Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
No China, just brainwashed into paying high prices!
Mail from Talktalk. The email I rejected yesterday wasn't spam but an offer of a new router and fixed price for 4 years. Normally I wouldn't bother but bearing in mind that nothing is going to get cheaper over the next 4 years because of Brexit etc. I took the offer. Worth a punt I suspect.
Is there a more useless clock in Barlick than this one on the bus shelter in Station Road? It never tells the correct time and at the moment is stopped.
Can you remember the simple electric clock on the front of what was then the Council Office at Post office corner? Far more reliable and almost invariably showed the correct time. Perhaps we ought to do away with the ornate but useless clock on the shelter and go back to some more simple technology!

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
Later.... I can't find it on the web but the BBC reported this morning that a labourer has inherited a 1500 acre estate after DNA tests revealed that he was the natural but secret son of the former aristocratic owner. Was the name Adler?

Adlard-Rogers. He has inherited the Penrose Estate in Cornwall apparently. Found it in the Sun!

If the bus stop clock is useless what about the weather vane that's missing from the top of Steele's Solicitors Fern Lea Ave,/ Albert road? Impressed by the quality of the Centenary Gardens Fern Lea Ave.
Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
Don't lose the clock, just fix it.

Hard to believe, but I heard a news item saying that some teenagers were now unable to tell the time from an analogue device, being so used to using the digital display on their mobile phone.

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
We used a projected digital clock in the exam rooms for the same reason. Invigilators handbook says digital is not as forbearing for some students. Analogue is much easier for visualising time remaining though. Those that wear watches are OK with analogue although watches have to be removed during the exam. Sally is invigilating as I post.

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
It's good to see that the man who is inheriting the Penrose Estate manor house is going to set up a charity to help people in nearby Helston and Porthleven. The estate land is now National Trust and open to the public for walking. It's a beautiful place with a large lake between Helston and the coast. It was once an estuary and ships would sale up to Helston but then the outlet of the estuary became blocked by a shingle bar and a freshwater lake, Loe Pool, was formed. As well as the lake there's lots of farmland and woodland.
This is worth watching...

The Middlesbrough foundry has my best wishes but unless you have a specialised product as a base load you are on a sticky wicket these days. We have the old Ouzledale Foundry at Long Ing which owns and makes Esse cookers.

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
I didn't know about that Tiz. Seems to me like cynical exploitation of parents who are at their wits end and will grab at any straws.
The fact it's voting day and Susan is coming to give me the luxury of a pedicure. She does it so much better than I do....
My young friend Vicky agreeing right away to take me to Airedale on the two days in July when Susan is on holiday. The nicest thing about that is that I know that if I hadn't asked her she would be upset.
Later.... News that the UN have passed a resolution (non-binding) demanding that the UK give up control of the Chagos Islands within six months. The government have said that they won't comply because the island of Diego Garcia is a military base and is essential for fighting terrorism and privacy. What they haven't mentioned is that the US has one of its most important electronic intelligence stations on the island. I think that might be something to do with it and bugger the islanders who were forcibly removed.

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
I'm glad that this subject is being given more attention but it should also be demanding more public loos for everyone.
`Two female loos for every male one, experts recommend' LINK
Another aspect of loos... Having been setting up a new garden we've visited a lot of garden centres recently and I've noticed that they have very clean loos. In contrast, many supermarkets have dirty, smelly loos. I'm surprised that retailers who sell food and should be very switched on to hygiene let their public loos get into such a bad state. Another observation...at one supermarket the public loos were out of action and customers were directed to the staff loos. These were cleaner than the public ones!

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
I exercised my democratic rights this morning and voted. At 07:30 I was the fifth person to vote and the lady said they were all old people 'like me'! The voting process was simple, one cross next to a political party, how they allocate it I have no idea. The ladies seemed surprised when I said that it didn't surprise me and I thought that most people would be using it as a protest vote against the Tories. It will be interesting to see what the turnout is, I suspect it will be about 15% or even lower.

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
Theresa May likely to quit. Now...I have no knowledge of your politics ( I avoid it like the plague), and so I have no political bias ( so you cannot roast me) BUT I have seen the physical changes in this woman as time has gone on. Brexit has taken its toll on her body. I admire her for sticking with it, even if there are no accolades. I can see (as, I say, a total outsider) that the weight of Brexit has taken its toll on her physically -and yet she never refused to get up and keep going. I wish we had people of such political stature in our country.
Please make the stones quite soft and rubbery if you are going to punish my comments....I merely acknowledge her sticking power!

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
Her biggest problem was the "bloody awkward woman" stance which in effect stymied the debate and the solution to Brexit. Her total intransigence to accept a cross party solution and go it alone has led us to the complete impasse in parliament that we have now. She was handed a poison chalice as was stated on here over three years ago, she could have shared it out but chose not to, so to some degree it's of her own making, the sooner she goes the better. Yes it has aged her but she could have made it a lot easier.
