Don't think Pluggy is ignoring us, he's mailed me to say he is locked out..... He's trying to contact that man who helped us last time but it's weekend. He's in the US so there is the added problem of the time zone. Thing is he's trying.

I got in this morning at the first attempt, like I did yesterday at 4.00pm. I did plenty of posting after I got in yesterday, with no problems. I almost always log out after a session and then log in next time - that's another of those left-over habits from spending tea breaks with computer security specialists in the 1990s!....I've just posted the above then clicked on the Edit Post button and here I am again, no problem (if it posts this OK!)....Yes, it did. :extrawink: Thanks for your efforts to sort it, Panbiker and Pluggy.

I'm so pleased to see you Peter! It was getting a bit lonely on here! Post away, I shall keep quiet for a while. (A sleep after my dinner seems like a good idea!)

Early communications with Mark Hamill are hinting there isn't much wrong with phpbb itself but its a host performance issue. The database can't keep up is what I'm getting.

Its improving. Getting into the Admin control panel is still touch and go. Theory - 1and1 with the 'server upgrade' spread its resources too thinly over too many clients. Lots of other sites have been having problems and they've recanted and put less clients on a server. Mr Hamill when he's back after the weekend has some ideas to improve the performance and hopefully get the ACP behaving.

Speaking from a position of deep ignorance - but surely if a paid for 'service provider' is not providing a service - the first action should be to tell them and ask them to fix it?

I doubt they are overwhelmed by the volume of traffic this site generates.

I think proving that it was a server problem and not local would be a minefield..... I'm content to let Pluggy and Ian do what they think fit.
I hope Tizer gets lucky today!

The site has started playing up for me at last. Logged out when I don't want to be, or expect it, and a warning that the site is not secure when I log in - that didn't used to happen.

I still think we should complain to the site host.

When exactly was this Tripps. Our friendly American Mark has been working on the site during the afternoon so there may well have been one or two perceived blips during the work.

He has finished the current tranche of work and the site is now running on the latest version, our minimal installed mods (post editor) has been upgraded and the site is now running on a different database engine. We have also upgraded to a higher level of page loading from the hosts than we were on before.

Can anyone who reads this please provide feedback of any errors they come across. Please give the time and nature of any errors.

Just for the record regarding any redress from the hosts, they have over 90,000,000 customers, we are a very small fish in a very large pond.

The hosting company has sort of had a revamp through a merger. So its sort of a different game now.

I was locked out yesterday afternoon when I tried to post Bob's Bit but as there was a red warning on the banner I assumed it was Mark doing his stuff. Perfectly normal so far this morning. Thanks to all concerned and particularly to Mark, he truly is an expert!
On another matter. I got an update for the updater from Canonical yesterday and this morning the updater removed a whole bunch of Linux Generic updates, a lot of data! However, logged back in as usual and all seems to be well. Complicated stuff these programmes!
Later, after a full posting session. No problems encountered at all, perfectly normal. There is something different about the page preservation but I can't identify what it is. The only other thing I have noted is that the security icon on the masthead is saying that parts of the page are not secure. I thought this was something we had cured a while back. All told it looks like a cure.
