We pay homage to the national dish 'Fish and Chips'. Remember Cameron taking President Xi to a a pub in Oxfordshire to try them?

In my experience I've paid as little as 1/3d (7p) when I was at school. I read it's a lot more expensive now. I think from The Bald Foody Guy in Barrow in Furness it's about £7 - £8 now . Perhaps I'm out of touch, but that seems prohibitive especially for a family. In recent years I found that they give you far too many chips at the chippy, and I get indigestion so bad that I've removed them from the repertoire entirely.

I read the takeaway menus that come through my door and the reaction is usually - How much?! That applies to Pizzas and Curries. A portion of boiled rice is £2.95 for example. I can get a 10 kilo sack for about £12 - lasts me months. years

Memory lane - When the lads were younger we used to take Grandma to Palma Cafe amazingly it's still there and if the price list is current, still quite reasonable. I'd have the steak pudding though.

Indulge me (again).

Fish, small chips and peas (for P), fish, spam fritter and peas, for me, was £17 from Kelbrook chippy for yesterday's tea.

I do the same David. I think the last one that grabbed me was £9 for a Domino pizza. I can't afford those prices even if I wanted the food.
Yesterday I didn't cook my chicken, that's this morning. But I cooked my veggies and they are in the fridge. So I had a Scotch Egg for breakfast and tea, with baked beans in the morning and veggie in the evening.
(Fresh chicken, 2 Scotch eggs and a pound of hot and spicy wings, delivered to my door by Browns was £11.)

I looked at the menu for the place round the corner, and find that two (bog) standard curries (chicken or lamb) with plain boiled rice would cost £11 per person. So £22 for a very basic takeaway for two- or more with a decent fancy rice. I don't think so. With just a bit of planning I could do better for about a fiver, and you'd get half a chicken each with mine.

Also it has puzzled me for a long time- second only to the Big Bang and Climate Change - how the price for the same chicken or lamb dish, on the same menu, is identical. One is probably the cheapest meat on the market, and the other is perhaps the dearest.

David, when I mentioned that to a mate of mine but on the subject of rabbits he asked me if I had ever compared a skinned cat to a rabbit. :biggrin2:

I'm a bit puzzled, I can't find any recent entries for this topic'
Yesterday I just had a Scotch Egg for breakfast as we were booked for lunch at the Pick Hill pub. I had sea bass and salad and a cheese board to follow. When I got home I didn't have my normal tea, just an apple and a pear with some nuts to follow.

You tease me with bread again...... I am being a good boy and sticking with my chicken and veggies which is as near carb free as I can manage. No complaints about the taste, I am getting quite good at cooking veg! (Lots to be said for roasted onions and peppers....)

Just saw this advertised on TV.

ZENB Yellow pea pasta

I looked on the ZENB website - strong on PR but weak on how much it actually costs.

"At ZENB, it is our vision to develop a larger wellness lifestyle community for mindful consumers""

I suspect there may be incidental consequences of eating a quantity of pasta made entirely from yellow peas.

Caveat emptor.

I had chicken and veggies X two for breakfast and tea and fell off the low carb wagon at lunchtime in Foulridge with fish and chips, the lowest carb item on their menu....

Where did you dine in Foulridge?

Just seen it on another post. The Wharf is a nice place to eat, not been for a while but have had some very nice salads there. I'm sure salads contain considerably less carbohydrates than fish and chips though, a portion of fish and chips would put me over my daily carb intake :biggrin2:

Our Jack is coming round for tea tonight. I will turn the remainder of the lamb into a Kleftico. I have all the ingredients required including a fresh lemon. I have just realised though that I missed getting the Feta cheese from Aldi, Doh! No worries other establishments are available for that. Our Pear tree is in full production, (already had three baskets full) so Sally will produce a pear crumble for afters (our Jack loves a crumble). I will do custard for it as we have a surplus of milk.

I had a chicken pie on its own as I had to pick Sally up just after 5pm from Skipton and then had an early meeting to attend in Brierfield.

Something with pork sausages tonight.
