I have just had a go and if you go into the archive site and find one of your posts with your avatar you can right click it and save the animated gif.

Put is somewhere safe on your machine and you should then be able to link this into your profile via the browse option on the avatar link.

Would be better if it was uploaded onto the site though, don't know whether doc can add to the avatar gallery or not or if it would work from the picture gallery. All the other regulars seem to be there Wendy, trust you to be different!

Sounds like a reasonable plan Bodge. Today I shall be remembering that Doc is still working hard for us and send him a tenner towards the costs. This platform is cheaper but he's still out of pocket so I want to be an official donor. Let's start how we mean to go on!

I was puzzled reading through the posts in this thread but perhaps that's because I misread the title as:
"Today I shall be Manly..."
I thought Doc was going to give away some personal information!

Finding my way round this new land......

Well - here we are again. I feel as if I have just got back to the surface after being underwater for a day. I spent half a day trying to log on until I realised I had to re- register.
I must say I wasn't at all impressed, and could not see any benefit in the changes, and considered retirement. However I persisted, and have some idea now.
I still can't use my previous avatar (the bowl of cherries) as it seems to be too big a file to be acceptable. I don't like any of the thousands of alternatives available.
I find now that opening the site - clicking on Board Index - then Regular members area - brings me to what I want. Good work Stanley getting some familiar threads going again, and good to see some of the recidivists creeping back. I think we'll survive.

One point - I've found that a google search for something that was in the old version still finds it but you are unable to access it . For instance try "Lancashire textile project" which was amongst the original reasons for the site's existence. I can't see it getting so many views now - unless it is re-posted.

Hi Tripps

Welcome back,

The site only went live yesterday so Google and the other search engines haven't had chance to re-index this new site, however looking at the search engine bots activity today they have certainly been busy, in time all the search engines will have their index's in alignment with the new site structure.

I've sorted out your old Avatar for you and put it on your profile.

All the best

David, Thanks for that. It seemed to me that one way to make the new platform more familiar would be to post as many of the old topics as seemed sensible. As for the new version, let's not forget that the old platform was obsolete, expensive and staggering under the load. Doc's biggest problem was to transfer the old archived information in the new format, he has spent many weary hours on that quest which is why we finished up with this one. I think he's done a wonderful job because once the search engine Bots get their work done the old archive will be as accessible as it was before.
Today I shall be spending more time on the site than usual to get familiar with it.
Oh, and thanks Doc for straightening the avatars up, it has been noted!

I think I need a visit to the optician’s.

Several times I’ve read the heading to this topic as “Today I shall be Mandy...”

I find it quite strange that the 'last replied to' topic doesn't come to the top of the list of current topics on the home page, it's strange because that is how I used to keep track of which topics I had looked at, the times of replying are all mixed up.
I know I'm in my own little world, but it's OK... they know me here. :)

Doc, nice to see you are managing to retain a sense of humour in the face of all us clamouring bairns! One thing I need an explanation of is the "thanks" page, you have been thanked many time over but your "thanks indicator" says 0...not sure what it's all about!?

The thanks feature which appears on all postings next to the "Quote Button" as a thumbs up symbol, allows one user to thank another user for that posting.

The Thanks List on the top menu keeps a tally of who thanked who, and who received the thanks, if you get my drift.

It's a nice feature, but it is fairly irrelevant in the big scheme of things.
