The Ben Stokes protest against the Sun for re-hashing a family tragedy from many years ago. I have had a look at the story and he is quite right. This was something best left to lie. It was a family tragedy and none of the survivors is culpable in any way. It is not a fit subject for front page news in a national tabloid. Gutter journalism at its worst.

"no longer financially viable"
What a sad end to 768 years of history. Thinking about Stockport Market, same size town, same history and still open. Such a shame.

More activity at the Gisburn Road nursery site. The sliding electric security gate is now functional. I wonder what is going to happen there?

You've almost got a rainbow there. Not the usual multi coloured type but a silver one. I once saw one when I was goose shooting up at Montrose. At about 10pm brilliantly moonlit night a silver rainbow. Geese were flying at 30,000ft with just the odd four bore going off. Total waste of time not to mention nearly getting cut off by the incoming tide. Thankfully the pubs were still open.

"I once saw one when I was goose shooting up at Montrose. "
That's a good line P. 30,000 ft? Bit high? Not many 4 bores about these days... Only one I ever saw was a punt gun.
I've never seen one of them Wendy, I once saw a circular one from the top of a hill in the Lake District, does that count?
What grabbed me this morning is another clear morning with brilliant stars and moon. I like this weather!

What's going on here? You might remember me saying that my old fashioned spike filing system was almost full. Today I was thinking about making a new one when it dawned on me that there was no need as I already had one. The one on the right that holds all me receipts from 1999 to 2010 in date order. Even an old compulsive archivist like me has to admit they are now redundant! So I have binned the lot and as the smaller one on the left (which will go in the store cupboard in the office) contains all the receipts for the last ten years I suspect the other one will see me out!
Isn't it strange how a reasonably intelligent bloke can miss such an obvious solution!

I see that you keep your cathedral of choice receipts which I feel is a bit pointless as they generally represent stuff that has already been consumed, can't take that stuff back for a refund. :extrawink: You could make a lot more room by binning all of those as well.

I choose not to have the receipt printed, unless it is something that has a warranty. There's enough bits of paper that go in my recycling bin already :biggrin2:

....and there is a half a sausage there that needs eating. Is it yours, or Jack's?
No...I can't store receipts like that. Some bits of paper need dealing with, but not Coop dockets!
This stack is more of a validation of life to me, rather than bits of paper that need to be saved.

I agree and it's OCD but there you are. Mind you, I have had at least one matter connected with the debit card resolved by a Co-op receipt.
The sausage is Jack's, he gets a bit off the end when he gets up and the rest when we get back in from our morning walk. All the ready use ones are in the fridge, I cook 12 at once. On most days he gets one with the cooked mince for his tea so the 12 last a week.

When we were holidaying last week at Corfe Castle a pair of these Bell Boeing Osprey VTOL aircraft flew over us. I didn't have time to get a photo but there are plenty in this Wikipedia page: Bell Boeing Osprey There is a lot of regular military activity in that area and we often heard the guns. Didn't bump into any tanks, thank goodness!

I noted the cost, $72million apiece fly away and then maintenance. Funny how money can be found for things like this while a proper health care system is a 'Socialist Nightmare'.

We, Australia, have just had an urgent warning sent out re Netflix. Does England have Netflix?
A phishing scam is happening saying your subscription has been cancelled, if you answer it your bank account is emptied! Check your scams website.

You'd soon know if your Netflix subscription had been cancelled as the access to it just stops. The subscription my son has gives access for up to 5 devices, one of them being my Freesat box. A few weeks ago an on screen message appeared showing the subscription had expired, no emails warning that this would happen if you didn't update your payment details, the service just wasn't available.
The reason was fairly straightforward, the bank card used for regular payment had expired and my son had forgotten to set up the replacement card details.
Any email requests to update payment details are usually a phishing scam, sadly there will always be someone who falls for it.

On the ITV news- covering Harry and Meghan's tour of S. Africa, I just saw a carnival dancing bandmaster with his whole face painted ( gasp ) white. I'm shocked.

Yes - I guess lawyers knew it but I didn't. Quietly satisfying that the obnoxious 'brain on legs' presenter on LBC James O'Brien had never heard it and had to look it up.

I knew what it meant to convey as soon as I heard it because of the context but had never heard it used before. Full marks for good use of language I say. Baroness Hale was so audible and clear in her language it was a pleasure to listen to her. Music to my ears.
Overuse of the word coward in the Commons yesterday, I suspect we will get sick of hearing it in the next few months.....

How comfortable my new working/walking boots are. They have commando soles which I don't really like because they pick up so much muck but they are a sensible choice as we enter winter and bad conditions underfoot. Falls can be a serious matter as you get older.
The news about Trump.
The news that Japan airlines are letting customers know whether they are sitting near babies who might be crying. It happened to me once on a long trip but I told the mother that she wasn't to worry about it, I have been there myself. Evidently some people are enraged by them. They have forgotten what it's like for the mother. A bit of tolerance needed?
On a similar note I was once subjected to expressions of disgust as I picked up Jack crap in the street. I told the young woman (yes it was a woman) that my mother used to do it for me. She had forgotten this evidently!
