Mr. Vernon Wood of Barnoldswick, b 1924 (my Brother in Law). Vernon passed away peacefully in his sleep in Cravenside Care Home yesterday, almost 11 months after the death of his wife Lilian (my Sister). Vernon has been a part of my life since 1943 and married my Sister in 1949. He served his time as a joiner for Tom Parker, and went on to work as a site manager for several large firms. Over the years he oversaw the construction of many major projects, The additional floor on what is now West Craven School, the extensions to Moss Shed which included the loading bays for Silentnight, What was the Shepard public house in Colne, the new Skipton Co-op, the test track for British Leyland near Leyland, and a similar project in Lincolnshire, several additions for Rolls Royce at Bankfield and Ghyll Brow to name just a few. His last employment was for BB Kirk of Skipton, during which I had the pleasure of working alongside of him when an update of safety work was carried out at Victoria Hospital in Blackpool. He made me my first sledge for Christmas in 1946, this was a magnificent sledge which was put to very good use in 1947, five long and two feet wide. He and my Sister leave three Children, Vivien Meath, Valerie Ashworth and Gillian Stodart, Grandchildren Kendra, Darren, Alix, Averil and Joseph plus several Great Grandchildren that I have sadly lost track of. Vernon was a very good Man, fairly strict and forthright, but as honest as the day is long. He was the last survivor of his generation in our Family and will be well remembered. I used to see my Sister and he about twice a month, something that I now miss. Both are now at rest and peace.

Apparently Bewes told the press that Bolam's wife was pregnant. Bolam saw this as a breach of trust and never had anything more to do with him for 40 years. As you say Comrade very sad. Nolic

I noted the death of Charles Manson and was strangely angered. How come a beast like that had survived so long when good people were dropping like flies? 'God moves in a mysterious way', you can say that again!

Two deaths reported this morning, Christine Keeler, she of the Profumo affair and Johnny Hallyday the popular French singer.
Rightly or wrongly, I always regarded Keeler as more sinned against than sinning.....

Sad news this morning. My old friend John Capstick died peacefully on Friday at his daughter's house. You know you are getting old when you realise that you have known four generations of a family. I knew his father Sid and his mother when they farmed Ash Tree at Swinden Moor Head where I picked their milk up 50 years ago......

With some sadness I must announce the demise of my Wileyfox 'smart' phone. It suffered a total software collapse, from which I was unable to revive it. Eventually got it back to 'safe mode', and factory settings, but that took two hours, and was not stable. Euthanasia was the only option.

I've got a Motorola G5 now - very satisfied with it. Kept the Fox of course who knows what advances may be made in the future - it may one day be revivable.

So sad, Tripps.
( silent tears shed).
My hubby has had such a bad run with mobile phones lately. He lost one to falling over, while washing his thongs, knee deep at the beach ( phone in pocket). Bought exactly the same phone so he knew his way round it. That had problems so he sent it off for fixing under warranty. They claim he didn't send the battery ( he did), but it came back without one.( old battery for the same model no good as it had been in the sea.) Meanwhile he bought a cheap phone to get by but that phone couldn't get emails. Finally he bought a third phone, of the same type that drowned in the ocean.
So far, so good.
But I feel my shoulders tensing and my mouth tightening into a button every time he moans about his phone.
I have never had a problem with my own phone...

This obituary is about 7 months late but I only found out about it because a past colleague sent me an email mentioning it. The scientist who raised the concerns about trans fats in our diet died last June at the age of 102... LINK

The singer, Vic Damone, has died aged 89. He became a friend of Frank Sinatra. Vic had a lovely smooth singing voice.
