Interesting Sue, that's the second scam purporting to originate from OGFB. Tripps reports a similar trend in his post in the computers thread. I have just noticed that Catgate has had the same email. It could be that the membership list has been hijacked. I will bring this up in the admin thread. There may be some holes that need to be plugged.

I must be lucky or more likely Thunderbird has an efficient filter. I don't get these scams at all. If you're getting them perhaps you need to check whether you are using your email programme's spam filter?

It came as a private message on OGFB, I just deleted it...

Did we all get the same e-mail? I only opened it as it claimed to be a message from the Webmaster at One Guy. Deleted of course. I'm not that gullible.

This really should not have happened because it looked like a private message sent from the Webmaster (Doc himself). So we viewed it, as you would, if its from Doc. If Stanley had got the message, then something would be done immediatly, wouldn't it not. Its not the first time this has happened. That religious rubbish should never come through to members on the site. :surprised:

That is the nature of a data harvester attack, webmaster@ is easy to assimilate and is not exclusive to this site, you cannot action anything until there is evidence of attack. In the event, I banned the perpetrator shortly after discovery and doing the necessary tracing to source etc.

Can you please explain what you mean about this not being the first time? To my knowledge we have not had a similar incident on this platform. We have had various advertising trolls, site spammers and nuisance posters but no mail address harvesting attack, so please be sure of your facts before making spurious claims to that effect.

I doubt if you have any idea of the number of trolls, spammers and salubrious other attacks that we (the admins and moderators) deal with on a daily basis. If such characters would kindly send me advanced notice of their intentions it would make the daily housekeeping a lot easier.

Point taken Bodge, its the first time it's happened on here though. We are getting quite a bit of attention at the moment from China and the Indian sub continent. Many of the scams, particularly the ones with advertising links in are from commercial enterprises that will spread your details via contextual spamming if you pay for the service. I get all kinds of similar service offers along with the normal kind of SEO offerings in via email at work in my part time job. You can buy into any IT based service that you want if you have the money.

Yes, it did happen once before the same nut case "bible basher" sent me a message a year or more back. I didn't bother too much about it that time, thinking it was a one off. It did happen panbiker and it was the old OGFB site. I wouldn't have mentioned it if it hadn't. Never mind, these things happen.

I run my own website and know about these people. They are a pest. I have had four-letter word messages, spam, trolls, adverts about viagra and condoms, you name it. I just delete them and carry on. These idiots get through somehow, no matter how you try to stop them. They find a way.
