The fact that my router died during the night. It's getting power but not doing anything with it. I have refitted my old Huawei router and everything seems to be working, it's even talking to my phone. So far so good.....
I shall have to ask Talktalk for a replacement.
The news coming in from the Bahamas, the death toll is going to be massive. At the moment the official total is 30 but expect this to get into the thousands.

Fifteen years since we 'upped sticks' in the south and moved to Barlick. It was raining then as well :laugh5:

My wife's sister's husband (so, my brother in law) had family here at Hey Farm and they moved here in 1985. We visited regularly and decided we liked the look of the place, it just took my wife 17 years to make her mind up :-)

There's a coincidence. I don't think I knew that.....
The router saga, upset my day completely, but these things happen. Main thing is we coped and got a good outcome. New one arrives Monday. Stand by for a call for help if you are about Kev. I may need your expertise to make the TV talk to it! (Mental note. Be nice to Ian in case he becomes spot ball!)

The fantastic coverage that ITV Granada gave to the WASPI demonstration at Media City in Manchester yesterday. Sally and Isla May were featured on the front row of protesters. Isla met Andy Burnham who who supports the women, he likened her to a young suffragette. :biggrin2:

Hundreds of Women in Salford Pension Protest

Interesting to note that they were outside the BBC studio's and they chose not to cover the story.

Sally told me that the BBC got security to pull down all the blinds on the ground floor windows. Of no importance then.

Do you remember the story they told about Young Tooley, the barber in Earby who was noted as the biggest liar in the town? A customer came in one day with an enormous mushroom and said to Young Tooley "Beat that!". Tooley agreed it was a big one but said it wasn't as big as the one he had picked in Thornton Bottoms. When asked how big it was he replied "Well look at this way, my biggest job was shifting the sheep that were sheltering under it!" :biggrin2:

What attracted our attention this morning was that the blinds were still closed in the front window of the elderly widower who lives opposite us. He's usually up much earlier than us and always opens his blinds; also he tells us and other neighbours if he's going to be away from home. We rang his landline and mobile phone, and rang the doorbell, but got no response. Asked neighbours but he hadn't told anyone he was going to be away from home. That's when we found that none of us had contact details for any of his family. A neighbour then phoned the surgery to see if they had contact details for next of kin but they said they couldn't help. We'd all seen him and his car yesterday but we couldn't now tell whether or not the car was in the garage. I tried his front door too. Time went by but then suddenly there he was turning the car into his drive. I went and explained that we were all concerned but at first he couldn't see what the fuss was about. Gradually it sank in why we were worried about him and now we have the landline and mobile numbers of his daughter!

This is a situation which has worried my sons. They asked that I give emergency contact details to my wonderful next door neighbours. I've done that, but they are often away so the problem not yet full solved. I might pin a copy up in the porch, but that seems a bit extreme.

We spoke of Stanley's solution - an 'I am alive' message first thing every morning. They decided that was too much of a good thing.

There are solutions (from Dragons Den I think) whereby of you don't switch your kettle on by a certain time, a message is sent to your relatives. That's clever, but not free I'd guess, so not attractive.

Alan Bennett was across the subject in his monologue 'A cream cracker under the settee' - worth a look.

After Dad died my mum phoned every morning at 8.30am and every evening at 5pm, it was reassuring but got a bit wearing! It was supposed to be a quick check that she was OK but as the years went by she wanted more and more conversation. I miss it now of course!

Now I'm not saying Young Tooley was right about a flock of sheep but in Pingguo we have some big ones too:

Bought a lavatory brush at Shambles on the Square. The lady asked if I wanted a bag for it but I told her I would wave it with pride as I marched home. She said it was surprising how many people asked for bags for things like that.... They must be very sensitive souls!

In Ireland if you go into an off licence for a bottle of wine, spirits etc, they always put it in a brown paper single bottle bag, i always refuse, if people dont realise why you have been in the place, what do they think you are carrying, in a similar vein i also still hold my wifes hand and give her a kiss in public, and never worried about being seen looking after our children outside the home .
