WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?
Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?
Beef stew was great last night.
Tonight Jan is threatening to put a crust on the remainder.
I wait with baited breath...

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?
As long as she uses suet Mick! Have a look at this....
Dorothy Hartley's recipe for Sea Pie (I got the name wrong Maz.) Used to be cooked on fishing boats at sea as once put together it could be left cooking slowly until needed. The suet crust is an optional extra if you have a close fitting lid but could be a useful filler and the excess left after cutting to shape popped in for dumplings before putting the lid in. Cook slowly for as long as you like! Look for Dorothy's book, Food in England.
(Must get some suet in.....)
I had the Breast of lamb stew and veggies X two for breakfast and tea.

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?
It's not easy here Mick, Atora has gone vegetarian but I can get it off my butcher.
I had the Breast of lamb stew and veggies X two for breakfast and tea. It's reached its peak and is superb.

Not exclusively Stanley, Beef Atora is still widely available at other cathedrals of choice, I got some the other day from Aldi.

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?
It will be home made meat and potato pie for me tonight from the stewing steak batch I made yesterday. Had a portion with chunky chips and peas last night. I will make the pie large enough to give me a portion for dinner tomorrow. Any surplus meat will go in the freezer for another day.

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?
I had the last of the mutton and veggies X two for breakfast and tea. I had to extend the small helpings with some of the chicken wing casserole. I tested the new deep fat fryer using rape seed oil (it isn't suitable for dripping). I fried scallops and they were fine but not as coloured and flavoured as they would have been in dripping!

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?
Sirloin with garlic king prawns, mozzarella sticks (Aldi ready made), chestnut mushrooms, peas and a baked camembert (to dip stuff in) for tea last night washed down with a South African Shiraz (briefly discussed on the wine thread). A bit different and we thoroughly enjoyed at all.
Had turkey, stuffing and pigs in blankets in a crusty wholemeal baguette with a pot of gravy, at the Edisford Bridge pub, for lunch today. Prawns, avocado, watercress, rocket and spinach, tomatoes and coleslaw in the fridge for tea.

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?
Today's tip. If you float a garlic bulb on the stew like this when it's cooked you can squeeze the cooked bulbs out of each case, dead easy and quick. Much easier than the traditional way.

Re: WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?
Garlic cloves squeezed out.... The stew will be ready for later today.
I had veggies for breakfast, half a helping of fish chips and peas for lunch because Susan and Mick brought a mate to see me.... (and fish and chips as a bonus.)
Then for tea, the other half of the fish and chips and a small pork pie.
