It must be a wonderful thing, to reach 60 and still have at least one parent alive...

I think M&S feel the same way. It reassures them, if I can make it so can they! And they aren't orphans yet. :biggrin2:

Once more the latest medical research suggests that being chilled is not a good thing as we are more liable to infections. Our grandmothers were right again so always put a layer more than you need on, better a mild sweat than a chill.

What you need is sunshine.... :sunny3: it is sunshine that makes all the difference. But yes...when you can't get sunshine even sat near a window...put another layer on your chest.

Well...it can not smell very nice, especially after 12 hours under someone's armpits! I refuse to cuddle anyone who smells like they died last week!

What's this thing `sunshine', Maz? Is it some new product invented in Australia but not yet exported to Britain? Send us a sample and we'll place an order with you!

Old farmer's saying about winter: "In summer we **** and farm, in winter we can't farm!"
That about sums it up. So today's tip is don't fret about winter weather, just deal with it, it'll all come to in May next year.

I'm glad I am not a farmer's wife.... :feminist:

Six slow cooked mutton chops with gravy separated and de-fatted in the fridge overnight. Ready for de-boning this morning, condiments and a stew build. Definitely the best way to cook mutton! (12 hours slow cooking on low yesterday)

Never forget the subtle magic that happens in slow fried caramelised onions and tinned tomatoes with good olive oil. It constantly amazes me.

Given the controversy over on the other threads - would cooking similar over the top of a lancashire boiler have been useful to do. Sometimes at the railway culinary activities in a carefully fired bolier smokebox has been tried , jacket potatoes, curry in a foil lined biscuit tin.

Len Pitts who used to be the boilerman at West Marton Dairy heated a tin of Maconochie's Irish stew on the weir steam feed pump every day for his dinner.

Sammy Connors was the boiler man where i did my apprenticeship he used to warm his meal on a steam trap, one day the fitters did some work on the the trap and when finished did not replace Sammys basin , when he went to collect it he blew his top, " some effin lousy bastard has let my lunch go cold", just has he said that Miss Gee a very prim elderly secretary walked by and heard Sammy and complained to her boss,Sammy was asked to apologise, later in the day Miss Gee and Sammy met and he apologised, Miss Gee said i thought you must be perturbed, Sammy " perturbed, some effin lousy bastard had let my lunch go cold"

A wet coat hung on the back side of a high pressure steam cylinder dries in no time at all.
The engines were very friendly things to work with.

Look after your boots and they will look after you and your feet. My new winter boots have come to nicely, the oil has soaked in properly and the leather is nice and supple. They are broken in nicely now and as comfortable as carpet slippers!

I hope it's nothing serious. Are you referring to your OG password or elsewhere? If it's OG then Ian needs to know.

No, it was suspect activity connected with PayPal. I got another mail this morning asking me to update credit card details. I deleted it. If I do anything like that I'll contact PayPal myself via my account! That's today's tip.

We move into another winter. If like me you are high mileage, take it easy, accept that more clothes slows you down so don't try to do brisk like you did when you were younger. Slow but steady and you will survive!

Sadly I know what you mean Stanley and I’m much younger than you. Not slow, mind you, just slower.
Has to start somewhere I suppose.
I know I'm in my own little world, but it's OK... they know me here. :)
