I know nothing about finance and investments to be honest it bores me, I am happy to pay someone to do it for me. They don’t get that much a year from me, but I do from the investments made with my capital. Perhaps we are lucky I have no complaints.

We did over 9 miles yesteday, we stopped once to consume some water and a piece of Christmas cake, then had lunch at the Summit Pub on the Rochdale canal. We walked the 1.8 miles back to Littleborough along the canal and caught the bus to Rochdale and then another home. We were out just 6 hours . It was a good day. Although cold it was fine walking and there was no wind.

Today is not planned. I will see what happens. I have writing to do too for the writing group on thursday.

Meeting my friend in Nanning and travelling onwards to Guangzhou again to collect our new passports. Looking forward to a pleasant evening in Guangzhou where a few jars will be consumed, he drinks 3 bottles to my one, but at 40 pence a pint who cares?

I cooked yesterday. I converted the last of a joint of ham into a ham and mushroom pie. Then I made two cheese and onion pasties with the left over pastry. I made about 5 litres of soup with one of our remaining three pumpkins, which are beginning to go beyond their shelf life. Finally I wrote a piece for my writing group on Thursday.

This morning we are off for a swim and afterwards I have a sewing lesson.i just have a couple of fittings to do on my toile then I can cut out my denim jacket and start sewing. This evening a few of us are meeting for an art class. We still have no teacher but have deided to meet up and just have a session painting. I am not keen as I already have three art classes this week. Its just the way the dates fall this week.

I got back in the shed and started another cannon. I looked up the present day price of the bar of brass stock I was using, thick end of £200! I am a wealthy man!

Its an all day art workshop today with artist Jeremy Ford today, followed by yoga this evening. I am also slowly unpicking the toile of my jacket so I have the individual pattern pieces to cut out out the jacket in denim. Hopefully I will get it cut out over the next few days, if not it will be in a week or so as we are off to Langdale next week for the first of our two annual visits.

I'm off to Ilkley to have lunch with a group of people I was at school with. Col's going to take me into Skipton and I will make use of my bus pass to get to Ilkley. We are eating at a Turkish restaurant called The Olive Branch and there are loads of low carb options on the menu!

I've eaten at the Olive Tree chain over in Alwoodley, the food was very good. We took advantage of their weekday lunchtime offer so it was very reasonable.

I can remember when the waiting list for a meal at the Olive Tree was like putting your child's name down for a top public school!
I shall be considering woodwork.... I need to make a carriage for the bow chaser. Into the drawing office I think.

You are thinking of the Box Tree in Ilkley Stanley, The Olive Branch is a very different sort of place! My trip didn't quite go to plan, we set off in very good time for me to catch the bus in Skipton but once we got to Carleton the road was closed because of an accident and the diversion took us all the way to Cononley, where we had a long wait at the crossing. Knowing that Skipton might be jog jammed because of roadworks on Swadford Street, Colin very kindly drove me to Ilkley.
I was there early and had to pay a visit to The Grove Bookshop where I couldn't help but buy a couple of books!! I got a lift back in a fancy little sports car with one of my friends who lives in Gargrave.

Today I'll be sheltering from the weather as much as possible!!

Off to the Lakes today, it looks like we shall have the same weather as every year, rain, wind and at the end of the week, snow. Friends are staying with us for the the middle 3 days and we may go and visit others later in the week. A change of scenery especially to the Lakes is always refreshing

You're right Wendy, my memory let me down......
I seem to remember one of their chefs leaving once and going to Kildwick Hall while he looked for a new job. Their bookings soared but unfortunately many were cancelled when the chef moved on.....
Maureen and I once went to the Spread Eagle at Settle for a meal and it was superb. We booked for the following week and fought our way through the snow to get there. It turned out that our meal had been cooked by another top flight chef moving on to a new job. The day we went was his last day there but unfortunately the snow stopped him going to work. The head waiter cooked for us and whilst it was OK, it wasn't like our previous meal!

You could be right about the snow Sue......
It looks as though we might have a dry day so I shall get the chop saw set up in the back yard and cut the wood for my gun carriage. Sawdust in the shed is a bugger, more trouble than it is worth! If left on polished metal surfaces it can be corrosive as well, rust is not allowed in my shed! One of my great advantages is the fact that it is part of the house and gets the benefit of central heating.....
