I have to admit I am not a fan but I love to see the Square being used like this and thousands enjoying themselves over the course of the event. I hope people living in the immediate vicinity are fans......
Just been listening to Claire Balding and 'Ramblings'. THIS is well worth a listen if you're interested in the effects of exposure to fresh air and nature on your health....

This got my attention. My 'History of Craven'. 12" X 10" , 650 pages and weighs in at a shade over 12lbs. In very good condition considering it's 141 years old. Third revised edition and no Latin P!
Only beef was that the courier left it on the front doorstep and I didn't find it until I let Jack out at 20:30!

That's what books should look like, Stanley. Enjoy it!

I've previously related our experiences with plumbers and the story continues. We ended up going to Wickes and using the local business that does all their plumbing work. They spent a week replacing our old bathroom suite, re-tiling, plastering etc and taking out an ancient shower and washbasin from a pokey little bedroom ensuite and converting it into a wardrobe (more clothes space for Mrs Tiz!). The business is very good and, overall, we're pleased with the work. The one downside is that the Italian plumber, Mario, who was with us most of the time didn't understand the importance of finishing and tidying and was surly and argumentative at times. The other plumbers, electrician and plasterer were excellent. I've given the boss a long snagging list and told him to send a different plumber to sort the issues - Mario `finished' at lunchtime on Friday but should have stayed and sorted all the small things and done more tidying.

There's now an enormous pile of of waste on our drive waiting for them to collect tomorrow. As well as the heavy items there's also lots of polystyrene, polythene, cardboard, plywood etc. Mario had just chucked stuff on the pile and I had to do some tidying yesterday to stop the lighter stuff drifting about. At about 6.30 this morning we were woken by a phone call from a neighbour to tell us the waste was blowing away down the street. We had strong, gusty winds (average speed 57mph according to met office). We had to rush out in dressing gowns and slippers and chase the stuff down the street - and you can imagine what it's like trying to collect sheet material in a 57mph wind! When the plumber boss gets in tomorrow morning he'll find a message from an angry man on this answerphone!

That is annoying Tiz. Watch your blood pressure! I wish you a speedy conclusion.
I hate the mess of getting 'things done'. I'm far too busy to have my time wasted like that. (Anyway I'll be dead soon so bugger the carpet!)
Ronny O'Sullivan scored three centuries at Preston last night to win the player's Championship and give him a record 1,000 century breaks in first class snooker. Magic!

It certainly `exercised' us, Maz! I hope they collect the stuff today because we're forecast 40 to 50 mph winds for much of the rest of the week, starting tonight. Once they start lifting stuff off the top of the pile the rest of the light material is going to blow everywhere.

What grabbed my attention this morning is a PM from Wendy. She has managed to put me in touch with a distant relative via Ancestry. It's a long story but we aren't subscribed to Ancestry now so Wendy contacted the relative for me and got her email address. Thank you, Wendy!

I've got more old things already than I can handle Bodge! (That includes myself)
The wind that has sprung up during the night. It will be a bit noisy up at Wendy's.......
Later. Cardinal Pell in Oz has been sentenced to 6 years in gaol with no parole review before 3 years.
The Governor of California uses his executive powers and suspends the death penalty for the 700 inmates on death row. The last execution was at San Quentin in 2006 so he's really only regularising the current position.

Pell got 12yrs, reduced to 6yrs, he will serve 3yrs 8 months. ( mainly because of his age and health) It was one of those moments when most people stopped what they were doing and watched the live tv broadcast.

Thanks for the clarification Cathy. I see he is appealing and still retains his rank in the church until that is decided on. As I understand it he is still in denial.....
A visit by David Nelson of Gledstone. I gave him the original print of Marton Hall I found and he looked at my Whitaker and said I had got a bargain. Nice!
Later. A knock on the front door. Nobody there, I think the gusty wild is at just the right angle to lift the door knocker and drop it!

Leaving aside the complete breakdown of our Parliamentary system.....
The peace and tranquillity that can be gained from doing what you have to do and settling down to read a good book with the wind rattling the door knocker and your mate snoring gently in a chair, the loudest noise in the house. And yes, I do realise how lucky I am in this house, it's the quietest I have ever lived in all my life, must do something about that noisy tick from the clock........
The absence of Tiz who I think is under stress from workmen and faulty computer peripherals. If you read this Peter, my commiserations, I hope it all gets sorted soon and you can get your life back!
I think about Ian as well and the annoying fault he has on his telephone line.... It would bug the hell out of me!
The news that at least 40 people have been killed in a shooting attack on two mosques in Christchurch NZ. Initial reports suggest that it was the work of Right Wing extremists at least one of whom is Australian. At least 3 suspects are in custody....

Later, the death toll in NZ has risen to 49, 4 in custody and one charged with murder.
Maz was saying this morning that I looked angry on a 1976 pic. I saw a young lad drop a can on the floor as I was coming down Co-operative Street. I put my angry face on and told him to pick it up and bin it. It must still work, he did it....

Thanks for your concern, Stanley. We're holding up but all this and Brexit too is definitely stressful. The plumbers and other trades were here for five days. The plumbing business seems good but we got the bad apple in the barrel as our main man. On the Friday lunchtime he said he'd finished and disappeared. When we had a chance to check the work closely we ended up with a snagging list of 16 issues, some of it bad workmanship and some of simply failing to finish the work. I emailed the list to their office and left a message on the answerphone. Three of their men turned up on the Monday and took a close look. With their professional eyes they found more snags! It seems the plumber had been OK but he's `gone rogue'. They were shocked and dismayed - I've never seen plumbers looking so depressed. They promised everything will be sorted for us. The boss was away and so we agreed to wait until next week when he comes back so he can see for himself all the problems - I think it's also because then he'll have the evidence to sack the man. At least the rest of them, including the boss, seem to be a good lot and I'm confident we'll get everything done up to scratch. The work done by the others can't be faulted, including the plasterer and electrician. But I felt so sorry for the other plumbers. They could have lost the Wickes contract if we'd been bloody-minded...

We can all do without hassle like that Peter. I do hope it all gets sorted quickly.....
The global wake-up call on the activities of Far Right organisations. We have all noted this trend towards what is euphemistically called Populism, this is cover for some very disturbing trends and is massaged at a very high level by those who see political advantage in it. A very slippery slope!

The death toll in Christchurch has risen to 50, they found another body in the mosque.
The lousy weather yesterday, I don't think it stopped raining all day. I can't remember seeing so much standing water on the Green and in Valley Gardens ever.
