I'm getting the full support service from the kids and grandchildren so today's tip is a repeat, look after them on the way up because they come in handy on the way down!

It's a good time to mention Power of Attorney again! (I seem to remember hearing of someone who said they'd now got Power of Eternity!)

Mine are fully operational and the hospital knows about them. That reminds me, they want to have sight of it and my directive for terminal care.

...And ruefully remember the Sunday morning when I set off from Wallasey to work in Bradford at 4:15 am instead of 5:15 am, and unusually the time wasn't mentioned on my car radio until I was only a mile from work! There's always one!

Went to bed an hour later and got up at the usual time for a Sunday, just after 7. Had to wait until 8.30 for breakfast though, the restaurant didn't open until then. We had a couple of nights away and watched an Abba tribute on Friday and an Elvis tribute on Saturday https://www.warnerleisurehotels.co.uk/l ... 2/44/1108 Home now as P has to get up for work tomorrow.

When faced with serious decisions, trust your instincts! You may be wrong but have the courage to assert yourself, at the very least you have control! God loves a trier!

The best source of advice and information is to talk to someone who has been there!
Wendy, please thank Colin for his wise words when I spoke to him, it was very helpful and supportive. (He did the same as I did and discharged himself after a similar experience) Tell him I have taken note of his strong advice on carbs and sugars.

If something happens that provokes temporary panic it's a great advantage having a sensible daughter to talk you down and suggest a solution. She is a qualified and practising counsellor and I told her I enjoyed being counselled by her. She said I couldn't afford her fees! So the tip is cultivate good relations with your kids!

I don't have a daughter (sensible or not).
I hope yours told you to stop dancing about like a giddy kipper! Worry achieves nothing, and can't change the outcome...

No Maz, what she actually said when I apologised for being so pathetic she told me not to be silly. I was having a perfectly normal reaction to a difficult situation.

Me too Maz! Craig is always reminding me how I sent him to school with broken arm. It was just a cracked bone in his elbow! If he could stand up and he wasn't infectious he went to school. :laugh5:

If you want to switch your water butts from the left side of the drainpipe to the right don't forget that you'll need to modify the inlets and outlets unless you want the taps to face the wall!

That sounds like a fruit of bitter experience Tiz. I have, in other circumstances, fallen into a similar gumption trap.
So today's tip is to seek out these traps before you start!

If you like cooking have a go at some really old fashioned dishes from the oldest cook book you can find. I find I can learn a lot from them.

I like looking at old recipes, but often they need a bit of flavour added. Not much flavour in Salt/Pepper/Parsley etc
A bit of Chilli goes a long way. Nothing wrong with old fashioned cooking, but they didn't have access to the wonderful flavours of today. ( but not Garlic! Thankyou!)

I'll second that but it's more the ways they cooked on open fires that intrigues me. Lots of 'one pot' recipes that convert well to the slow cooker. Besides, I love Dorothy Hartley's book particularly the hundreds of explanatory pen and ink sketches, they are a delight.

If you discover a new strategy, consider transferring it to other aspects of the same field. What I am thinking about is that in my latest batch of Braised Steak a la Hartley she said not to put any liquid in with the shredded veggies on low heat beyond a tablespoon of stock as a starter. They make their own highly flavoured stock. It works and I shall transfer the principle to the rest of my slow cooking.
