Yesterday, it was briefly reported that one of the victims in the Borough Market atrocity was shot and killed accidentally by the police. I thought this would be big news, but little more was mentioned in later bulletins. I read today that one person was wounded in the head by a police bullet, but their life is not threatened. They were very lucky. 'Fog of war' I suppose, but easy to see how conspiracy theories are born.

I watched the news story unfold on the BBC News channel, they mentioned unsubstantiated reports of on social media but refused to expand on it until it was confirmed. Obviously some lessons have been learned...

Driving through Colne and greeted by a sign saying 'Road Closed Sat 10 June, The town centre is closed off for a music and food festival. Festival. . Doesn't do anything for waist lines but it adds a bit of colour to the place.

Sounds like a ricochet David, always a hazard on hard surfaces. If so it would have lost momentum, hence being 'hit in the head' but surviving.

President May stepping on the slippery slope of curtailing Human Rights as a response to the terrorists. This is a very slippery slope and it worries me.

The fact that I must not allow myself to get either enthusiastic or depressed about today's election. As I told a man from English Heritage once, when he was waxing lyrical after starting Ellenroad Engine, if he was going to join the club he had to curb himself, we don't do 'enthusiastic' up here! We have been disappointed too many times.....

( so you do not vote, Stanley ?)

My attention was distracted ( rather than attracted) today by the noise of building next door. I didn't mind the 0730 am start...I didn't mind the hammers or the circular saw...or the banter of builders.
What stressed me was their loud radio and music. After about 8 hours, I was ready to scream. It seemed to be right up against our side wall. If they do that again tomorrow, I shall ask them to find a different location for it, because it truly drove me nuts!

Sally reports polling as busy from the station she was on this morning, that's good considering the weather. It seems to be brightening up which will be better for the polls.

I went in to school this morning to find that the exams inspector was in (since 7am), he spent an hour and a half with the Exams Manager inspecting paperwork and security arrangements and then came into the Gym to watch us set up, settle the students and for the correct procedure for starting the exam (Mathematics, Foundation and Higher papers (with calculator)). Pleased to say that he marked us as "excellent" before moving on to his next inspection.

I came home to a letter from the Crown Court summoning me to two weeks jury service from the end of July. We are booked to go on holiday the second week in August so I hope it doesn't get extended.

No peace for the wicked. :extrawink:

You can apply for a cancellation but each application is vetted to see if it's considered a reasonable excuse to avoid service.

I would imagine a pre booked holiday would be a valid enough reason.

The guidance notes quote "exceptional circumstances".

I have just re read my post and it's not very clear, we are going on holiday two weeks into August. My service should finish a couple of days before. Compensation for lost earnings is interesting. If you are held for over 201 days of service and serve more than 4 hours a day you get £228.06 per day.

Of course I voted Maz. I have got the results programme on and it looks as though President May's 'My and I' campaign has failed miserably. Good!

Another day of the builder's radio blaring ( they turned it on full blast at 07.20am).
I have shut every door and pulled every curtain on that side of the house, which helps, except for that awful back beat.
One positive thing is that as they erect the ground floor walls, they have dragged the radio within the building...and gradually it is diminishing due to the insulating effect of timber stud-work.
Hopefully they don't work weekends! It should give us 3 days peace, as it is a public holiday Monday.

Back to the dark ages! The pound has already fallen 3% just at the thought of the ensuing bedlam.

Quite right China, We can't carry on in this state of flux. Mrs May ought to call a snap election on a 'Strong and Stable' ticket. Then the electorate will realize they should do as they are told and stop behaving like naughty children walking across a wheat field. Lets get back to the good old days when you could rely on people like Sir Fred Goodwin and Bernie Madoff (USA) to look after our money for us.

China, quite obvious that the decline of the Pound is Corbyn's fault..... Watch it soar back up as the markets react to having the Safe Hands of May at the helm.....
P, you are wicked..... but I like it!
Maz, Profumo paid the price for his bad judgement in associating with some very dodgy characters but in his later life did a lot of good and was recognised by many as a reformed character.
What grabbed me was the healing powers of sleep. I was a bit dodgy for some reason but as usual good grub and sound sleep reset whatever it was.

I agree that Profumo was a good man.
It is Stephen Ward that I feel was most unjustly treated. He paid the ultimate price, taking his own life. Everyone was trying to save their own skins ( from policemen to MP's and judges). Lies propped up lies all over the place. The "girls" behaved disgracefully, and would have sold their own grandmothers for money.
I have enjoyed the book.

I've saved Poldark for tonight, I watched Loch on ITV....
The fact I am cooked up for a few days, have a clean house and will benefit from a visit by Susan this morning. All adds up to a good day!
Later, I've just noticed that with the thermostat set at 18C the heating has cracked on briefly. I thought it was cool and the boiler agrees with me.

We watched Poldark at 9pm and then The Loch on catch-up at 10pm.
We put our heating on for a while on Friday evening and I think we may do the same tonight - hot on Wednesday - I wish it would settle.

I agree Moh, I've put my vest back on!
A small thing grabbed me. Who was the genius who advised Armani to name their latest fragrance for men 'Profumo'? Not very good connotations in most people's minds in the UK!
The fact my grand daughter was seriously burgled, car, computers, credit cards..... Such a violation.
