Our elderly french neighbour Roland and his new lady friend Nicole are coming for lunch today. Lunch tends to be the big meal of the day so I shall be preparing and cooking this morning and dosing this afternoon after they leave :laugh5:

OOps dosing of course, a dose of red wine or two.! The meal went well. Nicole is new to the scene, Roland's wife died 18months ago, her disabled husband died about the same time , she has given Roland a new lease of life, his garden is tidier, he smiles alot and goes out more. She is teaching him the accordion. Which isn’t bad for 87 year old. A lovely lady who is easy to talk to even with our mediocre french

Sounds idyllic.....
Not sure what I will be doing today beyond dealing with the Jack situation..... Best course is that I can bring him home and nurse him myself.

Have a look at 'What Attracted your Attention' Sue. Jack was badly attacked yesterday afternoon and is in the vets at Colne with a punctured trachea.

Sue, at my age, after regular tetanus boosters all my life I don't need any more I am bullet proof but thanks for mentioning it.
I have spoken to the vets, they are doing the rounds as I write and will ring me back shortly. He's OK so far and has had a good night...... I'm sweating on the top line....

You know what I will be doing....... I think I'm doing all the right things and Jack is making steady progress, what I want to see now is him having a drink but I keep reminding myself that dogs are desert animals......

Today I have mostly been enjoying my 68th birthday, nothing special but Colin surprised me by booking a table up at the Black Lane Ends for tea. How time flies. :surprised:

Isn't he just. Guilt played a part ....no card, no present and an earlier refusal to consider going out .....it must have played on his mind whilst I was out yesterday morning.
A couple of good, hearty salads on the specials menu at the pub, I had the Salmon Nicoise and Col had the Chicken & Bacon, followed by a cheese board to share.

Happy Birthday Wendy. That 1950 was a good vintage it produced at least two fine ladies :good:

We are planning on firing up the pizza oven today, if we can cope with the heat which reached 35 at its peak yesterday. We want to do another little party for the neighbours sometime soon, and as everyone seems to love pizza that will be the theme so a trial run is required. Other than that its shopping, Bob’s cousin arrives on Monday for about 10 days, somewhat longer than her usual visit of a week. We shall have to plan a few trips out.

The heat yesterday saw us retreat indoors. I washed the bedding, ironed , sewed and started a jigsaw, and Bob started the plumbing in the new shower room having finished the walls and electrics earlier in the week. In the evening we had aperitifs with Roland and Nicole at Nicoles house. She is a lovely friendly lady. Her grand daughter is studying German, Spanish and English at University and is on a year out in Margate, which she loves.

Today is a bit of cleaning ready for Pams arrival, lunch out and a trip to a local rural fete. This morning we will have a chat to Erin via skype, well Facetime which is apples own version of skype. Its still very hot 32-34 degrees so we will have to be careful out and about this afternoon as the last few days we have stayed inside after about noon.

Hope Jack is soon better Stanley

Another day of 34degrees expected. The temperatures fall drastically on Wednesday to a comfortable mid 20s, where it remains for the next week. A little rain on Saturday and Tuesday.

Pam arrives on the 1.30 flight to Nantes from Birmingham. It was very hot and uncomfortable cleaning the bedroom for her yesterday, its the room Bob has been working in, on an ensuite so it was rather dusty and smelt of plaster and paint. I gave it a good hoover and after polishing the furniture the building aromas dissipated.

I picked 10 cooking apples yesterday and the first of our blackberries and made a blackberry and apple crumble for tea tonight. The blackberries are looking good but are still just a little firm. The raspberries were a complete failure as were the strawberries.

Been stayin in Morpeth for a bit of exploring around the north east. Had a nice day out at Cragside today https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/cragside
Fascinating place, went to Alwnick as well but chose not to pay the £16 each to get into the castle.
