A likely story......
Dinner yesterday was the remaining one and a half rollmop herrings with some cheese cubes and two boiled eggs. I steamed a black pudding and a haggis during the afternoon, part of emptying the freezer ready for my next half sheep which comes next week, the freezer is defrosting as I write. So tea was the black pudding plus some of the haggis with mustard and tomato ketchup. No nuts or afters apart from two apples.

Dinner was the remainder of the haggis plus three fried eggs. Tea was steak pudding and peas. No afters except for two small apples.

Yesterday was a cooking day. I roasted a chicken in cider and used the gravy to make supercharged stuffing. I cooked veggies, cauliflower, cabbage, swede and carrots and buttered them. Dinner and tea were the same, a scotch egg , stuffing and veggies, cold at dinnertime and hot at tea time. No afters apart from an apple. The chicken is in the fridge and comes on song today!

Chicken meat, stuffing and veggies X two for dinner and tea, both cold. No afters except an apple. Today I shall raise the temperature of the veggies to boiling to ensure that they aren't deteriorating on the hob!

Same as yesterday but with the addition of ice cream as a great after tea. No apple!

The last of the chicken and stuffing with peas X two for dinner and tea. About 2/3 of a bowl each time. Pudding after tea was ice cream and strawberries again. Nuts and an apple for afters!

John Clayton brought me two punnets of small sweet home grown tomatoes yesterday. I grilled four Cumberland sausages and had two with grilled tomatoes and eggs for dinner. I cooked all the rest with onions, garlic (sorry Maz!) and vinegar and Worcestershire Sauce and made a thick sauce. I had the remaining two sausages with the sauce for tea, only a half bowl! Then ice cream and strawberries with nuts and an apple for afters.

I had the rest of the chicken meat from half a small BBQ chicken with mixed veggies, tomato and onion for dinner. On Saturdays we have a fish van from Fleetwood in the Town Square and I got a nice sea bass fillet, cooked it in foil with butter and had that for tea with mixed veggies. 20g of dark chocolate with orange for a treat and an apple.

I cooked broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage. Had haslet, cheese, two boiled eggs (done in the cooking veggies) and veggies for dinner. Tea was sweet herring pickle, two more boiled eggs and cold veggies. 20G of chocolate for a treat and an apple.
I love pickled and smoked fish. Many years ago at Ethel's parent's home in New Jersey I had a Jewish breakfast of pickled fish and bagels with cream cheese. There was herring pickle and lox and a white fish that was so lovely I was encouraged to eat the lot. I found out later it was pickled sturgeon and incredibly expensive......

I had the last of the haslet with onion and tomato and veggies for dinner. Tea was the rest of the sweet herring pickle with veggies and the last of the onion and tomato. I love pickled herring and of course it's a good source of long chain Omega3 fat, essential to health. I wish we could get smoked eels, I love them as well. There are few things nicer that eel fresh from the smoker on a butty, the last I had was at Dordrecht in the Netherlands, the first of the new seasons IJsselmeer eels were just coming in and a stall was selling them in butties. Pure heaven!

Just completed a big pot of Chicken and Veg Soup...took a cup of it up for hubby to try ( happily hunched over his computer once more.)
He gave it "The Scabby Dog" Test ( meaning if it didn't kill him, it wouldn't harm a scabby dog).
Apparently, it was delicious!

Cooked smoked mackerel in foil with butter and lemon juice and had it with peas for dinner. Same for tea but with added chorizo sausage. Nuts and an apple for afters.

It's late - again.

I read recently that of all the foods that are falling in popularity, tripe is the number one. I noticed tonight that it is still available in Morrisons - it was in small trays, next to the pigs' trotters. Despite my name and my 'broughtings up' I've never tasted it.

Should I remedy this before it's too late or not bother? It looked unattractive, but I feel a duty to try it. I ate jellied eels recently on the same basis - eatable, but I won't be going back for more. (Stanley's smoked eels sound good, but I missed them when I lived in Germany, though I'm a big fan of pickled herrings).

I remember my stepfather used to eat it in summer - cold with vinegar on, and some salad - he was a furnace foreman and came home very hot.

Any advice?

Thanks Stanley. It is (was) a Roast Veg, Fetta and Parmesan Cheese Tart, ready for the oven.
It was delicious.
Hubby made the pastry from a TREX recipe ( though we used butter). The pastry was really good. He had to step in and rub the butter into the flour, because I had cut my finger and was trying to stem the blood at that point. It so happened that he had finished work for the day, and found me looking for a bandaid whilst thumb was wrapped in tissues. He did the manly thing and popped the apron on. ( so he can do it :laugh5: I was amazed)
PS...all that cheese melted into a lovely oozy coating..
