Fish cake, green cabbage and carrots for dinner. The last of the veggies extended with frozen mixed veggies with fish cake for tea. Butcher's day today, I foresee Steak puddings and as a protest a cheaper cut that was denigrated in another topic. :biggrin2:
Later, I bought a full breast of lamb and will cook it a la Dorothy Hartley.... It will be stuffed.

A steak pudding on its own for dinner. (I never need much even after a 14 hour fast) Tea was a meat pie on top of stuffing left over from the Breast of Lamb with frozen mixed veggie and the last of the baby plum tomatoes.

The breast of lamb gave me six slices, so lamb and veggies for dinner and tea, both with a ladle of gravy from the new mutton stew.
It's taken a long while but I have managed to cure my habit of overcooking veggies! Some of us are slow learners...

The last of the veggies, split in two, with the new mutton and veggie stew served for both dinner and tea.

I extended the mutton and veggies with more frozen mixed veggies and cooked a green cabbage. That did me very nicely for dinner and tea.

They are very small Turkish Breads ( :laugh5: if that is any consolation). Just big enough to hold the filling together...

The mutton and veggies just did for dinner and tea yesterday. The fridge is clear, ready for a steak and kidney pie fest.... I do like a clear up once a week. I can't understand these fridges you see permanently packed full of half finished dishes!

Which fridges are those Stanley? We had Feta in ours, Garlic in the jar and Lemons in the bowl. I had defrosted a portion of diced Lamb that I had previously batch cooked in the slow cooker a couple of weeks ago. I already had one portion when first cooked, two further frozen for later. I thought I would have a go at a throw together Kleftico which is my favourite Greek dish.

I went on town and got a large vine tomato and a nice red waxy potato from the veg shop then set about the construction. Lamb in previously thickened gravy in the bottom of the pot, I peeled and cut the potato into six large wedges and par boiled them for about 5 minutes then added them to the pot along with the tomato which was just quartered, three cloves of roughly chopped Garlic, zest and juice of a Lemon then a large helping of dried Oragano from our spice collection. It all went into an earthenware pot with a lid, top of pot sealed with foil before putting on the lid. I shoved it in the oven at 1pm on about number 2 on the gas. Took it out about 5pm and added six cubes of Feta then shoved it back in for another half hour.

Half of it into a bowl and I have to say it was heaven! I could have been in any number of taverns or restaurants previously sampled on many Greek Islands. I reckon I have got the recipe just about bob on. It would benefit from a good bunch of fresh Organo and in Greece the meat is normally on the bone. Having said that for 10 - 15 minutes prep my version will be repeated again and probably again. :biggrin2:

I have a portion saved off in a smaller pot which I will have tomorrow with some kind of crusty bread which is how it is served on the islands. We are out for tea tonight.

Watch any TV programme on how to shop....Then you'll see fridges full of left-overs.
Had a pork pie and veggies for dinner. Tea was a 'healthy pizza'. a foil container with chicken in the bottom instead of crust and then the usual Pizza toppings, I covered with a layer of sweet baby plum tomatoes and it was good.

' Tea ' was an unexpected spontaneous invitation next door. As usual a good experience. The poet's strong on cheeses but she rashly had bought truffle flavoured. Still didn't like it.
Nice evening though.

Steak pudding, peas and tomato and onion for dinner. I was too tired to bother at teatime so just had a small pork pie with HP sauce.

Dinner was a three egg omelette with veggies (very rich because as well as butter I put some cream that was left over in it.) Tea was a cod fish cake and veggies.
I had forgotten my tomato and onion! I have given it a long slow boil this morning and will grill sausages later. I have to do Jack's and so I might as well do some Cumberlands while the grill is hot!

Jack and Jemma are coming for tea and I'm in the process of constructing a chicken pie. I have the sautéed leeks and onion, carrot, potato and browned and cooked chicken in a pan in the fridge. Just have the cream sauce to to go over the filling to make and the pastry. We will have it with sweetcorn.

Dinner was the last of the tomato and onion, some frozen peas and a small pork pie. For tea I roasted a small helping of Sausage meat wrapped in bacon with some sort of sauce in the centre, I had this with frozen peas and for a bit of crunch, some cut up pickled gherkins.

Just popped out to the Apple and Plum shop, quickly - between the Middle Park and the Cheveley Park. Cam Valley Orchards.

Not a good year - there were no plums at all, and a very poor crop of apples. Someone was speaking to the boss as I arrived, and he said they had frosts early in the season, which did for the plums, and there were just enough apples for the shop - not enough for juicing. He was buying them in for juice.

I wait each year for their Cox's which are usually exceptional, but I'll be having these stewed with custard. Never done that before. Can we blame climate change?

They were unlucky, I think on the whole the growers have had a good year.
I cooked veggies. Kale , carrots and Cauliflower(69p). Mashed the carrots with a drop of cream and added the kale and cauli. Dinner was a steak pudding with veggies and tea was a small pork pie with them as well.
Lovely and dead simple!
