I shall be back in the shed after delivering three articles to the Editor yesterday. I'm five weeks in front of the game now.

Today we went walking up in the mountains in the Lakes. The mist descended unexpectedly. A 4 hour walk became over 7 and 8 miles became about 11. The paths disappeared and reappeared in odd places. We teamed up with some more walkers and between us with our map and our compass we eventually got to Stickle Tarn after over 4 hours from Elterwater. Slippery stones made our descent take nearly 2 hours. After a beer at the pub at the bottom we just about managed our three mile walk back down the valley. Here are my stars for the day. I had to laugh.

Sounds like a bit of an adventure Sue, glad you are all OK.

Today I shall mainly be driving to Stratford. It's Ruby's first communion tomorrow so a Warwickshire gathering. Sally has made her communion dress which we are taking down with us today, (last measurements and practice dress fitting 10 days ago). We are taking our other granddaughter Isla with us so are booked in at the Premier Inn Meet up for a meal around tea time for a catch up.

Look on the map for Whatcote Ian, out towards Banbury. That's where I spent my year with Lionel Gleed, 53/54. Lovely memories!

A quiet morning, having a pedicure at home. French this afternoon and art this evening,

Bob is going to Claire's to house sit for the dishwasher repair man to call. Unfortunately Claire and Adam have to take their cat to the vets for her last journey. She is 17 and has thyroid and kidney problems and is very poorly indeed. Claire is devastated as she got the cat when she bought her first house with husband number 1. She has had a cat since she was 8 and is going to find this very hard. Plus they have had to explain it to Erin.

Cleaning up after having a new bedroom window fitted with a small opener so it can be left open at night, our old one had large full length openers.

The usual daily grind, punctuated by lengthy delays to my routine every time I walk past the jigsaw puzzle which is in progress at one end of the dining table. It sucks me in every time I look at it. I've been losing time for days now...

Sounds like a good plan Sue. You need a bit of competition.
I shall be doing exciting work in the shed. I am ready to start building the engine prior to the last job, making the eccentric and the valve motion. Always an exciting time when things start to come together! It struck me that this is a good way of keeping young, you never give a thought to age and death when you are doing stuff like this.....

In the shed building Alex's engine up. We are seeing progress now! But first the usual Friday shopping and reading the BET to see what's going on. I file all my articles as they are printed and always enjoy reading them even though they are mine!

Our preference for cooking is to have an electric oven and a gas hob. Even here, with no town gas supply, we use a propane hob; but in the house we are trying to buy (which has town gas) there is a recently new fitted kitchen and it has an electric oven and induction hob. We'll give the induction hob a try but it means buying new pans!

Not a fan of induction hobs, I have used them in various self catering holiday lets. Cant get used to the regulation, or lack of it! No naked flame so probably better for fire risk in a letting situation. A set of decent pans is not cheap and a gas hob is not expensive so, if you have the supply.... :extrawink:

We have an induction hob Tiz, and it can be very annoying when you try a favourite pan and it doesn't work! Luckily our cast iron pans are Ok and solid stainless steel ones, but I keep being fooled by an old favourite which has a layer of copper in its base. Apart from that it's great, very controllable it keeps an even temperature and goes on or off instantly.

I don't think I'd recognise an induction hob if I saw one! Mine is a flat ceramic one but with two old fashioned elements at the back and two Infra-red(?) at the front...

You just need to put a flat disc of iron under any pan. Stanley has the technology to make you one! I've seen them demonstrated on markets using polythene and glass bowls to heat things in. Next time I see one I'll inquire more closely.

That's good news Sue!
Grand daughter Yiota visits on Sunday. It would be nice and perhaps possible that Alex's engine could be running by then but I am not pushing it.
