( I have automatic button sewing! Haven't tried it yet mind you.)
I do too. Mine too has a huge number of stitches ( I can’t find tge number in the manual) and I can even set it to sew horizontally...so the book says. No doubt you can do mirror image and enlargement too etc

Time for some research.......

I see the manual says over 400 stitches and 136 built in embroidery designs but I don’t know if that is included in the 400
I find I don't use a lot of the fancy stitches but I do use the many feet that came with the machine. I bought a ruffler foot to make the skirts for my daughter. It makes 1/4 inch pleats and you vary the fullness of the finished product by increasing or decreasing the number of stitches in between each one. I made many, many practice pieces before I was brave enough to make a 'real' one. (By the third skirt I was happy with the pleats and the invisible zip!)

I recognise that machine Wendy, one of the most perfectly designed and best made machines I have ever seen from an engineer's point of view.
Maz. I recognise that problem. Consider hanging it upside down on a rope and shaking it about, that reverses gravity and it may decide to drop out or at least shift to where you can get at it. If the part is ferrous one of the small magnets on a telescopic arm can be very useful.

I shall be working on the almost completed engine....

I agree Liz. I have not used many of the built in stitches or the embroidery designs but they are there when I need them. I have used a number of both however on different projects.
Like you I have used the feet and bought more to make almost a complete set. I know its possible to sew without all the different feet but it often makes life easier with one. My latest acquisition is a felling foot ready for making a denim skirt copied from one I have.

Today is sewing day as Bob spends a few hours at the park model engineers club. They are doing winter maintenance on the train track. He gets back earlier this time of year with it being dark by 4.40 ish.

I spend many hours just practicing with all the feet patterns etc and keep the samples and notes in a book. I also have a section for the settings of my overlocker and coverstitch machines for different fabrics. Some of these modern stretch fabrics are so easy to sew ONCE you have the settings right. Its quicker to look and see what you used for something similar. My favourite fabric is cotton but not many clothes styles these days suit the rigidity of cotton

Woke up several times in the night with pain in my old fracture site ( upper left shoulder/humerus). Finally gave in at 3am and took Paracetamol, which did very little. Obviously using the sewing machine has awakened the old injury. I sewed for about 3 hours today but then packed it in, hoping to rest the shoulder. I think I will need further Paracetamol to settle tonight. I am really feeling it, but will hang on until bedtime.
Another pelmet up today, and all the basic sewing done on the remaining 5. Just have to do the piping on them. Maybe tomorrow. No rush.
Funny how old injuries let you know who is boss.

I know what you mean Marilyn. After a days sewing my back plays up. Sometimes the next day I can’t stand straight. Thankgoodness for pilates and yoga exercises that I can do at home to release it

A wet walk up Weets for us this morning. We went widdershins, up Folly Lane over the top and back down Lister Well Lane. It was a good trial for my rather expensive but very effective Rohan Dry Roamer walking trousers! They are waterproof, windproof and wonderful, and if anyone checks on the price mine were bought in a sale!

That's a good word - I somehow connected it to Hetty Wainthrop and then found this Widdershins Great memory for rubbish - what day is it again?

As usual Wiki tells you all - Widdershins

Two more pelmets finished today and hubby is about to put them up. Three to go but I have downed tools for the day because I don't want to overdo it.
I am not as keen on the fabric for upstairs as I am in the lounge. ( hubby picked upstairs fabric. I think it is a bit safe and boring, but will wait until they are all up and judge the end result).
I hate "safe and boring". I like a bit of oooomph.

As for widdershins...here in Oz you are either going the usual route, or "arse about" if you are doing the same route tuther way round. :biggrin2:

Swimming this morning and hairdressers this afternoon. Thats it for today. I may plant some potatoes that have started to sprout, I doubt they will come to much . The garden pond is looking very sad but no evidence of the source of the leak yet

Maz. I recognise 'arse about'!
Sue, the spuds will have got a good watering in during the night. Bob will find the problem eventually but I'll admit it must be a sad sight....
I shall be boring my flywheel for a bush, I'm putting right a silly mistake I made.... Still, it keeps me off the street corners! Quietly away, no rush and I shall get there in the end!

Later.... A good start to the day! I have mopped the Vinyl in the kitchen and used the same water and the mop to clean the outside of the kitchen and workshop windows. In addition I have sorted my meals for the day, Put the mutton from the pressure cooker into the fridge in a bowl and transferred the veggies to the newly cleaned slow cooker. The pressure cooker is washed and back into the cupboard. Just to round things off I am cooking Jack's sausages for the next week. A morning of honest endeavour so far!
Onward and upwards!

Completed pelmets 6 and 7 ( of 8 today). The last one needed to be cut down narrower, as it is above double doors to our exterior top deck. Doors open inwards and would hit the pelmet. So we had a management meeting...should we raise that one pelmet higher or cut it down so they all sit in a visual line. Decided to cut it down. ( after much ado on and off stools and standing back for a good look). So No 8 will be completed tomorrow.
I do love the staple gun! It has been warm the past few days, so I am wearing shorts and have carpet burn on the knees now due to covering the pelmets.
Shoulder still sore and I am doing my best to ignore it but may need Paracetamol again tonight to settle.
Looking forward to doing a good Hoover through tomorrow. I feel we are drowning in fluff and threads.

I have never stooped to such a level, Wendy. :laugh5:
I think it just hurts more because I have stopped moving for the day. So the arm movement is doing some good ( half a glass to go and then I shall seize up completely).
I tried to get out of bed last night about 3 am and could not raise myself off the pillow. Had to log roll out of bed to go to the loo!

Maz, I have never had a recurrence of my old shoulder injury from a bad road accident since I did away with my pillow..... Worth giving it a try?
Normal day, 90 minutes in shed, all is going well in there.

I wrote quite a long piece yesterday but it looks like I forgot to press SUBMIT. Don’t you just hate it when that happens!

So the potatoes went in yesterday, and not Monday having been too busy on Monday. Yesterday was the usual round of yoga, hospice shop and pilates. Today I have an appointment at the GP for a check up on my new asthma medication , which seems much better than the last lot. As the appointment is 9.05 pm we have decided to walk the two miles there as it will take less time than sitting in the early morning traffic queues. We shall then walk back by a more scenic route thus completing our weekly 4-5 miles. The surgery didn’t used to be so far away, but some time in the mid 80s a medical centre was built. This put us on the most outer edge of the area covered. We decided not to change surgeries as we like who we are with.

This afternoon I have a sewing lesson with Maxine. We shall be doing the fitting of the jacket toile as well as altering another pattern I have drafted. Its all go. Pilates this evening .

I am pleased to report that my weight loss over the summer has been maintained and like Stanley feel pretty fit at the moment. So whilst at the surgery I shall arrange my repeat blood test, which hopefully will show I am not pre diabetic. After considerable research on the matter I have definitely decided they were ‘jumping the gun’ on that one as any diagnosis should have been based on a a starvation blood test and not after a full lunch not 45 mintes before!

Well must finish this cup of tea and have a shower and breakfast if we are to make the appointment. We know a short cut across to the surgery which will keep us off the main road and cut about 15 minutes off the walk.
