good well kept stock pot could last for ten days or even longer. I love that idea but it's not practical today when cooking for one. I have to rely mainly on gravy from other cooking and stock cubes. Today's tip is to always remember when throwing anything away that might be a valuable ingredient and use this technique whenever possible.

If the elastic gets slack on your knickers consider seriously demoting them to wipers in the workshop instead of investing in new elastic especially if the waistband is all elastic.

I have found the wifes undies are good for polishing purposes, old pajamas if cotton are good for rag cleaning, also shirts when the collars and cuffs wear out - remove buttons.
For vests I tend to use T-shirts they are a big more baggy for me and warmer round the shoulders.

That was a bum steer, it didn't happen. I have looked at Daniel's mail and it was scheduled for Wednesday 20 November: BBC One TV, 7 - 7.30pm. I shall go back to catch up and have a look.
Today's tip. If the short days and gloomy weather are getting you down take heart, December 22 is the solstice and things will start to improve. It always makes me feel better!
(Of course in Oz it is the opposite way round, they will start to slide towards winter!)

Thinking about dirty washing... The best place for it is in the washer! It's out of the way, ready for the next wash when the quantity justifies it and the tea towels are available for blowing your nose on!

Why not? It's going to be washed and blowing your nose produces nothing more dangerous than the microbes in a tea towel that has been neglected, something that never happens with mine, they get replaced by a clean one at least once a day.

I think you are all being far too sensitive and ignoring the fact that we humans are continually soiling all our clothes in one way or another and yet we don't give that a seconds thought.
Here's an uncomfortable thought for you that will serve as today's tip. Possibly the most contaminated thing you will ever come into contact with is money, both coins and notes. You don't know where they have been! I once read that an amazing amount of money is contaminated by hard drugs, particularly cocaine.

Depends how much you trust your washing machine. Certainly wouldn't wipe my cutlery with my husband's handkerchiefs !

It's the opioid fentanyl that you have to be wary of now. It's 70 to 100 times stronger than morphine and even a slight residue on paper could put someone in hospital. It often gets into prisons and the warders end up accidentally poisoned by it. It's also a danger for nurses and carers.
