Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?
Son (and dog) coming for tea. Son heads off on a camping trip tomorrow with girlfriend and another couple. So we have fur-face staying with us for the next fortnight.
So I'm cooking a full chook, with veg packed around it in my big cast iron pot. I shall need my truss to remove it from the stove.
A slurp of gravy to serve.

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?
Get David to lift it out for you...... I love veggies when they have been cooked like that..... You've given me an idea for Sunday's cook in!
I had the last of the sausage and veggies for dinner and tea and St Augur on oatcakes for a top up with an apple for pudding. Butcher's day today...... I think a small chicken is on the list!

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?
It was delicious Stanley...Potatoes, Carrot, quartered onion, pumpkin, Broccoli, Sprouts and the Chicken ( with Gravy). We all filled our boots. I heated the cast iron pot for 10 mins before adding the food, and put an inch of Chicken Stock in to heat. Then had it on a low setting for over 2 hours ( closer to two and a half as we got chatting and left it), turning the Chicken half way through. It just fell off the bone.
Easy Peasy cooking.

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?
Mine had to be done on stove top. Still without an oven at this point. I am getting quite inventive with what is available to me though. (My problem being hubby's heavy workload and time free to go and choose kitchen appliances. It will happen, we just have to be patient.)

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?
I had a real hankering for Lasagne....so I made one...and have put it in a foil container. I can cook it later in the toaster oven that we take in the van.

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?
You're being very adaptable Maz!
I had Scotch egg and peas with some of the stuffing I made with the gravy from the chicken. At teatime I had a cold pork pie and nibbles, not very hungry.... Plenty of veggies cooked and a roast chicken in the fridge. I pushed an onion up the chicken's bum, why is that so satisfying? Is it just me?

Easy to make lasagne in the microwave. I've never done it any other way.

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?
I'm glad your chickens are still alive, China. (She who must be coming home soon will be pleased about that).
I am in a mood for Chicken Curry tonight.
Son's dog likes to lie in strategic places in the kitchen, such as against the fridge door or directly below the food prep area. She likes to be the first to know if food is being prepared. (You can't sneak anything from the pantry or fridge without that dog knowing. It is easier to deny yourself food than attempt to outwit her)

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?
Had the legs and wings of the chicken for dinner and the rest of the meat on two oven bottoms with stuffing for tea. I grilled 4 sausage and popped them in the slow cooker with the last of the veggies, that'll see me through the day!

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?
The sausage and veggies were good and that took care of dinner and tea. I had 6 small oatcakes with vintage cheddar for afters. Butcher's day today and I have some spuds that need using up, I bought too many last week!

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?
Steak pudding and mushy peas for dinner. I mentioned yesterday the potato glut so I peeled three small ones, cut them into wedges, parboiled them and then deep fried them in the new dripping. They were lovely with salt and vinegar.....

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?
I fried bacon with cabbage and that together with the veggies, cabbage, broccoli and carrots and that together with some of the veggie water has filled the slow cooker. I had a pork pie and some of the bacon and veggie mixture for dinner and the same for tea with some parboiled chunky chips in the new dripping. No afters needed....

Small bowl of straight veggies and bacon for dinner. For tea I added some chunky parboiled chips and a pork and apple burger deep fried with them. Only two spuds left.......

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?
Same as yesterday, the last of the spuds at teatime. No afters apart from some peanuts and an apple. I have extended the rest of the veggies and cabbage with baked beans and frozen peas. I shall grill six sausages to give it some protein.
