That's sad. He never looked too healthy! I remember watching him for the first time performing Paradise by the Dashboard Light on the Old Grey Whistle Test, it was quite an experience!

I saw that too, a great performance. Recently he hadn't been too well at all, seen using a stick and a wheelchair to get around. Also unconfirmed stories of a stroke.

Marilyn is going into decline over the death of Meatloaf - Michael Lee Adam.
🙁
If I remember correctly, Meatloaf was a trained opera singer.

RIP Barry. This is one of his first jokes told on-stage...
A man driving down a country lane runs over a cockerel.
He goes to the farmhouse and knocks on the door.
A woman opens it and he says: "I appear to have killed your cockerel. I'd like to replace him.'
She replies: "Please yourself, the hens are round the back."'

No reaction - you've got better taste than me.

I heard on the radio that he seems to have been universally liked, and ran the programme for twenty five years. At it's peak, it had an audience of 12 million viewers. It was also said that he had a ritual of eating an Eccles cake before the start of each show.

I like that.

Later after shopping. I saw Lancashire Eccles Cakes and bought them because you had put them in mind. (Even though they were £2.20.)

Portillo visited the factory on one of his railway journeys. I think it was actually in Eccles. I remember being amazed at how many layers were in the pastry. Seems they now come from Hyde Road, Ardwick in Manchester. That rings a bell - I've walked into town a few times late at night, from the bus garage there.

PS Who meeds a memory when you've got Google - Not actually Eccles - Ardwick.

The actor Peter Bowles has died.

I think I'd describe him as a 'performer' rather than an 'actor'.

For me, he was Peter Bowles in all he did. I see no mention in the tributes of what I think was his best performance, as Major Yeates in The 'Irish RM' which would be my top ten TV programmes of all time.
