I have a 'reserve' email account with a mob called (I just liked the name) - and I've not been able to access it since yesterday,for the same reason. I think some browsers let you over ride this if you wish. Makes you think that if they can't get right something as simple as that, why should I trust them with my information.

Fairly common practice and will be in the T&C's. Taking room up on the servers so redundant accounts have to go.

I lost my Orange number and pay-as-you-go account a couple of months ago but at least whoever runs the account nowadays had the decency to send me a cheque for the full amount I was in credit. I last used it in 2012.

I have bitten the bullet and ordered a Motorola g7 power sim free for £130 from John Lewis after checking with Kev that this was about the right price.
I haven't the faintest idea how to set it up so expect a call for help in the near future!

I have a Motorola g something, and it's fine. next door have one each - ditto. I'm not so friendly to John Lewis after an incident, but the price seems to be about right, and their two year warranty is a big plus.

Just dive in with the phone - use the play store and the world's your lobster. I found it's quite intuitive, and easy to delete anything you later decide you don't want.

If the phone comes up with a demand for you to register, or pay money, or give personal details, location etc just press `Cancel' and you'll find that it often goes ahead and gives you what you wanted anyway! If it still won't do it without you submitting to the demand then it's a case of `How much do I want this'. You'll probably find that 99.9% of what's on the phone won't interest you!

You should be able to download directly from the WhatsApp official site. As you already have it on another device you'll just need the details that you used to set it up originally.

WhatsApp doesn't require a sim card to work, you just connect the phone to your wifi, install the app and log into it.

Just a thought (bit late now) why didn't you just leave the older version of WhatsApp on the phone?

That was my thought when Stanley first said he couldn't download the new version, but after further thought I assumed that the old version might no longer be secure if there are no updates.
