Did the purple carrots have the same effect on your wee as beetroots do ?
I think carrots were originally purple , I found a carrot museum website here. carrot museum

Valentines nights tea is going to be little individual heart shaped homemade pizzas with salad , raspberry jelly (made with frozen allotment raspberries) and I made some cupcakes with hearts on the top.Any excuse to have and experiment and do something special.

And in answer to your question...no...didn't notice any wee changes...but I don't with beetroot either...and I eat that regularly. Tis Asparagus that most noticeably changes urine.

What a lot of thoughtful trouble to go to for Valentine's Day. Haven't done anything like that for ages, but did make a Chantilly Heart shaped cake a few years back for son and ( then) girlfriend. Think it was Black Forest type cake, with lots of cream and cherries.

Hubby and I don't celebrate Valentine's Day, but he did buy me a box of Chocolates on the weekend ( those sea shell things) because he knows I love them and they were going out dirt cheap!
Lemon Chicken tonight for dinner. Have just been checking I have all the ingredients. I serve it with my 'Friday Night Oven Rice' which is a dish I often put together to use up every last veg in the fridge on Friday nights prior to veg shopping on Saturday mornings.

Good Luck with the house move BB. Is it a bigger place...more room?
( I love packing to move. Great time for a clean out. And I love wrapping things and putting them in boxes and labeling everything and being oh so organized.)

Yeh house is bigger and my fella is moving in with us. It has a garage for all his toys and a small garden becasue we didn't need a big garden having the allotments.
I have had a really good sort out. I am not into the commercial side of Valentines day,I have made him a card. I just fancied being creative with the tea tomorrow.
I like the sound of your friday night oven rice, I do a similar thing in a Paella, I use all the odds and sods out of the fridge.

One helping of oxtail left. Funny how it improves as you get down the pan. What is it about oxtail that makes such good gravy? Kidney as well.

We had some neck-end of lamb in the freezer so I made a lamb stew & dumplings, just about to tuck into now.

I forgot, I always eat it all except the dumplings which I save till last then I pour a bit of syrup on them. Mmmmm... you should try it.

The freezer is empty and at last but we had a weird tea that tasted fab.We had fish fingers a bit of smoked salmon, mushy peas , mash, steamed carrots, celery and sweetcorn.

BB, sounds like one of these gourmet meals you see chefs cooking in competitions.
Moh, Economy is the watchword these days. The politicians ignore the fact that while they witter on about inflation falling the price of staple foods has rocketed. Things like flour, tea, coffee, butter etc.. I've cut back my morning coffee by half and am not feeling deprived, probably good for me, two points could be seen as excessive. Had the last of the oxtail for lunch yesterday, didn't have any breakfast as I didn't feel hungry. It wasn't until about 3pm I realised I hadn't done anything about tea so I got a frozen haggis out, boiled it for about an hour and had a nice haggis butty for tea. I shall get a swede today and have haggis and neaps for tea.

Dad used to do that to my dumplings (those made from suet, flour etc before there are cries from the kind hearted). I don't think it was part of mother's upbringing but it was his and therefore mine. Mindyou, it stopped as time progressed, the last I can remember I would have been about 7.

Mum had to turn the oil fired AGA off yesterday evening, so that it would be cool enough for the service engineer to work on today........
That means it won't be hot enough for her to cook on tonight ....YIPPEE !
On these occasions I am allowed to cook on my "Professional " (heavy cast iron) two ring gas burner...
She's getting Stir Fry Chicken with properly cooked Basmati tonight , whether she likes it or not !

We had a paella/rissotto with allsorts of bits of veg in and a chorizo sausage in it too. I think I will make leek and potato soup tomorrow with the last of the allotment leeks. And a home made loaf too.

Chicken breasts marinated in a mexican sauce - not sure what to serve with them yet, maybe an idea will come to me later.

Haggis and neaps for tea. I shall start a roast stew today with four good Tamworth chops. I'll be sorry when I've finished that little piggy!
