Later.... I fell into a gumption trap. My trusty Phillishave was dead! I got the multi-meter and started checking but started at the wrong end. I got no current at all until I got to the socket and realised that I must have switched it off yesterday when I used it for my blitzer to smooth my Pease Pudding out! Shaver fine, faith in my diagnostic process slightly dented!

Continued excitement in watching the gas men trying to locate leaks from the gas main across the road. They arrived 8 days this saturday gone drilling 'sniffer' holes to pinpoint the leak. Much shaking of heads, there were readings along a 40 yard stretch. Sunday saw them start digging at the strongest location. This is a 3 inch cast iron main quietly rotting away with connections leading off to every house on either side of the road. Wednesday started a second hole with another length of pipe exposed. Yesterday more sniffer drilling, three vans. one digger machine and a cable camera. Enough men to dig the channel tunnel. It looks very much like we will see all the road being dug up. The gas people are certainly giving it some priority. Mind you at one time I could smell gas 30 yards away while working in the garden. If you hear a loud bang you'll know what it is.

That is worrying! I hope they find it quickly P, don't want any headlines.
The fact today is different. I have to keep reminding myself. Roll on Tuesday!
Later.... See THIS BBC report that the government is 'thinking about' banning section 21 eviction notices which have affected many tenants and made renting very insecure. Question is, will the powerful landlord's lobby fight against it. I think that could be a given.

Yet another balloon with attached streamers collected on our field walk this morning, last week's had already been well chewed by some poor animal. When will people accept that letting off helium filled balloons is littering! This morning's had a sad message attached so I assume it was meant to go to heaven ......

It's such a shame about the Notre Dame Cathedral fire, so much lost.
I know I'm in my own little world, but it's OK... they know me here. :)

I saw the reports last night Cathy, it looks like total destruction..
A good day at Airedale, more later when I have woken up after a big sleep.
Later, see Medical matters for the full SP on yesterday.
See THIS for Trump's words of advice for the French government and Boeing. This man should not be allowed out in the community.....
PS. It looks as though the fire could be connected to the work being done on the cathedral. Shades of Windsor Castle....

I think the two towers have survived but the damage apart from the roof is the internal wooden infrastructure. French businessmen are already pledging hundreds of millions of euro's for the rebuild. £350million so far, I reckon it will need a lot more considering the budget for our parliament buildings. It will become a lifetimes work for many craftsmen as it was when it was first built.

When I heard Macron telling the nation it would be in use again, fully restored, in five years I thought hello, another politician engaging his mouth without putting his brain into gear.... He could live to regret saying that.
Funnily enough, a complete rebuild like Notre Dame can sometimes be easier than a refurb of a building in use. I know which I would rather do!
The fact that the stab in to the vein on the back of my hand yesterday was done so much better than the last one. No pain on insertion and no bruise 36 hours afterwards.
The efficiency and expertise of the staff at Airedale on Monday. We are so lucky. My mind flies to the morons who use 'socialism' as a derogatory term and denounce Marxism. They should go back and read a bit of history! The creation of the NHS was the greatest altruistic political advance ever. Apart from taking the burden off the people it has produced the cheapest high quality medical service in the world and we should never forget it!
Later, the juror who sent word he couldn't act as he was judge in the case already and couldn't be judge and juror. I think he had a point!

I was a bit surprised as well. They featured the York Minster fire over 30 years ago as an example of what can be done in recovery. The damage there was less than a third of what Notre Dame has suffered and It's still a work in progress. All the inside has been sorted but it is still having masonry work done on the outside.

We are not alone Ian. Quite a few people who have had experience have said the same thing. You can't just assume that an unlimited budget can work miracles, there are little things like unforeseen problems and work flows to consider. If I was taking a bet.......

A very low flying plane! I was down the field lifting thistles and it just seemed to skim over Bleara and then my neighbour's wind turbine. :laugh5: I think it must have been a Hercules training plane, huge with 100 written on a red panel on the tail. I didn't hear it till it was almost over my head, then it was deafening.

That's a coincidence! I was only thinking this morning that due no doubt to cost cutting the RAF no longer use us for low flying exercises. It was like a war zone at times especially when they first got Tornadoes.
Seeing my friends perk up when they get the answer to 'How are you?' and I tell them about my summer free from appointments. Nice......

Wendy, if it was 4 props, old style, then, yes, it was a `Fat Albert', as the RAF call them, the Hercules. Very agile and and easy at very low level. The pilots loved them but there aren't many about now as new big brothers are coming in.

The growing size of the pothole in the back street. Because it has loose gravel the local cats use it as a litter tray. I shall call my favourite builders and get them to inspect the roof and gutters and patch the hole. No point expecting the council to do it....

Thanks Tiz, it's good to get that confirmed. It was following the contours and dipped into our shallow valley before rising again over the farm above us. I suppose it was at 200ft but it looked lower!

We have had a less invasive aerial event this morning, several hot air balloons passing over the town.

I have been watching them anxiously! Most of them were heading away from us but one or two managed to head in this direction. Lovely to see but they can terrify the ponies so I normally whip them inside when balloons threaten. Things in the air don't usually worry them, their natural predators (plastic bags, pheasants, white lines on roads) are all on the ground, it must be the sudden roar of the burners that does the trick.

They've crept up on us in the past and given us a shock when the burners blasted just above and behind. Like having a mythical dragon hunting you!

How nice it was to get some productive time in the shed, main event was curing the vacuum but nice to make progress again on the cannon. I want to get it finished and then I have a bunch of BET articles in my head.....

The word `mermaid' has been stolen so watch our for other meanings. There's a charity of that name to do with LGBT LINK and it's been criticised for how it's advising parents on dealing with their children.

Me too. I've never seen an episode of Game of Thrones though I see news stories about it all over the place. I know there's supposed to be a lot of violence and sex but I didn't realise how much until I read this in an article about the programme by Ben MacIntyre in The Times recently:
`Sexposition': a scene in which plot explanations are made while couples copulate in the background.

This is a picture of one of a set of wall plates I have. It has some sentimental attraction, being across the road from the Saturday matinee cinema, and close to the birthplace of the dialect writer and poet Ben Brierley, near the historic Carnegie Library, and just about 200yds from where both my parents were born.

I heard it mentioned on the BBC national news yesterday. Not in a good way.

Royal Oak

Seems fairly routine - History

That's a shame. . . .
