Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
See THIS report about 'thundersnow'. I found it when looking for corroboration of a radio report I heard this morning that a satellite has discovered the lowest temperature ever recorded in a thunderstorm, -112C.
The two reports together illustrate the field. The scientists who recorded the temperature say that these exceptional readings are getting more common.

Nice. I always said that if I could have afforded it I'd have gone apprentice to the Marton Blacksmith.....

This is my favourite Sculpture Trail
Just do CTRL+ a couple of times to get the wonderful detail. I think Slaithwate or thereabouts is where the Poet Laureate - Simon Armitage comes from. Perhaps there's something in the water.

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
David.... I am running late this morning and will admit to having given only a cursory glance at the sculpture trail but read one description of the rusty wrought iron gate with barbed wire and thought "What a load of bollocks!".
Could I be right and it's a spoof or does someone in 'Slewit' really think that's sculpture...
The container ship Ever Given has been partially refloated, the bow is free. This is good news for those firms with goods in transit needed for 'Just In Time' systems. Hopefully the stern will be easier.

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
News this morning that the Ever Given is no longer blocking the Suez Canal and normal two way traffic has resumed.
Question is what will the canal company do to try to ensure it doesn't happen again.
Later... Ever heard of Rural Proofing? Have a look at THIS. What a good idea, one of the strategies is to make connection speeds faster in rural communities, many are still on dial up speeds.
However, the investigations to get evidence for the report are all on line so the people in most need are least likely to be able to have their say.

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
See THIS BBC report on the adjustments to guidance for shielding. I got the letter yesterday and commented on it elsewhere. It is eight sides of A4 and I wonder how many people will actually read it.
I think I must be wired up differently than most people, I haven't found shielding difficult at all. As I said last Spring, I suspect I have always leaned towards being anti-social in that I do not like crowded places, going to a pub or a party would be my idea of hell! The only difference between 'normal' activities and shielding has been converting to early doors shopping one day a week at the Co-op and once a week Town Square shop.
I'll be glad when it's over but can't say that my mental health has ever been in any danger. (Well, no more than usual!) I shan't be rushing to do anything different. All I will say is that I'll be glad when I get the second jab..... That will give me a bit more peace of mind. I've got a bit fed up of being constantly reminded that if I get Covid it would most likely kill me!

One thing most people will notice as the country opens up again, is the noise and volume of traffic!

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
The volume of traffic has been with us for quite a while. During the first so called lockdown the reduction was very noticeable after last years cock up and relaxation of the rules creating the second wave it's not so noticeable.

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
Today, we have had cement trucks going down our road every half an hour since before dawn and trucks carrying dirt back past us at the same rate. I am down to my last nerve ending. Too much noise. I want to curl up in a quiet dark space
Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
More trucks early this morning but they have stopped now ( so they should have...all that noise on Good Friday!).
We went for a drive but couldn’t find anything under obvious construction and demanding so much cement, so it remains a mystery.

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
We saw pictures on the news tonight of people crowded on our local beaches. Smiling smugly to ourselves because we go NOWHERE when the tourists crowd our town....we enjoy our pristine beaches when they have all disappeared! Enjoy your Covid folks!
Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
Yesterday we got a dose of Sahara dust in the south of England. All the cars have a coating of it here. I'm waiting to make sure it's finished falling before I wash it off. Late yesterday it was a gloomy sky and the sun looked white, more like the moon. As it got lower in the sky it shone through an increasing path of dust until it became invisible before dropping below the horizon. Spooky!

David Whipp
posted yesterday at 9.23.
Next week's meeting of Barnoldswick Town Council will be re-considering the name of the town.
As many people know, Barnoldswick has the longest place name in the county without a letter repeated (we'll not discuss WHICH county at this point...).
But, nationally, Barnoldswick is out-lettered by Buckfastleigh in Devon, which has 13 letters in its name.
By adding an 'e' and a 'y' our town can be 14 letters wrong - and become the longest name in the country without a repeated letter!
The town council meeting will be streamed live on the YouTube link below.
Our town can be 14 letters WRONG. ??
Sally would be insane to be a member of this council.

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
Of course.
I would suggest Barlickinthewestridingofyorkshire which would not comply with the non repeating letter thing but would be more apt and retain a certain integrity.
David Whipp will post anything at the moment to sprinkle his name around social media. There is an election next month I believe.

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
Sorry Maz but you have got it wrong. For administrative purposes Barnoldswick is in the neighbouring Pendle Borough which is as you say in Lancashire but administrative boundaries cannot extinguish the shire boundaries. This was eventually admitted by Eric Pickles, the Tory minister responsible and the old boundaries were officially endorsed. In the process Barlick was given its own post code BB18 and we can use either Lancs or Yorks in our address. We all actually live in what was the old west Riding of Yorkshire and nothing can alter that. We know that because they tried and failed....
