Chicken and veggies for breakfast, lunch and tea.
I was intrigued by green cauliflowers in Chaudrey's yesterday and bought one of them. Named Romanesco I think.

I've had one a long time ago. They're very conical shaped too as I recall, and very nice.

Where did you get that quote from David?

Barlick Raj was as good as ever and they now have a policy that you cant can take your own drink if you wish, they just have a £2.50 corkage charge but it still works out cheaper if you are a wine drinker. Sally took a Chardonnay, I had my usual Kingfisher beer from the bar.

Sally had a fish dish with onion fried rice. I had a house special, Chicken Shahi Kerrella which is cooked with peppers onions and chillies, served with a Rogan sauce and house special rice which has egg, peas and herbs mixed. Very tasty. :good:

I will shortly have some stewing steak in the slow cooker for tonight.

I had a Scotch Egg and baked beans for breakfast. Straight veggies for light lunch and tea. The green cauli is good and a bit more resistant to cooking than the white, it perhaps has a stronger flavour as well.

Decided to wait until Wednesday for the Barlic Raj buffet, went for a carvery lunch at Steeton Hall Hotel instead. It's good value for less than a tenner each.
Dropped into Skipton Aldi on the way back for a few supplies.

I just made some soup on a whim.

Two small onions three sticks of celery and two teaspoons of vegetable bouillon powder plus a pinch of dried sage.

Chop all roughly then boil up for a while, then blitz it and add some milk to get the right soupy consistency, and a glug of single cream till it looks right.

It was Ok - but oddly, if it had been a blind tasting - I'd have sworn it was mushroom soup. Strange.

Which reminded me that I've got some mushrooms in the fridge, so the next appearance may actually be Cream of Mushroom soup. :laugh5:

Community sharing in force around here. Richard one of our neighbours brought Sally some field mushrooms from his early morning walk today. Exchanged for a bag of pears from our tree.

I will be having baby new potatoes with bacon, egg and our own tomatoes for tea. We have a slight surplus of milk so I have used half a pint for a milk loaf now on it second rise in its tin. Another pint will be used for the custard for a pear crumble for afters. Oven will be on for the bread so why not have a pudding.

Kev telling us that leccy will soon be 52p per kWh and if an electric oven is say 3kW or even more - makes you think a bit. Academic really since my oven isn't in action at the moment. I've got the high temperature adhesive to fix the seal and the door, but I might just wait a while.

David, I hide from calculations like that. If I worked it out I think the energy to roast a chicken would cost more than the chicken itself!

I have some spare marrowfat peas in the fridge so I have lifted one of my home made steak pies out of the freezer to go with them for tea. I think we might have a bit of red cabbage as well. :extrawink:

Freezer related activity yesterday was a defrost as I have finished my mutton this week and will be asking Stuart for a refill.
Three meals of Mutton and veggies kept me fuelled up for the day.
