In the LTP Ernie Roberts told me about trapping starlings and roasting them in the hard times after WW1. Only time I have ever come across it in Barlick but they were really poor.

After writing this I remembered something that was said by my old chum Sir Jeremy Worthington, who used to live near Reeth. He was the chaiman of one of the evergrowing number of animal protection organisations that had little faith in the RSPCA. He said,"Getting the RSPCA to do anything is fraught with more difficulty than poking smoke up a cats arse with a pin."

Do Energy Drinks sap your Strength?

Post by Whyperion »

As I walk around , I often pick up the loose litter that can be re-cycled. Amazingly many of the discarded tin/ally/steel cans are of the Energy Drinks ranges ( Red Bull , Relentless, Lucosade, Happy Shopper own brand ). It really surprises me that these drinks remove the ability of the consumer to walk across the co-op car park to place the consumed products receptical in the [admittedly unmarked white ] re-cycling skip and instead result in the hand immediately loosing grip of an empty vessel causing it to fall. I can understand this pheonomenaom in the contents of the white light lager tins , but these energy companies clearly need investigations as there is something no working as one would expect.

Everyone gets it but the incidence seems to be lower if you bite the bullet and donate to get rid of adverts. I get it perhaps once a session. Doc will be on the case when he gets a bit of time.

Glad it just wasn't me getting this message too. Though I seem to be getting it less for some reason.

In the scale of things an occasional annoying message is something we can all live with. Once Doc has sorted out more important priorities I'm sure he'll get around to zapping it. Nolic

Not stupid at all Eileen. It is annoying even though I only get it once a session. I'll have a quiet but firm word with Doc today, promise! (I want him to do something about Newshound as well, do we need it....?)

The google notice comes up now and then but doesn't bother me. What I do find a bit troublesome, and is different from the old site, is that the threads with a lot of photos in are slow to load. The thread comes up but then `jumps about' until it settles down, i.e. until all the pics have loaded. The one with all the photos of the Olympic torch sponsors procession is the worst because there are so many pics. Does this happen to other people? Nothing has hanged on my computer or broadband speed. Is it because the photos being submitted on this site are too big?

the torch procession one is mostly links from photobucket , your browser might be interpreting them in different ways , some pre fetch the picture dimensions and size accordingly others do it part picture at a time. I can normally click on last page of a thread and it doesnt take too long for the thread to load and get to the end, maybe London is on faster adsl than Barnoldswick / Deepest Somerset.

The prices vets charge. We all love our animals and want to do the best by them but it's getting more and more expensive.

The Google pop-up pops-up whenever I want to put a comment on. I can quickly get rid of it, but it is annoying, but suppose we'll have to get used to it.

Small animal practice has a lot to answer for. The Animal Vet TV programmes have a lot to answer for!
Pics actually archived on OG load faster than the old site. Using third parties slows the site down. Go figure.....

Cloggy, the mindset of bureaucracy thew world over can't be fathomed. Funniest cash story I have is being asked for identification when attempting to pay cash in Penney's in NY in about 1980. I told them to cancel the sale!

You're regarded with great suspicion if you try to buy things with cash nowadays and it's always blamed on `preventing money laundering', which is very funny if you take into account that the biggest money launderers are the banks themselves! You have to present ID, often photo ID, for all sorts of things. We're selling the house my dad has just moved from and the estate agent wanted utility bills and photo ID. When we bought the new house for him it was the same. When you go to the conveyancing solicitor it's ID again. We're collecting copies of deeds from another solicitor and guess what - bring photo ID for both of us. We'll need ID in Tesco next!

Tizer , its probably safer for you with the ID , there were instances of tenants selling the properties they were in pretending to be their landlord.
