Nothing worked Kev, it was simply dead despite having power on the plug. As for all the other tests, they are covered by the fact that the old one is fine. I shall not let them give me the run around!

I did it on the phone, took 45 minutes but they have accepted it is dead and are sending me a new one.

I notice that the problem of red underling on anything inside single quotation marks has gone away. I wonder whether Ubuntu users recent major updates to both the OS and Firefox has anything to do with it.

I do like DHL! Email from them to tell me that the router will be delivered between 12:15 and 13:15 today.
Takes all the guesswork out of the delivery. I can get my sleep in as normal.

The delivery driver will probably tell you that you can also define a "safe place" on their website in the tracker if you are not going to be in. DHL also do the door to door pick up and deliver service at a very reasonable rate. No need to cart heavy parcels to the Post Office. Up to 20kg is around a tenner.

I have a splace designated thank you. The new router is installed and up and running. Haven't done the TV yet.

Do you use a cable or power line adaptors Stanley? One or the other the preferred method of connecting your TV for on demand.

If I remember rightly they're powerlines Ian.

Should work without problem then when reconnected. DHCP operates by default on the Talk Talk routers so the TV and router will just renegotiate and allocate a spare IP address from the pool for the connection.

Powerlines. Unfortunately the TV is doing what it did last time, not connecting. I have on demand via the satellite decoder so powerlines are OK but the TV has me baffled. Are you around at any time Kev? It looks as though I need your help again.

I had another problem, my phone wasn't talking to the router. I found the setting and put the password in and it didn't work. But then I remembered something you taught me once, I entered the password in capitals! Problem solved....
But I can't remember how we cured the TV last time I changed router.

Is it just the satellite box that uses powerlines or does the TV use the wifi?

Interesting, from the routers point of view the TV is only a client on the network. DHCP on the router is there to dynamically issue IP addresses to any client devices either hard wired to the ports or within range of the WiFi. The TV must not be as smart as advertised it should work when reconnected. You may have an IP clash on the network, (two devices with the same address), TV may be hanging on to it's old address. Clear that out then reconnect and it should renegotiate a new one from the pool.

ipconfig /all or the equivalent command on the Linux platform will show all connections and their addresses on the local network.

It wouldn't 'forget' the password for the old router but it's been replaced with a new one Ian...

Aye but Stanley says he has reconnected his phone by putting the WiFi password in in capitals which would suggest that the WiFi is running on default settings. If that's the case the TV should work if it's retained the settings. It will be much easier when you are on site Kev

A few minutes later..... You are all permitted to have a good laugh at me. I went through the setting procedure but this time entered the password in capitals (Just like it is written on the card that comes with the router. By the way a big improvement, the card is mounted on the router and you can just slip it out and take it to the TV with you.)
Result? Immediate stable connection.
