Just heard that the former Chief Rabbis, Jonathan Sacks has died of cancer aged only 72. A great loss to Judaism in the UK. He was a good man.

Oh dear, yes, I liked him, it was always worth reading his articles when he wrote for The Times. He'll be missed.

I liked him too. He was one of the few contributors to the Radio 4 'Thought for the Day' that was worth listening to.

It's just been announced that Peter Sutcliffe has died. Not sure whether I am glad or not, he couldn't suffer too long as far as I am concerned. Sorry about that, I know it isn't fashionable.

Des O'Connor RIP
He did make me laugh, especially his interaction with Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-54950051
I copied this from the Newsthump website, very apt.

Des O’Connor has been greeted in heaven by an old friend.

The entertainer has died at the age of 88, leaving behind an amazing body of work in television and music as well as a legendary, friendly rivalry with Morecambe and Wise.
“He’s coming is he? Are the snipers ready?” joked Eric Morecambe, waiting at the Pearly Gates for his old friend.
“I heard that,” beamed O’Connor, marching up to his old friend, slapping him on the shoulders and then his cheeks, “I would say it’s nice to see you here, Eric, but it does mean I’ve lost a bet.”
“Well you should be used to losing money after refunding all of those concert audiences,” retorted Morecambe, doing his utmost not to laugh.
Stifling his own giggle, O’Connor replied, “I refunded one of YOUR audiences once. That’s two pounds forty I’ll never see again.”
Finally out of retorts, the two legends burst out laughing and embraced.
Throwing an arm around his old friend, Eric Morecambe said, “Come on, Ern’s got the kettle on.”
“Oh that’ll suit him…he ditched the toupee then?” joked O’Connor.
“Well he couldn’t bring it with him, it counts as livestock,” said Morecambe, and the two men roared with laughter as they walked into the light together.

Just heard That Barbara Windsor has died.

I met Gerry and his band after a show they did at one of our local community centres. It was a show that my then sister-in-law took us to, and she managed to get us all together in the back kitchen. She was a frequent visitor of the Cavern Club and over the years had met many of the performers there. She was so excited and they had lots to talk about.

Is it true that Gerry and his family always had free passage on the Mersey Ferry, because of their song Ferry Across The Mersey?
