I couldn't come at a fried egg on a currant cake from any direction...my brain just says NO.

I got two nice Sea Bream fillets from the fish stall on Saturday. For dinner I cooked one in foil with lemon juice and butter and had it with my veggies. Same for tea with ice cream and nuts for afters. The fish makes a lovely light meal and very good for me I'm sure!

We had a busy day, running about all over the place. At times we had to divide and conquer, so hubby dropped me at the shops whilst he popped in to give his young grandson a birthday gift. I walked past a bakery selling "low sugar fruit bread", so bought and stashed a loaf in my bag. The loaf then spent about 5 hours in the car as we went about our busy day and then made the two hour drive home. I was all prepared for dinner though, having made a Veg Soup yesterday as I knew we would arrive home tired. About 2 hours after tea, I dragged this poor battered fruit bread out of my bag. We have just had a couple of toasted slices...and I must declare it quite delicious for a low sugar fruit bread. We were both quite delighted with it. More for breakfast I think!!!

Sounds good Maz! Right up my street but.......
My last veggie cookings have ended up a bit liquid so I cooked carrots, a swede, parsnips and cabbage. I mashed the first three and dropped the cooked cabbage into it and mixed in with a bit of olive oil. Better, a bit more body to it. Then I had scotch egg and veggies X two for dinner and tea.

Nature has its own way of punishing fools -the much enjoyed fruit bread has gone straight through me like a freight train. I had 2 slices last night and 2 for breakfast. The rest of the loaf might go in the bin ( I was thinking of making a bread and butter pudding out of it)

Here is another tale of "live and learn". Whilst shopping in the frozen food I noticed frozen Soy Beans ( good for you...right? Source of Protein...right?) tried them tonight and threw them in with the Peas. They look like Green Beans with bigger bumps inside. Explained to Febby that we were trying something new tonight ( got that slightly troubled look back).
Why do they leave them in their pods? The pods are totally inedible ...stringy...and come apart into stringy bits you could stuff a horse-hair sofa with. But the "bean" parts inside are delicious, so you have to be slightly un-lady-like and suck the little beasties out of the inedible pod. For the rest of the frozen product, I shall thaw them and pop the sweet bits out, then add them to peas. But I shan't buy them again, as most of the weight you pay for is in the horse-hair stuffing of the pod.

Well, I defrosted a big handful of the Soy Beans in their pods today, then popped the lovely beans out ( have to be careful as the pop all over the kitchen :laugh5: ). Then I added them to an Oven Rice/Veg Dish and they went into the oven for half hour. We had that with Crumbed Chicken Breast. Very nice indeed with fresh Lemon drizzled over it.
My Oven Rice contains loads of Veg and less than a third of a cup of dry Rice. And we never eat the whole lot...it does 2 meals for us so might have what is left with Sausages tomorrow.

Bought from the new Aldi supermarket in Barlick. I'm usually a bit wary of things like this (they never taste as expected) but like the taste of this :good:

That looks different Kev.....
I had two big onions that needed eating so I sweated them down with olive oil, added a tin of chopped tomatoes and grilled some sausage and then cut them into bite sized chunks. The whole lot into the slow cooker and it went well with the veggies X two for dinner and tea.

Great minds think alike. I did exactly the same, onions, oven cooked sausages, tin of chopped tomatoes, I added a tin of baked beans, frozen peas and frozen sliced peppers and a pork stock cube. Enough for tea, a portion in the fridge for today and one in the freezer for a rainy or lazy day.

I always use fresh peppers ( be they red, green or yellow) and I have never heard of a "pork" stock cube...
Mind you, we buy most things in their fresh form, and I am sometimes quite oblivious to buying the same produce frozen/dried/or whatever.
Only stock cubes I can find here are Beef, Chicken or Vegetable!

Knorr make a full range of stock cubes, it's just like a beef stock cube but pork based, they make chicken, ham, vegetable and fish variants as well, oh and I think they do a Chinese spice one. I use fresh peppers if we have them but quite honestly in a stew type dish you cant tell the difference. I always add them last so they still have a bit of crunch.

In nutritional terms frozen vegetables are just as good as fresh ones Cathy, same goes for tinned tomatoes. Many chefs prefer them to fresh and in most cases all are cheaper.
I had the sausage and veggies for dinner. Tea was fried battered cod fillet with peas and chips made with sweet potato. No afters apart from a 20g block of dark chocolate and an apple.

Just half a bowl of sausage and veggies for dinner. I had another cod fillet with sweet potato chips and veggies from the slow cooker for tea, no chocolate and a couple of small apples for afters. No incentive to eat a lot at the moment!

I have no appetite in Summer...I've been making posts to that affect for years. Just can't be bothered with food in the extreme heat. I can guzzle litres of water though...
And I have a huge glass that I take to bed at night full of water - hubby refers to it as a "vase"
