Perhaps other airlines should be checking what their own staff are up to...
`Qantas 'disturbed' by claims of gang infiltration' LINK
`Qantas said it was "disturbed" by claims that some staff may have been involved in organised crime following an Australian media report that gangs had "infiltrated" the airline. The Nine newspapers and 60 Minutes reported the allegations based on a classified intelligence operation. It said agencies believe organised crime groups had infiltrated Qantas to facilitate illegal activities. In a statement Qantas said authorities had not raised any concerns...'.

I have had my noon walk. O'Callaghan's have put two shovels of cold tarmac in the puddle. This took two men a van and a mini-excavator all morning. They have removed the barriers and are still there talking. I wonder how the contractors are paid, looks very much like cost-plus to me!

When we had BT inspecting its pavement manholes here there were four of them in bright yellow garb clustered around the hole. One with a thingy to lift the cover, one with a probe of some kind, one with a clipboard and one with nothing so he must have been the supervisor.

It looks very much like the Openreach teams which have been congregating around Barlick over the past few weeks. 90% of the 'team' with hands in their pockets, sat about or looking at their mobile phones and one person doing a bit of actual work....! I think I chose the wrong career :laugh5:

I was thinking of the hundreds of days when I used to work 12 or 14 hours at a stretch and the only time I stopped was for a few minutes at a mealtime if I was lucky! Things seem to have changed.

Something to brighten your day. These are dragon fruit flowers, they bloom overnight, and the fruit is the red-fleshed variety. This was in the early morning sun on our roof terrace. Dragon fruit grows wild here but is also widely cultivated in this area. A sort of cactus type plant. Easy to grow and very low maintenance, my type of gardening!

Chinatyke, thanks for the pic. I’ve never eaten Dragon Fruit but I hear it is full of things that are good for you.
I did a quick price-check and found - Qld Feb ‘21 - White Flesh Dragon Fruit $7 to $10 a kilo.
Enjoy yours for free. 😊

Such a sight was common when I was younger. As one whose step father and mother both worked at Ferranti - Hollinwood It's sad to see such a transformer being imported rather than made there.

PS - I'm jealous of the view from your balcony China. If circumstances were different - I'd come and take a look. . . .

"PS - I'm jealous of the view from your balcony China."
So am I David. Would it be too obvious to say it was both exotic and Oriental? :biggrin2:
Meanwhile, in the nitty gritty of real life... You will no doubt remember the Tontine will I am a legatee under. There are signs that there may be movement in the undergrowth within the next few months. One matter has been worrying me in connection with it and this morning I screwed up my courage and rang the solicitor who is dealing with it. To my great surprise I got an immediate answer, 'Yes' to my question, and the major problem vanished in a puff of smoke. I am celebrating with a cup of tea and might even treat myself to a bag of chips with extra salt and vinegar!

And you would be made very welcome! It's "open house" here, 'm always happy to put up visitors. My pal is coming up from Nanning on Thursday evening and staying over until Sunday. He loves doing BBQ so no doubt we'll be making good use of the roof garden whilst he is here.

I had a BLT instead of the chips. Slept like a baby last night. It's not often a one word answer can cut through all the crap and give you everything you want and a brown paper bag to rake it way in. That was a good telephone call yesterday.

Halogen light bulbs to be banned in UK homes as Britain follows EU's example
Fluorescent strip lights like those used in offices will also be banned from sale from 2023 under new legislation.

Halogen
Thank God we are only following their example. This way we can blame them for the shortage at the next general election.

I don't see Skelmersdale in that list? Perhaps it's an error or omission. :biggrin2:

The queue of traffic from the Stone Trough at Kelbrook through to Stoney Lane in Foulridge. They are planing the surface off between the Four Elephants and Stoney Lane, it took me 40 minutes to get from Barlick Aldi to Foulridge.
