I heard that he was in dock Ian. Sorry to hear he's dead, a good man and a fine snooker player.

See THIS Obituary for Ennio Morricone: Oscar-winning Italian film composer who has died aged 91. Good age, I liked his music especially (but not exclusively) his connections with spaghetti westerns.

Just heard the news Ian. 773 playing appearances for Leeds United. Doubtful if anyone will ever beat that.

In the 60s he lived a few doors down from some friends of ours in Leeds, just an ordinary semi on an ordinary suburban street. A different world.

A lot of them did Wendy, even though their earnings were relatively high most did not seek or play at the world of fame like now. Except perhaps George Best.

Footballers in those days were capped at £20 a week, Bob Lord the Burnley football chairman was instrumental in getting it removed. It's been 55 years since Football League clubs abolished the £20 maximum wage cap.

55 years, that would be 1965. I remember the year we married, 1971, we were at Harry Potts seniors house in Burnley, visiting, and he and my Dad and I think Harry junior was there too, were discussing the pay of one of their players as £40 per week and how high it was. In those days I earned £10 per week as a Medical Laboratory technician at the bacteriology lab of Withington Hospital in S Manchester. We had just had a pay rise to bring us in line with nurses!

In 1953 I was doing a farming apprenticeship on £1 a week, all found. (And I had to put 10/- a week in the POSB.)
