Wow - where would we be without such valuable people. whose salaries I'd guess would be nearer to £100k than the national median of about £26k. All doing vital work though.

I heard on the radio during the night, that some or other 'Professor' has said that UK doesn't need farmers or fisherman at all, as they are such a small part of the overall economy, and with our national wealth, we can buy in anything we need from abroad.

The fishing industry has found itself at the heart of the debate over Brexit and the prime minister's draft deal. But how did a sector which accounts for about 0.1% of the UK's economy become such a big issue?

These are small percentages but still worth £B's to the economy. Fishing exports may increase if we grab all the fishing grounds. With farming we shall soon see what happens to prices if we don't have the cheap labour to harvest the crops. On the other hand we could eat the odd coronavirus free tourist.

Lincolnshire will close down without the EU harvesting migrants who follow the crops around. Our "native" workers wont do the work, apparently it's too hard and not enough pay. It's better than the job you don't have, (or maybe not)! £5.00 or more for a few spuds or carrots is on the horizon.

In 1911 he was a green grocer and lived at Calf Hall Road, would that be the address of his shop too

Mrs Brown in the shop on Crow Row, (Longfield Lane) in 1975. Now a private residence. Not sure yet, at the moment I can't see anything getting in the way of an hour in the shed.

Am I right that Rainhill road is near the centre. Robert widdup lived at number 78 in 1939

It's Rainhall Road Sue and yes, quite near the centre. It was often miswritten as Rainhill. Here it is on Google Street View, it's the leftmost property.

Looked it up, definitely Slater in the shop on Crow Row. (Sometimes described in census as on Castle View.)



An hour and a half for this one small brass flange... Flying blind almost when it comes to small work like this!

Must be a different shop he had then. On the 1911 census, it says he lived on Calf hall road and owned a greengrocers shop. He was still living there years later.the shop could have been anywhere I suppose.

Out for lunch with my sewing friends today. Pilates and yoga tonight.we meet for lunch at the local garden centre so I shall have a browse of the seed packets. I usually start planting seeds in the greenhouse about mid March.

I think I have finished my research on John Widdup's siblings so should be able to finish that chapter now. I found a little titbit in one newspaper yesterday. J R Widdup played cricket for Barnoldswick in May 1888. That would be just before he went to the Mechanics institute in the September and got fired up with politics.

Possibly the shop in Walmsgate which is now a butchers, Bell's ? This was a greengrocers for many years and was where Jack Savage started in the business.
No shed this morning. I have just spent an hour sorting a box of postcards out for Tiz. Funny thing is that some are what he and Janet sent to me.....

The butchers closed three or four years ago and the shop has now been turned back to residential use.

This afternoon is our cancer support meeting at our Green Street centre starting around 2pm.
