Morning

We had the king of thunderstorms yesterdays, hail, lashing rain , lightening etc. The rest of the day was intermittent rain and sun and cold. More of the same today though it is sunny now. In the afternoon I popped to the optician and ordered new glasses with my updated lens prescription and arranged to leave the old ones for the replacement of the scratched lenses when the new glasses come.

On the way back I called at the garden section of B&M to buy some large garden canes for my bean and sweet pea wigwams although I will struggle to find space in the garden for the latter. I have managed to make a rather clever bean planter out of the upturned base of our old water butt and a large plant pot. Whilst at B&M In bought some more sweet corn and squash seeds too. Germination is being very poor this year. Even though I bought John Innes potting compost I am not happy with it. It seems to hold the water rather too well which means, that even in the greenhouse, the soil is cold and water logged in this unseasonably cooler weather. Many of the seeds seem to have rotted rather than germinated so I have taken to putting seed trays in the airing cupboard to help. I put my electric germinators away when we went away thinking that the seeds in the greenhouse would have come up last week . I do have one or two successes, a glut of chard and abundant flowers on my autumn planting broad beans in pots in a sunny spot of the garden . This veggie growing, like sewing, is not always a cheap option to buying :laugh5: Bring back my veggie plots in France !

We have few plans for the day, though Bob is down at the park doing some boiler testing . I had hoped to go with him to do a bit of garden tidying round the track, their little station and the club hut but I think the chance of rain is too high. I will probably sew instead. I have a bit of embroidery to do for my course. Just a demonstration of stitch types which then has to be photographed and uploaded to my assessment. That will complete assessment 4. Pilates and yoga this evening.

Have a good day all

I've had two hours in the shed and put some mistakes right and caused some others! Never mind, overall it was productive.

This isn't very exciting but it's progress. I have nearly retrieved my big mistake.... :biggrin2:

I shall be chasing my cylinder and will be glad when I get back to proper progress but a lot of fiddling work to do and from events over the last few days I think I might be getting old! Damp at the moment but I shall try for an early walk round the block.

Morning

A productive day yesterday before the rain hit with a vengeance in the afternoon. I pottered in the garden, completing my wigwams for runner beans and sweet peas. I planted one pot of sweet peas to see how they cope and if they are OK will plant the rest in a few days. I constructed my cage round the raspberries that are now growing. Its a temporary structure with canes and several rows of string. The idea is to try and stop them flopping over as they grow, it can get quite windy up here. I shall have to go and buy some more canes for my tomatoes as where they are in the greenhouse it will be difficult to use strings for all of them, though whilst writing that sentence my problem solving brain had a flash of inspiration. I managed to get the garden hoed and the washing dried .

Meanwhile Bob was building the new BBQ in the conservatory . It was supposed to take 45 minutes but took several hours. He did have some time away from it as he went to the model engineers in the afternoon to do some boiler testing with some of the members, it was an outside job and they got very wet! Whilst he was getting wet I cut out some summer cropped trousers for the fine weather that seems to be a long tome off yet, and did the embroidery sample to complete assessment 4 on my course.

This morning Bob has u3a zoom photography, and I shall sew . This afternoon Wendy and Keith are popping over for a chat.

Have a good day, stay dry if you can

As usual a civilised day Sue. I've been fighting the Gremlins here in the shed but am making quiet progress. What is becoming obvious to me is that I am getting old!

I shall start tomorrow with a bit of careful 7BA tapping. :biggrin2:

Morning

A bright start to the day but showers forecast this afternoon. I had a lovely morning sewing yesterday and only have the hems to do on my cropped trousers. I have fabric for another pair and have ordered some more for a third pair. The afternoon was chatting and socialising with Wendy and Keith.

This morning is pilates and finish my trousers, and this afternoon a trip out to Barnoldswick

I've had an hour in the shed and half an hour in the Co-op. Here's the result of the hour in the shed, another small step forward.

Give me a wave if you come through Foulridge :biggrin2:

Taking P to Bradford Donor Centre then dropping off a card and present to youngest grandaughter, she's 10. We had a blanket printed with 10 pictures of her from each year of her life so far. Hopefully she'll like it, she loves the one we got for my son and daughter-in-law's 10th wedding anniversary.

I've had my second shopping expedition of the day, to the Town Square for veggies. I've put my order in with Stuart for the meat and so that's my day's contribution to the local economy!

Morning

We had a very pleasant afternoon chatting with Stanley at Barlick yesterday, and on our return home ( via Clitheroe and Majestic wine for for zoom wine appreciation on Saturday) a nice slice of Barlick maltbread and a cup of tea. Having chatted all afternoon and being out of practice :laugh5: we were both thirsty . Later we did a lateral flow test which of course was negative. We are doing them once a week as routine, no point doing it twice as we are in contact with few people and the ones we see we ‘ know where they have been’ as they say . We meant to do the test before our trip but forgot to do it before lunch, not that Stanley was at risk of anything other than earache from our chatter. However he managed to out do us with his anecdotes, many of Rochdale :biggrin2:

This morning is dance exercise, followed by zoom art. Lacking any inspiration what so ever and having spent so much time gardening I have done no art so I think it will just be a chat and then log out. Hopefully it will remain dry today ( the expected rain yesterday was very little) as I would like to plant the rest of my sweet peas, but we are also going to have a walk down to the bank in Rochdale and do a short circular. Its over a week since we managed a walk of any length. My first batch of sweet peas seem to have taken with one beginning to climb up the cane support. I think I may plant my chard outside too which is already out growing its pot that I put the plants in at the weekend .

So thats today, have a good one

I've spent the morning improving the quality of my work so far and making the gland nut for the cylinder.

There are improvements all round. We need more of the same!

So nice to see that the “Sue and Stanley Mutual Admiration Society” is doing well.
I sometimes wonder why OG exists. I think some of you should just email each other with warm fuzzy messages each day and let the OG website die. I can think of many members who have dropped off. Why? Want to know my thoughts? ( probably not)

Yes it was Stanley, and Bob is very grateful for all the stuff you gave him for his model engineering club, well worth the drive over to collect them . It was a good drive back through Clitheroe, it still took an hour but more scenic and less traffic and traffic lights

Can't do nothing about slippery perches. Although I think we do our best to give support and the best medical advice that's available.

Maz, I think you underestimate how difficult it is keeping a site going with daily information that is interesting and that people can relate to.
Not everyone who reads these sites wants to make a reply of any depth. I can say from experience of some of the 'membership' Facebook sites that the writer can post a subject that they think may be only mildly interesting, more as a filler than anything else, and it will take off with 20 -30 good replies. While others just whither on the vine and join the Dodo into extinction. One of the difficulties is that sites that confine themselves to local interests soon run out of material there's a limit to how many pub gatherings with everyone holding their half full glasses with grins on their faces that a sit can tolerate.

Maz, don't take this as a complaint many of us would wish that people made replies irrespective of whether they are main stream or not. I'm a 'one foot in the grave' man as you may have noticed.

Plaques...this IS a site that confines itself to local interests AND tends to exclude others. It hasn’t moved with the times. It is not going anywhere. It is an ageing population that is not attracting anyone. ( local politics, local knowledge, local weather, daily tasks, daily eating/meals, etc)
Has been pretty boring for ages.
I am OUT of here!
( you can do the Mexican wave now...shall I start it off? 🤣)
