Blimey, this was carrying 4000 vehicles! I wonder how they'll sort that lot?

I think you have embedded the wrong URL in your link Tiz.

Good luck Kev with your new buyer.

Thanks for that, Ian. I've corrected it in my original post and here it is again: LINK

Great news about the buyer, Kev!

Good luck with the new buyer Kev.
Car carrier, I heard the report, what lucky blokes! Those car carriers always look top heavy to me. Too many roll over at the slightest mishap. Same worry about cruise ships...
Bodge, good! Just as I would expect of you.

Lovely trip to Ilkley for shopping and breakfast at Bettie's. My cobbler was impressed with the Lobb shoes and says they will be OK to rebuild as I have looked after them. He pointed out something I didn't know about them, they are Veldtschoen (Veldtschoen construction is a Goodyear welting shoe production method whereby the lining is welted to the insole edge or the insole bridge before the upper is attached. Once the lining has been welted, the upper is placed on top of the welts and double-stitched onto the midsole.) The rebuild will cost £74 but is worth it, they will be good for another 40 years! Yes, I have a boot and shoe fetish!
Susan also told me some home truths about my Helley Hanson waterproof top coat that I bought on sale in Twin Cities over twenty years ago for $40, a bargain. I was frogmarched into Eric Spencer's and was lucky enough to hit on a German Schoffel lightweight waterproof for £140, when I baulked at the price Susan and Mick assured me that it was the best and this was half price! I bought it and like it but my god, prices have moved on and left me far behind!

Suited and booted!

Later.... Hebden Cord is no more so I have had to go elsewhere to complete the transformation by buying a new pair of cotton cord trousers.

Thanks Love. That's what Susan said and the lady in the shop. Perhaps I am getting my style right!
On that note, I see that Mary Portass is now an expert on style. She must be, she's got a slot on BBC....

David, 2,000 acres please! But thanks, that's what I think.
It was wet and windy when I went out for the afternoon walk. The top is 100% waterproof . It has a light hood folded under the collar and at first I had a problem, it kept blowing off but then I found the cunning mechanism built into it to stop this. I also noted that it was made in China....
Tiz, here's something that I think will interest you. It's a video on Youtube, 'The Secrets of Wootz Damascus Steel'. Very high quality and it's the story of how an American bladesmith and his friends cracked the secrets of Saladin's source of ore for the legendary Damascus Steel swords. I think it will hold your attention!

Later... My shirts have arrived and I think they will be fine when washed, thick, 100% cotton and fleecy. Only thing is they are labelled 'dry clean only'. Must be because of the colours, I shall have to be careful! They are by Dunlop, the same as the tyres...

That's the firm that delivered my shirts Kev. Well spotted! ( They specified a time and stuck to it!)
The fact that someone close to me has lost both their dogs on the same day. I say 'lost', they both had to be put down. Heartbreaking, even though we all knew it was the right thing to do. Anyone who can't understand that has never had a close relationship with an animal.

Another conversation on Wednesday concerned one of my Great Grandsons. Evidently there is a toilet training aid for lads that is a plastic ball with a smile face on it which is floated in the toilet and is a point of aim. (I have problems with this about retrieval and the consequences of flushing) This reminded me of something

Image

Some earthenware urinals have an image of a fly on them and over the years I have heard a number of explanations for them. My own opinion is that this filled the same function as the modern ball, it was a point of aim. Perhaps we need to reintroduce it in modern lavatory pans.

My early morning hit of proper coffee! A simple pleasure but one of the highlights of any day.
The full moon in a clear sky, it won't last today but something very majestic about seeing it floating up there. What a wonderful thing is centrifugal force!
One of the nice things about the site is that I can post that and know that it will be understood and agreed with. That's the thing that sets us apart from the run of the mill 'social media' and probably the reason why we have so few regular contributors. This never worries me. When Doc first started the site he told me he wanted it to be different and not the usual sort of site. I think we perhaps succeeded!
Otherwise, hearing evidence that despite the advances that have been made, women are still being subjected to being demeaned at all levels of modern society. Just look at the pensions for one of the higher forms. I've always though that this was a sign of basic insecurity in the men who are the perpetrators.

We had a full moon last night too. I love following Mrs Moon's route in the sky. I always tell her how lovely she looks. Nice to see her in the mornings too.

Our problem Cathy of course is that so often we know it's there but can't see it. I love the way it waxes and wanes, a clear sky with a crescent moon is just as romantic!

If you had been in Graham Towers last night you might have wondered why an old bloke was sat watching TV with a Deerstalker Cap on his head. Many years ago I realised that the reason why an old cap was so comfortable and fitted so well was because it had been wet and dried on your head. Yesterday I washed a cap and a deerstalker, both woollen material but I did them on a quick cold wash. While they were damp I wore them in the house until they were dry and they will be lovely and comfortable.
In days gone by my mother would have warned me against getting a head cold.....

My new cords from Joseph Tuner, made in Yorkshire. I went for them when I found that Hebden Cords were no more. I like them, very good quality cloth and well made. Machine washable as well!
As an antidote to Brexit R4 is doing some very good programmes at the moment. I've been listening to '50 Economic facts that changed our world', fascinating!
The woman having treatment for breast cancer who has successfully swum the Channel 4 times non-stop. I think I just heard the news correctly, there's nothing on the net yet. She has done it in 54 hours I think.... Quite astounding!
Just heard a piece on Today that tickled me. A man at Milford Haven built himself a shed in his garden but was ordered by the planning authority to remove it as it damaged the view of a 12th century building. He added wheels to it so that it is now no longer subject to planning.... I like it! Man with Shed 1, planning 0.
